Hey, as someone that comes from keeping reptiles and am super familiar with UVB bulbs, I just want to point out that UV rays emitted from these bulbs only travel so far and UV levels drop quite significantly after about 15”. I am not sure how far away your lights are from the water but you also have to consider the water depth as well. If you’re curious about UV levels from these lights, you can look up videos involving people testing UV levels from lights using something called a “solar meter”. You’ll notice with these UV lights that after about 15-20” the UV levels are pretty much 0.

Yeah I know quite a bit about the wave lengths in terms of PAR etc when looking at planted tanks and reefs thebdrop oncrease in water. Can't confess to be an expert by any means but was a consideration when I mounted it, it's about 4 inches from the waters surface so will get exposure when swimming in the upper part hopefully🤞. Shall take a look at the stuff you suggested see what I can use 😊 have a wicked Christmas and new year

Me personally would be disappointed if a nice Shiro got secondary Beni. Shows the fine line that can push secondary Beni on. On the plus side, Ochiba looks amazing, really bright and from what I could see ,cleaner than before. Interesting results so far. Great project and happy Christmas to you and yours.

100% if it stays like that it's not gonna be much if anything , I think it'll disappear long term. Unless of course It goes full red, be a nice showa either way I'd be happy. But no I don't want it staying where it is. But very useful to see what the colour work can do. Cheers same to you 😊

@@OrchardKoi unfortunately to the best of my knowledge, once secondary Beni rises,it's rare it goes and will never develop as it would for true Beni. Had a Shiro that this happened and ended up giving it away. Will always have that orange appearance and was most likely always present due to the bloodline they are bred from. Same happens to Kohaku when they get secondary Beni,it never develops as with the original colour. Shame,as it was a super example. Up side, the Ochiba it's looking like a real keeper and has developed well and looks a much cleaner and bright fish than previously. Trials of keeping koi I guess, would have the same interest without all the little things. Keep up the experimentation and you will hit gold🤞
