Thanks! I guess it's the simplest, cheapest and most easy to handle rig out there. No metal, just two lumber spars, cheap rope and a tarp. Performance is surprisingly good! Essentially it's what the Marshallese have done for 1000 years!
The wam catamaran can easily carry 1.5 tons. Hulls are 6m long and 1m wide but you can build them any length between 5 and 8m . The mast is as high as the longest pieces of lumber we could find.
Hi, the mk3 has a slightly modified hull shape with a flat transom instead of a canoe stern. This makes the hull more buoyant and increases the cargo capacity. You pretty much nailed it with your dimensions, width is about 12 ft (11ft beams). The mk1 (3 WAM cats have been built so far) is now sailing for almost 3 years on the remote likiep atoll and is doing a good job there. The locals use it for fishing, transportation and sometimes even as ambulance. Just came back from there, a video will follow soon!
The rig is certainly interesting! Thanks for sharing. 😎🐬⚓️🏖🌴☀️🇦🇺

Здравствуйте сэр! Скажите пожалуйста какие габориты имеет корпус, поплавок катамарана? Какая высота треугольной мачты? Какая грузоподъёмность судна? С уважением Павел Сазонов.

Good looking cat, its now wider than when it first launched? What’s the over dimensions? 20ft long x 10ft wide? Sail area around 180 sqf?
