Crazy how they just make it work. I've been there recently and there was no problem crossing the street. You just have to know whats going on it seems. People in the states would freak out!
+sebeck 1 I agree. I love how they don't have the entitlement of "MY TURN" like they do in the states. They actually try to avoid hitting each other. Although, the lights here make it less stressful in a different way hehe. Either way works, but changing what you are accustomed to would be freaky!
As someone who has grown up with street lights and rigorous safety laws, this is really interesting. Videos like that are what helped ease my anxiety about learning to drive a few years ago. I was afraid of all the cars, but after seeing things like this I realized that I could trust people to not want to crash just as badly as me :P I know that seems rather obvious, when when it's pounded into you that "people are good because they follow the rules" it's hard to see certain things
I used to drive a deuce and a half downtown Saigon....... Just go with the flow... Always have about a dozen or so bicyclists holding on to the truck to get a free ride... Never ran over anyone though...lol
This is from Lotteria in Tran Hung Đao street. On the left is Bui Vien street starting, on the right is the street that cross the bridge and goes to District 4
+Effect Halo ... On the first venture, we followed a school girl. Then, a man led us. On the third crossing, we had already mastered the skill of crossing a road in Ho Chi Ming City. It is a beautiful and exciting city.
I can see at least two traffic policemen in khaki uniform in the middle of the chaotic street intersections. Are their presence making any difference to the traffic? It's a wonder they're not hit by the vehicles coming all over at the same time.... Also Wondering are they coordinating with each other while 'directing' the traffic???
You should see rush hour traffic...I used to watch the traffic circle from the 2nd floor of a Trung Nguyen coffee shop located on Dien Bien Phu St at edge of District one. The shop is now a Popeye's Chicken joint and across the alley is McDonalds. Vietnam is getting destroyed by the predatory multinationals taking over, squeezing out the mom and pop places. But more money means even more cars.
Every kind of vehicle is on the road users are compromise to each other, bike, scooter, car, bus, lorry, tricycle and people what a messy Hochi Min city! went there and feel so nice.
Thailand, Indonesia, Saigon, many parts in india, some parts in china, Philippines; been to these places & have similar traffic mentally; lack of discipline, lack of respect. Either crossing the streets or taking a taxi you have to hold on to your dear life 'cause it's gonna be havoc time!
For all of you guys who like this video, I think you have to see this work of art on Saigon Traffic, and to see how amazing place Saigon is...LOL ua-cam.com/video/08OpjYn1BlY/v-deo.html

I spent a few days in Saigon and had no problem crossing the road. Saigon is a vibrant and beautiful city.
As said before.
This was Tran Hung Đao and Nguyen Thai Hoc crossing.
Shot from Lotteria restaurant.
Its a work of art! One of those "unspoken" wonders of the modern world.

Viet-Nam today looks a lot better then many American cities like Detroit, Baltimore, Newark, Trenton, etc. etc. today.

I like watching traffic, thanks for uploading such a long video :)
The traffic police must be insane, they must have a short lifespan in that job.
that's insanity, I would leave to the country side and I thought L.A. traffic was bad, it's nothing in comparison.
imagine all motobikes became car!
how cheap is a bike over there its like we buying a pair of shoes over here
