Arguably, Bruch's first violin concerto is the finest violin concerto ever written. It surpasses in melodic invention, beauty, sustained emotion and technical perfection the violin concertos written by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Tckaikovsky and Brahms.
" What a piece of work is a man/woman! How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty! In form and moving how express and admirable! In action how like an Angel! "
This concerto came to me late in life (I hadn't heard of it) but I feel sorry for Max Bruch when he said he was sorry he wrote it as he could not sell his subsequent work ! This is the very best in music so the public thought it could not be bettered! I Agree.
according to Wikipedia, Nicola has two strads...the Gariel and the Earl Spencer. Verdict: Smashing performance of a smashing piece by a smashing violinist...
Amen Raymond! Just to put the cat among the pigeons, I'm mesmorized by the performance of Kyung wha Chung at Proms in 2002 with brother conducting L'Orchstre Philarmonique de Radio France. Also on UA-cam :)
Of course she is not a Julia Fischer or Janine Jensen. But she has her unique sounds and tunes. I really love her performance. And she is a beautiful human being.
She plays in a different manner; her posture is 50% bigger than Julia Fischer or Hilary Hahn, her fingers are stronger - there are many other parameters that influence the performance. That is not written in the score... I remember her excellent performance of the Szymanowski violin concerto where a strong arm is needed.
She simply had a bad day. Whatever anybody thinks her "sound" is, this surely wasn't a performance she was proud of. I look at 2:01 and know that any professional (including herself) could do better.
SOUND QUALITY ISSUE HERE. I would have liked to listen to this but it had a quiet tearing ticking sort of noise... I did listen in the end and .. Wow! Had me in tears. I'd love to see a higher quality version of this.
I’d love to know Itzhak Perlman’s opinion of her playing. If he says she’s vary good, she’s definitely very good. This is one of my favourite concertos.
Japanboy, you need to get your ears tested if you think the notes are clear. I recorded this performance from FM BBC Radio 3 onto Betacam SP, and this upload bears no resemblance to the original broadcast. The distortion is so clearly audible on this upload. Too many people are so used to MP3 and UA-cam they have no idea what clear sound is. So many wonderful performances on here have been ruined.
I think a lot of the audio issues are the cause of some of the complaints of her missing notes, intonation, etc. Did she miss a couple of notes? Probably, but then, I've heard Pearlman miss a couple here and there. Unfortunately, UA-cam cannot be as high fidelity as we would prefer, and for those of us who cannot make it to live performances, it is a good introduction to some fantastic music. I try hard to overlook audio issues when I can, and look for other recordings on here when I can't.
Comment from a Chicago Tribune reporter in 2017..... "More than a dozen exemplary female violinists, all with flourishing solo careers around the world, come to mind. Along with such established fiddle eminences as Anne-Sophie Mutter, Kyung-Wha Chung, Rachel Barton Pine and Midori, one could cite Hilary Hahn, Julia Fischer, Janine Jansen, Leila Josefowicz, Lisa Batiashvili, Nicola Benedetti, Vilde Frang, Arabella Steinbacher and Baiba Skride, with others on the way".
Why is almost everything from the LAST night of the proms??? Is the music there better than the first or the middle night?? That said, i VERY much enjoy Hillary's sparkling and forthright interpretation of this wonderful classic.
This music is particularly suit for a lady as the violinist. The whole music is a woman telling her story. The first movement is telling about her personnality and lives. The second movement brings you to her sad memory. In third movement she found hope and confidence.
Sublime in every respect. The most achingly beautiful slow movement that I know.
Arguably, Bruch's first violin concerto is the finest violin concerto ever written. It surpasses in melodic invention, beauty, sustained emotion and technical perfection the violin concertos written by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Tckaikovsky and Brahms.
I think that the Mendelssohn is better.

A stunning performance all round. It certainly gave me goosebumps.
Beautiful.
Love the Bruch concerto!
I have a mad obsession with this piece, and Nicky’s playing so beautiful, expressive and incredible, she is definitely one of my favourite violinists!
violinist is amazing
Beautiful violinist, played beautifully, very fine.
This is one of those times when hearing this beautiful music is not enough, and seeing it played too is much better.
It's just so amazing.
Nicola Benedetti puts her soul into the music. Beautiful experience.
Very beautiful piece of music. Well done 😄
The second movement is sublime!
Que bella música ¡¡ Grandiosa y sublime violinista. Toca como los ángeles. No hay duda.

Exquisite
Such fire and passion, and what a sound. Wonderfull performance. Bravissima!
Seen both Sarah Chang and Nicola play this live, Nicola plays it ok but Sarah is a life time experience you will never forget, enough said.

Amazing piece of Music
Sublime!
Brilliant performance!
Really brilliant ...
Cecilia Jazme Si ... coincido contigo .. este concierto de Bruch me apasiona ...
Why does this always reduce me to tears?
Because you are human and understand suffering in all it's forms? (Me too, by the way.)
Love you
according to Wikipedia, Nicola has two strads...the Gariel and the Earl Spencer. Verdict: Smashing performance of a smashing piece by a smashing violinist...
On a smashing violin
Her tuning is almost perfect!
thank god i'm not someone who knows it all.... there is still some discovery left in these old bones....
Cualquier palabra Seria solo para profanar este Hermoso concierto... Gracias Dios Mio...
Not one comment on Bruch's concerto. Jeez. I think Bruch's concerto is a masterpiece and care very little who plays it.
Amen Raymond! Just to put the cat among the pigeons, I'm mesmorized by the performance of Kyung wha Chung at Proms in 2002 with brother conducting L'Orchstre Philarmonique de Radio France. Also on UA-cam :)
Nicola Bennedetti....wonderful!
So easy to criticize. Mistakes....so what, she is being who she is.
Max Bruch can do no wrong!
Hermosa, estupenda, maravillosa, excelente !
Nicola Benedetti is a leading violinist!!!!
Merveilleuse musique, avec une excellente violoniste virtuose...
Ella posee un talento y expresividad maravillosa !!!!

really like Jiří Bělohlávek so much...such a kind old man and also a brilliant conductor:))
It doesn’t get any better than that.
Qué Bélla Mujer. Qué pasion reflega su cara. Morir soñando escuhando su Violin.
hermoso ,hermosa
Beaux coups d'archet, interprétation fougueuse... ersion très réussie.
Divino!

Robin KIM She's beautiful and she plays fine, but she doesn't have a "unique" sound like great ones. Modern violinists usually sound similar.
Please listen to Heifitz, Perlman, Hahn, ....
Robin KIM g
She simply had a bad day. Whatever anybody thinks her "sound" is, this surely wasn't a performance she was proud of. I look at 2:01 and know that any professional (including herself) could do better.
Maravilhoso!
Loved it but i just wonder if the way she stands hurts her back when she plays....
I. Vorspiel: Allegro Moderato 0:10
II. Adagio 8:20
III. Finale: Allegro Energico 17:07
СПАСИБО,ПРЕКРАСНО!
Bravo ❣️❣️
All the notes are so clear
CE CONCERTO ME FAIT TOUJOURS VIBRER QUELLE BELLE INTERPRETATION
filled with joy :)))
SOUND QUALITY ISSUE HERE. I would have liked to listen to this but it had a quiet tearing ticking sort of noise... I did listen in the end and .. Wow! Had me in tears. I'd love to see a higher quality version of this.
Max Bruch is the Brittany Spears of Classical Music.
很有力量!感動!
muy buena violinista y como es muy joven tendrá tiempo para perfeccionarse.Maravillosa.21 mayo 2016
So glad I don't know sh!t from clay about music so I can simply love this performance without noticing a strand of her hair is slightly out of place..
Shes very good but the orchestra isn't up to her standard.
I’d love to know Itzhak Perlman’s opinion of her playing. If he says she’s vary good, she’s definitely very good. This is one of my favourite concertos.
So why diminish your compliment by mentioning a perceived flaw?
Tudo de bom

It’s Perlman, not Pearlman

At 8.26, a bunch of poxy Xmas adverts invaded this magical performance.. how berluddy dare they.! Shame on them. WF
한국인이지만 진짜 보면 이런거 부럽네요.. 좋아료
Fine.
It is so sad, but I guess life is sad, unless you are born to be young and perpetually rich and happy.
+SmashCorporateGreed hehehe. rich AND happy ? just happy will do :P
Nigel Kennedy version.
Magnifique
Why is almost everything from the LAST night of the proms??? Is the music there better than the first or the middle night?? That said, i VERY much enjoy Hillary's sparkling and forthright interpretation of this wonderful classic.
J. Ross Mayhew Excuse me, who is "Hilary"?
lol
Hilary Hahn I guess:P

Because men never experience those things.
The composer began to hate it because his other music was overlooked to some extent. She is a brilliant violinist love her playing.
She has recorded this with Hrusa, backed with a most beautiful Tchaikovsky!
TWO WORDS:
MUSICAL INTERPRETATION
😉
Certifié intergalactique! Ça a l'air tellement mieux avec Benedetti.
Красивые волосы.
とても、満足しています。あまり、ロマンチックになりすぎず、バランスが良いと思います。
Like Kennedy - almost in the Heifetz league.
It's wonderful. She's wonderful.
Just an opinion - but if you want an even more soul searching Movt 2, try Itzhak Perlman's version
21:37-21:46 😍😍😍
Brovo ! 像神龍一樣神 !
There's hope for the world. If only countries could work together like this.
What's her name. That was an excellent performance!
That's Nicola Benedetti, yes? Don't see her name anywhere, they should put that in, don'tcha think?
Hey, that was a great comment I really liked it.
Thanks.
Talking to yourself, weirdo
