+TheMissing8 When my Sis & I were litle, my folks would take us to The Rocky Mt. Nat. Park" about this time of year, & Daddie would say, "We're in the MOUNTAINS kids!" and we'd go to Horseshoe Park to listen to them bugle! .... Happiest days of m life!!
Janice Kucera I'm jealous of you guys that grew up in the western country side. I grew up in New Jersey about 25 miles outside of NYC and, although, I had great times in upstate New York, I have always wanted to travel to Alaska, Washington, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, among others.
I think he's rubbing his antlers on it, they do that to get off the velvet before rutting season, I'd assume some keep doing it just out of habit or because it feels good.
Do you understand how much hunters contribute in this county towards the conservation and preservation of our flora and fauna? More than all other types of conservation combined. I love to see, listen, watch, photograph, hunt, and eat elk. And yes they are beautiful creatures.
These kinds of sounds are what keep me up at night... Effing elk. They live in my backyard, and yeah, after a few weeks of sleepless nights, fall starts to seem like the worst season...
I don't know what it is, but their is something that I love about elks that make them so amazing. They are gorgeous giants of North America's wilderness and I love it.
So I just found out from a NatGeo video about a few minutes ago that the elk are actually producing two sounds: there's the high pitched whistle and there's also the VERY low grunt. You can actually hear the latter much closer to the end of their call. Took me a few tries but it actually sounds really cool!
Probably the best moments in a hunters life is when they succeed in calling in a bull or cow using elk calls. I know the times I have are the best hunting memories.
That's the noise Chance heard on Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. Shadow thought it was a moose, but it was actually an elk that Shadow, Chance, and Sassy heard out in the distance from where they were sleeping at night in the forest.
Very awesome to hear. I neevr knew they had that many sounds. The only ones I've been lucky to see, not counting Zoos 10 years ago, stopped going there, was at an Elk farm. They were tagged so I assume they were breeding them for reintroduction into the norther parts of Ontario
I ran across a herd of 24 elk in Jarbidge Wilderness (NV), and was amazed at how "undignified" the alpha bull's pig squeals were. Also, he issued a challenge bark to me.
Elk do live in North American, namely the US and Canada. The Shawnee called them Wapiti, which means "white deer", or as some people claim, "white butt".
one of the defining moments of my life was last winter when i saw two of these majestic creatures tromping through the woods, when i first heard them, my first thought was WTF!? is someone driving their car around out here? Unfortunately i could not get close enough to get off a shot with my bow, as they were peeking at me through the trees, but still an unforgettable experience
The cow goes moo, the dog goes bark, the elk goes *EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
You can see the vapor puff coming out at the end of a yell... Which means they're actually making those sounds inhaling?? Or maybe the yell itself is just too fast of an exhale for vapor to form..
Friday tracked an elk for 5 hours at 50 yard at base of big mountain he gave me short deep chortle and grunt as to say I know you been tracking me, its been fun but I gota go
they're so majestic, and then just.... EEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKK
Summernyx that's the majestic part
The elk lifted his antlers and let out a rebel cry:
"HmeEeEeEeEEEEr!!!"
One of the coolest noises on this planet.
TheMissing8 IF you know what it is. Not so cool when your settling in for camp after a long day and have never heard one before!
Completely agree. Elk bugles are my favorite animal call.
Tom's Videos Haha, I could see that being a little disconcerting.

I think he's rubbing his antlers on it, they do that to get off the velvet before rutting season, I'd assume some keep doing it just out of habit or because it feels good.
I absolutely LOVE their calls. And prefer them alive. Beautiful creatures.

Don’t hurt me I love elk alive too
They’re also beautiful on a fork too
Elk noises should seriously be used in monster and horror movies. They've seriously got the third most intimidating screeches I've ever heard.
Do you copy?
It's the funniest noise to come out of something so big 😂
Omg why 1:56 😂🤣🤣🤣
Agree....seems like it would be lower pitch right??
Why did I read that JUST in time
These kinds of sounds are what keep me up at night... Effing elk. They live in my backyard, and yeah, after a few weeks of sleepless nights, fall starts to seem like the worst season...

The whistle being produced by specialized molars in the back of their mouths we like to call 'ivories'.

Probably the best moments in a hunters life is when they succeed in calling in a bull or cow using elk calls. I know the times I have are the best hunting memories.

Elk are so majestic
I love this sound. This time of year I sleep with the windows open. I can hear them calling and the sounds of their antlers when they fight.

That bull is checking to see if that cow is ready....If you get my meaning of ready!
That's the noise Chance heard on Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. Shadow thought it was a moose, but it was actually an elk that Shadow, Chance, and Sassy heard out in the distance from where they were sleeping at night in the forest.

Elrey the elk and Montana the elk make that sound
You can see the vapor puff coming out at the end of a yell... Which means they're actually making those sounds inhaling?? Or maybe the yell itself is just too fast of an exhale for vapor to form..
