It's funny because no one really talked about HI3 that much either until Genshin came out. Now the same thing is happening to PGR due to Wuthering Waves. PGR was as niche as HI3. Both solid games in their own sphere.
Ironically I first heard about HI3 from the sponsored segment of a Game Theory video, and this was before Genshin too. I wasn't used to gacha games at the time so I dropped it after the first chapter. Then I literally never heard anything about that game since then until after Genshin came out.

It's so nice to go in game and people in world chat are actually talking about the game instead of genshin. Also as their favourite meme goes "they could never" hi3rd players are eating good getting 5* skins for free with ingame currency while star rail and genshin could never imagine letting players earn skins for 5* characters lol.
I heard about HI3 because of the in-game cutscenes they used in ads, although I didn't actually play it until GI came out. More specifically, I started playing during the crossover event, and I still play it albeit very casually. The story is leagues above that of GI.
Genshin not only changed modern gacha games, it also changed how people view mobile games. It was the first AAA mobile game after all. Genshin was THAT insane at launch. It's a shame to see it in the state it is in right now.

Story: Without a good story I wouldn't play any game for long. I mean... what's the point? Gacha games tend to be so easy that progress is mainly dependent on play time. Gacha games aren't like Elden Ring or Monster Hunter where skills actually matter. Without a good story and good lore your typical gacha game would just be bland and uninteresting. What held me in Genshin wasn't the open world or the hot waifus, it was Lumine's search for her brother and the continuously unravelling mystery surrounding Teyvat. Further, I kind of feel that a good story is an indicator that the developers are putting some effort into their product. Nowadays it is so easy to setup a small game based on the Unreal Engine and a gaming framework. Add a few mini-levels, a few monsters, a few characters and voila, the new gacha game is ready. It's a cash grab, that's all. If there are hundreds of hours of story though? Now we are talking. The better and longer the story, the more am I willing to actually spend on the game.

I find Reverse 1999 better overall with a good story, fun combat, and nice English voice acting. The only issue I have is not enough endgams besides Limbo, basically HSR's Memory of Chaos, but that will change in Version 1.4 once Raids arrives!
I actually play Hsr, genshin & reverse 1999. I can affirm that Reverse 1999 is slept on. Even if you aren't a fan of that combat, there is actual story within the main plot & events. Characters talk within their own native languages, have their own personal lore & more.
Honestly they need console versions to reach a bigger audience . I understand each of those studio focusing on select key platform first to create the game , but this is a make or break next step

Genshin has really set the bar for how we perceive gacha games that looks like a triple A game which can be played on mobile. Personally, I would prefer to play it on my pc because it just looks like a pc/console game to me and feels better to play it there. But since launch, Genshin has been doing the bare minimum to the point where it’s behind other gacha games. Honkai star rail which is also made by mihoyo is already ahead of Genshin and it hasn’t been their 1st anniversary yet.
Its frustrating to think that a lot of players could’ve stayed in the game had they just delivered things properly. It feels insulting that they know they can do better but just has no reason to so they wont do it

Reverse:1999 is a good game . Global just got hamstrung from the fact that its EN Localization was done by native Chinese speakers, and it released in CN 4 with a 4 version lead. Staggered releases for different regions kills incentive for content creators making the game lose out on a lot of organic marketing. I am worried for Girls:Frontline 2
Honestly as someone who started playing HSR, when it came out on ps5. I've seen the silverwolf lightcone, like 1 time in a guide and that's it Personally as long as the light cone is good but not essential to playing a character at there best then it's okay but super annoying. Like the silverwolf lightcone and the HuoHuo lightcone that we got in patch 1.5, it will hurt in the future for any new players that don't have them. Like me with the silverwolf lightcone, like without running the event again or something a way they could implement it is to put it in the priceless jewels shop so people could grind to get it but not like too soon. Like maybe 2 months after the event with the lightcone has gone it gets put in priceless jewels. As I think it works, without them having to run the event again, which means they can make new characters, new lightcones, and stuff as it just gives them more time to work on future content. I don't know if it's a good idea development wise/money making wise. However, it's a good solution, I believe, since tectone said it before about playtime being shown to investors for more investment and by adding them into priceless jewels it gives us players incentive to play that endgame content to get that lightcone. So that way no one loses out on getting it However it not detramental to the company since more playtime on out end equals more investor money. Not sure if it's good, bad or anything in-between it's just an idea.

They censored it in a similar way to monas. They even nerfed the chest. Thats the reason these 2 skins came out

I know I can spend five dollars a month on a welkin, and I know I'm willing to spend the same amount to support a non-gacha online game that I play as often. I know how I respond emotionally to succeeding and failing to pull something and how unsettled my life needs to be before my judgement there might be compromised. But I don't know how most people react in a situation where gambling is a thing.

(until you get time gated to level shét) Then there is fgo the game you can't buy currency or materials only waifus (Only chads with lots of money exists and for me best waifus) Then there is pgr the easiest in my opinion game to daily farm (retired people exist here that escaped from all other gacha like me 🙃)

For some reason I really want genshin to make coop more fun, like why can't we still do coop mainstory quests. It would be such a great way of bringing in new players and give veterans the option to start an alt with someone or just redo the story. And while I'm talking about genshin why not add more coop game modes for like abyss or even an coop only abbys. Like I'm done most of the main story in genshin and grinding for characters is fun for the first week and then it gets boring. So I've started doing coop dungeons and it's fun seeing how having more players interact. Maybe even make a rouge like dungeon where you get to try out new characters and new weapons and try to form a good team from random spawns and see how far you could get. I feel like that would keep player retention through the roof.

Yes, but imo the open-world puzzle part is rather getting boring. It's too large, I don't have time to keep getting all those resources etc. Make it smaller, focus more on combat and characters.
Genshin success showed another way to promote, play and enjoy gacha games without getting scammed. The 50/50 model is way better than the usual japanese model of 1% chances of getting a SSR character or rolling more than 200/300 times.
Dude reverse 1999 was all over my youtube. Especially at launch I had like 6 or 7 gacha creators I'm subbed to streaming reverse 1999 and even now there are people who stream each update on UA-cam. Definitely not hoyoverse levels of success but I'd say it did a little well for itself

Pokemon has always been open world and has always had instance combat. Even today. The only Pokemon games that don't have instance combat are the special ones that make a point of having different Gameplay than the main series games lol
Here is a suggestion for a Gotcha game that would be more beneficial for free to play players. For example, you can roll for the weapon, but It will only have 3 stats. While You can also get the weapon in the game, which has to be found. And that weapon will have four stats on it.
I'm just gonna say Kuro Games most likely at first didn't have any plan to release PGR outside of China and Japan. Granted I'm not gonna say I know everything that going on but base from my experience. PGR was mostly begged by NA Player for an NA release. So Kuro Games granted that wish. I been knew of PGR existed long before Global release by youtuber advertised. I Love Hack and Slash, High action type of game. I patiently waited for Kuro to release NA PGR for a long time. So granted I'll say yes mostly the player advertised Kuro game for them it's a good thing. Because Kuro Games most likely just started their company brand and didn't have much money to go by. Seeing how long Wuthering Wave taking to release I'm betting they still don't have that much money to by. So I'll be happy for Kuro Games if Wuthering Wave was such a huge success for them. I hope they continue to be passionate to their new game. Kuro Games will have my support until they decided to become too greedy.

The devs see the community fuming from L + Dr Ratio and their response is giving players a whopping THREE extra pulls during the biggest annual celebration Genshin has (even bigger than anniversaries) with said 3 pulls being a thank you for players put 3 whole years into the game every day …. 3 pulls when you need 180 pulls worst case to get a featured 5 star. Genshin is the prototype, the first of its kind. It basically paved the way for the future of gacha gaming, and as much as I dislike Hoyo, gotta give credit where it is due and salute to them on initiating the evolution of gacha gaming. But just like in real life, being the first doesn't equate to being the best forever. Specially looking how complete monoply of the genre and being the poster child of gacha gaming for the past 3 years has affected Hoyo on how they treat their players(Genshin to be specific).
Gameplay, Story, Character Design. Excel in any 2 out of the 3 and you can secure a player base in the gacha scene. For many games that is good enough. Hold up, lemme cook. Gameplay + Story: Honkai Impact 3rd (Collecting 11 Bronya reskins tho, not peak design) Story + Character Design: Genshin Impact (Hyperbloom is hyper bad. Honkai Impact was a full 3d real-time combat game... on mobile. That's the game that broke the mold. Genshin was just the one that made it to the global mainstream and was actually able to influence others because suddenly there was a gacha game that had influence and notoriety.
The difference is genshin is the first that has a fully developed aaa quality open world that has never been seen before in a free mobile game .
Story: Without a good story I wouldn't play any game for long. I mean... what's the point? Gacha games tend to be so easy that progress is mainly dependent on play time. Gacha games aren't like Elden Ring or Monster Hunter where skills actually matter. Without a good story and good lore your typical gacha game would just be bland and uninteresting. What held me in Genshin wasn't the open world or the hot waifus, it was Lumine's search for her brother and the continuously unravelling mystery surrounding Teyvat.
Further, I kind of feel that a good story is an indicator that the developers are putting some effort into their product. Nowadays it is so easy to setup a small game based on the Unreal Engine and a gaming framework. Add a few mini-levels, a few monsters, a few characters and voila, the new gacha game is ready. It's a cash grab, that's all. If there are hundreds of hours of story though? Now we are talking. The better and longer the story, the more am I willing to actually spend on the game.
No king rules forever should be an example from Blizzard.
One day Genshin will face the same situation.

I find Reverse 1999 better overall with a good story, fun combat, and nice English voice acting. The only issue I have is not enough endgams besides Limbo, basically HSR's Memory of Chaos, but that will change in Version 1.4 once Raids arrives!
I actually play Hsr, genshin & reverse 1999. I can affirm that Reverse 1999 is slept on. Even if you aren't a fan of that combat, there is actual story within the main plot & events. Characters talk within their own native languages, have their own personal lore & more.
And dont forget about the mechanics in combat and the art , game is absolutely cinematic to watch . Sad its not as popular as it should be
Honestly they need console versions to reach a bigger audience . I understand each of those studio focusing on select key platform first to create the game , but this is a make or break next step

R: 99 gave Chinese players a free 6 star of their choosing, 7 months after release, and global players on the same date, 2 months after release.
Genshin has really set the bar for how we perceive gacha games that looks like a triple A game which can be played on mobile. Personally, I would prefer to play it on my pc because it just looks like a pc/console game to me and feels better to play it there. But since launch, Genshin has been doing the bare minimum to the point where it’s behind other gacha games. Honkai star rail which is also made by mihoyo is already ahead of Genshin and it hasn’t been their 1st anniversary yet.
Its frustrating to think that a lot of players could’ve stayed in the game had they just delivered things properly. It feels insulting that they know they can do better but just has no reason to so they wont do it
Now it wouldn't be wrong to say that the reason why there are so many open world anime games out there is all thanks to the huge success of genshin and that hasn't changed to this day.

Reverse:1999 is a good game . Global just got hamstrung from the fact that its EN Localization was done by native Chinese speakers, and it released in CN 4 with a 4 version lead. Staggered releases for different regions kills incentive for content creators making the game lose out on a lot of organic marketing. I am worried for Girls:Frontline 2

Personally as long as the light cone is good but not essential to playing a character at there best then it's okay but super annoying.
Like the silverwolf lightcone and the HuoHuo lightcone that we got in patch 1.5, it will hurt in the future for any new players that don't have them.
Like me with the silverwolf lightcone, like without running the event again or something a way they could implement it is to put it in the priceless jewels shop so people could grind to get it but not like too soon.
Like maybe 2 months after the event with the lightcone has gone it gets put in priceless jewels.
As I think it works, without them having to run the event again, which means they can make new characters, new lightcones, and stuff as it just gives them more time to work on future content.
I don't know if it's a good idea development wise/money making wise.
However, it's a good solution, I believe, since tectone said it before about playtime being shown to investors for more investment and by adding them into priceless jewels it gives us players incentive to play that endgame content to get that lightcone.
So that way no one loses out on getting it However it not detramental to the company since more playtime on out end equals more investor money.
Not sure if it's good, bad or anything in-between it's just an idea.

It did but it leads players to a dangerous self-justification trap like, "I feel okay to spend on Genshin because it isn't like other gachas games". In the end, they still spent on gacha. They spent thousands on minimal content lol. Once they give themselves self-justification to spend, they have fallen into the gacha trap.
Fair enough. That's why I don't just recommend it to people. I know I can spend five dollars a month on a welkin, and I know I'm willing to spend the same amount to support a non-gacha online game that I play as often. I know how I respond emotionally to succeeding and failing to pull something and how unsettled my life needs to be before my judgement there might be compromised. But I don't know how most people react in a situation where gambling is a thing.

genshin is like the easy to entry gacha game, cause it's a chill game. (until you get time gated to level shét) Then there is fgo the game you can't buy currency or materials only waifus (Only chads with lots of money exists and for me best waifus) Then there is pgr the easiest in my opinion game to daily farm (retired people exist here that escaped from all other gacha like me 🙃)

For some reason I really want genshin to make coop more fun, like why can't we still do coop mainstory quests. It would be such a great way of bringing in new players and give veterans the option to start an alt with someone or just redo the story. And while I'm talking about genshin why not add more coop game modes for like abyss or even an coop only abbys.
Like I'm done most of the main story in genshin and grinding for characters is fun for the first week and then it gets boring. So I've started doing coop dungeons and it's fun seeing how having more players interact. Maybe even make a rouge like dungeon where you get to try out new characters and new weapons and try to form a good team from random spawns and see how far you could get. I feel like that would keep player retention through the roof.

ZZZ lost so much hype when they censored the characters and dialogue tbh. They just gave themselves the stigma that they will restrict themselves in everything they do. We won't have the full experience that the real developera actually want us to have. Some higher up rando corpo 100% had a hand to the censorship and won't ever take the heat for it. They can't talk back to thier boss of course, so now it is what it is. And it fucking sucks.

Here is a suggestion for a Gotcha game that would be more beneficial for free to play players. For example, you can roll for the weapon, but It will only have 3 stats. While You can also get the weapon in the game, which has to be found. And that weapon will have four stats on it.
I'm just gonna say Kuro Games most likely at first didn't have any plan to release PGR outside of China and Japan. Granted I'm not gonna say I know everything that going on but base from my experience.
PGR was mostly begged by NA Player for an NA release. So Kuro Games granted that wish. I been knew of PGR existed long before Global release by youtuber advertised. I Love Hack and Slash, High action type of game. I patiently waited for Kuro to release NA PGR for a long time. So granted I'll say yes mostly the player advertised Kuro game for them it's a good thing. Because Kuro Games most likely just started their company brand and didn't have much money to go by.
Seeing how long Wuthering Wave taking to release I'm betting they still don't have that much money to by. So I'll be happy for Kuro Games if Wuthering Wave was such a huge success for them. I hope they continue to be passionate to their new game. Kuro Games will have my support until they decided to become too greedy.

A game like Genshin Impact on the base can never be bad. It's because of the developers and their community that is totally delusional and truly don't understand what's the best for the game.
The devs see the community fuming from L + Dr Ratio and their response is giving players a whopping THREE extra pulls during the biggest annual celebration Genshin has (even bigger than anniversaries) with said 3 pulls being a thank you for players put 3 whole years into the game every day

Genshin is the prototype, the first of its kind. It basically paved the way for the future of gacha gaming, and as much as I dislike Hoyo, gotta give credit where it is due and salute to them on initiating the evolution of gacha gaming.
But just like in real life, being the first doesn't equate to being the best forever. Specially looking how complete monoply of the genre and being the poster child of gacha gaming for the past 3 years has affected Hoyo on how they treat their players(Genshin to be specific).
Gameplay, Story, Character Design. Excel in any 2 out of the 3 and you can secure a player base in the gacha scene. For many games that is good enough. Hold up, lemme cook.
