I grew up in Blyth. In fact, my channel salutes two iconic accordionists of the town: my father, Terry Larke, and Peter Cosimini (he, of the legendary Newsham fish and chip shop fame). Peter was a magnificent accordionist as was my father. They had pretty contrasting personalities, but (perhaps because of that) really clicked as friends and musical collaborators.
I don't remember "The Top House" . . . . but I was never that familiar with that part of the town.
It sure was good to hear the seagulls. (And I could almost smell the salt air "through the Internet" :-) )
I mentioned your video to several old friends, several of whom attended Princess Louise Road School. I am sure they will enjoy remembering the old days there.
Thanks for the video. I will check out your other ones soon. I now live overseas so have not been back to Blyth for many years, but I still feel bonded with the town where I spent my formative years, and it was fun to see its backstreets.
    Best wishes ---Mike

@@outandaboutwithrob My father drank at "The Vic" . . . just across the street from where we lived.
We moved to Blyth in the 1960s, when my dad took over as landlord of "The Fox and Hounds" (later became "The Wagon Wheel" and maybe had another name too). Of course it is no longer there, although there still remains a small piece of its (brick) garden wall in the parking lot that's there now. (Just as there is a small relic of "The Marble Arch" in the same vicinity.)
One of my friends said your video brought back a lot of memories, and the he went to school every day through the "cut" at the beginning of your video. Also that he drank at "The Top House" when his previous pub became too loud on the music front.
Good luck with your channel. Thanks again. ---Mike

I’m just wondering if where you were filming used to be a kinder/primary school. I remember the leisure centre, my granddad used to take me swimming when I visited from down south…I must have been about 7 or 8. I watched them build it fifty odd years ago. I think there was an old bridge crossing the road with the occasional mining train. That was many moons ago!

I'm gutted my father in law went to that school. Mr. Peter Ridley. He named his daughter Louise. He is the best man I've ever known.

Hi Rob. I am from The Netherlands and am planning a short visit to Blyth on my way to Scotland. My mother was born in Blyth and my parents married there during WWll. Can I ask you some questions for directions?

@@outandaboutwithrob Thanks, Rob. My car navigation system will undoubtedly take me to the Blyth Marketplace. I only vaguely remember some things about Blyth, so I just want to check locations/places, etc. This was about 60/70 years ago say 1955. Yes, I am that old! Ha, ha, ha.....
As a 4-year-old accompanied by my mother, we went to visit my grandfather. Apparently, he lived on the opposite side of the river so we had to use a ferry which pulled itself across by way of chains. Recently, I saw some old pictures online, and I immediately recognised the ferry. But where did it exactly cross the river? Are there any remnants? I also remember huge brick arches like a bridge crossing the river but I am not sure whether this was actually a bridge. This was quite near to the ferry landing.
My grandfather was a pitman, so are there any remains of coalmines in the neighbourhood? My mother always bragging about the beach, so I definitely want to go and see it.
