      I got a question for ya. From an old short/Instagram post you showed a FSS pulaski sharpening gauge, and I've recently received an old school true temper FSS pulaski head, and that gauge seems to be impossible to find. Anyway you could get the measurements of that for replicas?

    Cody here’s my 2 cents on Dometic. I was doing current product engineering for a big ag equipment company in the cab team, fancy term for warranty reduction projects. Dometic was the supplier for the in cab refrigerators and they were number 2 or 3 on my list of failures per machine. Don’t remember the specifics but they failed a lot. I don’t know if any of them are better than a Dometic but they were really high on the warranty hit list and in the 3 years I was in that role, no matter what we changed those things were always in the top 5 failures for the cabs.

    I have been using a Dometic CFX-40 for 4 years now and love it. You don't even realize you need one until you get one and then you won't want to be without it. I use it camping either in a tent, the back of my truck or pulling my camper. My wife and I will take it on day trips site seeing and take drinks, lunch or for picking up meat and cheese from fruitstands, etc. I have a slide in the back of my Wrangler for it or I strap it in the back seat of my F250 with the seatbelt. I run it off a Bluetti EB70. The Bluetti stays plugged into the cigarette lighter in my truck and stays topped off.

    I put an iceco fridge/freezer in my 4runner with dedicated 100ah lifepo battery. Put 2 x 100 watt solar panels between cross pieces of roof rack. Use bcdc charge controller to allow for charging from solar and alternator. So I have a permanent fridge in truck. I keep 5 of the large blue freezer packs frozen in it. Then I swap back and forth between 2 & 3 blue freezer packs in my yeti cooler daily in my canvas wall tent. In which I keep my food and drinks cold. Anything that needs to be frozen stays in truck freezer. Been living in my 16x20 wall tent for 6 weeks while I build my off grid container home.

    Its best to run the fridge on 12v that way you dont have any conversion losses. Running the AC on those deltas is only about 85% efficient. Run direct DC whenever possible to extend the amount of power you have. Since you have 2 units run DC off of one and AC on the other.

  • @BattleChemist
    @BattleChemist 11 місяців тому +3

    Man, those handles look very sturdy; my Coleman coolers always fail at the handles.
    The -8 degrees F makes sense because you want to deep-freeze frozen food so they aren't right on the edge of thawing if they're exposed to heat for a little bit.

    • @RogueOntheRoad
      @RogueOntheRoad 11 місяців тому

      Most animal products should be held at -10°F to prevent freezer burn.

    • @BattleChemist
      @BattleChemist 11 місяців тому +1

      @@RogueOntheRoad freezer burn is dehydration (through sublimation) of frozen product. If it is exposed to air and frozen, it will freezer burn, regardless of the coldness of the freezer.
      The only way to prevent freezer burn is to seal it away from air... that's why I have year-old ground beef in freezer zip-loc bags that have Zero freezer burn on them. The meat in the same freezer that is in the grocery packaging (Styrofoam tray with cling wrap) will freezer burn within 3 months or so.

    Canvas is a great material though no practical to live within for years ion
    end cody you aren't getting any younger in age cody, you need to consider trucck hauling with a min o0f 3x 40 foot trailers
    if i was going to wasrte money on a car fridge i would consider aythign under 2x 60 liters because you are supporting 4 people on that for a short amount of time long term option would likely 50-60 sea container in a half and half fridge and freezer design
    realistic without options for resupply you are looking at a bare ming of 5-10 years worth of food and something to live in for the next 30-50 years
