    As someone from Australia who doesn't have these, I cannot see any benefit to using one. With so many things that cannot go in it, why wouldn't you just put the waste straight in the bin? Seems like another thing that can go wrong

      As European living few years in US I can tell you that thing is completely useless. It brakes down, clogs, causes leaking in your kitchen and people waste lots of money on plumbers.

    doesnt make noise find and hit reset switch but if u hear a noise its probably a spoon or something stoping it from moving jamming it up. if its old and rusty and u find nothing in it replace it. if its cloged plug the sink drain fill up the garbage disposal with enough water and plunge it. if its not plugged but not draining fast or at all check the hose coming out of it placing it idk higher up or in some spots helps it flow out the drain. btw sink and garbage disposals share same drain

      @@AroundTheHome1I was looking for like a overview of how to operate it. This is more just what could happen if you use it incorrectly, which is still useful, but doesn’t really correlate to the title

    Just found and subscribed to you channel. I thought I knew a lot about garbage disposals. I do know a lot but you taught me some new things. Thank you. I have a question: Sometimes that side of the sink will not drain or drains really slowly and I have to run the disposal to get it draining. I had figured that it was just clogged with particles, but it seems to happen even when I have not put any scraps in there. Maybe particles build up just in the normal course of rinsing off dishes that are fairly clean already. Or is there another problem that I haven't thought of yet?

      Good question. Here is my best guess as to what is going on. Yes, there are small bits of food that can build up when you don't run it. I don't have a video on this yet, but I need to make one. It also builds up with goo. That's my best description for small food particles, grease, and maybe even a little mold and mildew. Ok, so here's how to fix that. First take a lot of ice. Like cleaning out the ice tray for you ice maker. Shove as much as you can into the disposal, don't go crazy, and turn it on with no water running. Yep, I said no water. Then as the ice breaks down push more down. You are basically turning your garbage disposal into a slushy machine. This should take no more then 30 seconds. Start running some cool to warm water to help break up the ice a little and shove down more ice. Hopefully you will actually see a pillar of shaved ice pushing up out of the disposal. And with that pillar a bit of goo. This will help clean out the disposal. After you are done making slushies, then fill up the sink with bleach water. A lot of bleach in the water. Then let it drain down the disposal to kill off any mold and mildew. Wait ten minutes before you rinse it out. This should really help. Thank you for watching, and please share. Doesn't sound like these things have much utility; apparently everything clogs them.

    I actually came here to find out if you’re supposed to run the water while running the garbage disposal. I remember someone told me that one time and I don’t remember who and I just wanted to confirm that I had been using it the right way.

    Thanks! The part I wanted to see was which side you run the water on when the garbage disposal is running. My mom always told me to run the water on the other side of the sink (not the same side as the disposal) for some reason.

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  3 роки тому +2

      She must have learned it wrong. You absolutely run it on the disposal side while using the disposal. It needs to rinse down. And depending how your sink is plumbed, that could cause a big clog if you ran the water on the other side.

    So it sounds like buying one is a waste of time? If you cant put a lot of stuff down there? Lol I want one but my fiance dont. Should I buy one?

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  2 роки тому +1

      @Peigirl1985 Thanks for your question. If you cook for yourselves then I absolutely recommend having one. Now, if you all always do take out and maybe pre-made salad packs then I don't suppose you would get much use out of it. Personally, I use mine on a daily basis. You just have to be smart on how you use it. I scrape all my plates off into it and I don't know what I would do with un-used soups. Now, that is probably the one thing that I would clean out of the fridge and use the disposal for. My mother-in-law is just crazy with it. I hope that answers your question. Feel free to ask more questions.

    Thanksgiving day, making dinner, husband decides to put potato peels down the sink. I kept telling him not to. You guessed it, clogged. M-I-L was visiting so I didn't raise my voice. We all saw the clog. I was fuming. After dinner, I fixed it. No one puts stuff like that down our drain, especially grease!!!!!
