- About 6 months ago Redstar put out a Limited run of the 1963 in Bronze for the 60th anniversary..it sold out straight away
After much feedback from people wanting to buy the watch, they have released this version in Bronze, with Lume and NOT a limited release

Gosh, this brings back memories. I remember my grandfather owned a Seagull. It was the pride and joy of my hometown, Tianjin.
Its nice and kinda impresive that they listen to the feedbacks and can make a watch that fast. Personaly i already have the "regular" 1963 and im not gonna spend that kind of money on basically the same watch just for the lume and a bronze case.
If I didn't already have a Seagull 1963, I'd definitely consider this! It's a little bulbous because the lugs are shorter and the case is thick, but I think it works well. These Seagulls are always gorgeous and this one just makes it better!
In my opinion this watch is one of the best values in watch industry great job Seagull

At first glance, this one looks like a stunner under your lens. I’ve tried to maintain some specific standards for watches that I buy (minimum water resistance, screw down crown) and I prefer watches that are 12mm thick or less. Chronos tend to be thicker, I know. I want to. I really do… but…
Thank you for another great video. I was hoping to buy one, but I've been holding back for some reason. Thanks to your close-up shots, your thoughts, and the pros and cons of this watch. I decided to pass on this purchase. I'm a spontaneous spender, and sometimes I end up with lots of regret buys. Your video helped me scratch that itch and shine a light on the minor imperfections that stopped me from wasting away my watch fund. Every time I watch your watch reviews it feels like I'm actually holding the watch. I'm your biggest fan!! Cheers
Thats one thing I hope to show people is the positives and negatives of a potential purchase...
I think at the end of the day we all end up with way too many watches and just as many regrets.

Good presentation video of this bronze chronograph. However, one of the most important properties of the mechanical movement is not mentioned. It is a column wheel chronograph and that is absolutely unique in this price range! For other brands, think of 10K and up.

I've been holding off on getting a seagull mostly because I'm not a fan of how polished stainless cases look on my wrist. So I'm probably going to get one of these.😅
I bought the limited edition version. I think this kinda discredits “limited edition” That said I love the watch. It’s one of the few if not only watch that people comment on when I wear it. I do think the strap on this one is nicer looking though. Excellent vid.

The Seagull 63 got be back into watches after a 20 year gap.
Since that purchase I've become a polyaddict - my drug of choice is Sinn.
Im normally not into bronze cases, but i really like rhis one. The vintage style and the bronze suits it. I'm not going to purchase one b3cause thats a lot of money for an St19 that's known to be a crapshoot for reliability, but this is a nice release.

Not bad, but I prefer the classic model and with a vintage acrylic crystal 🙂 It is a shame that the pin buckle is not bronze... This new strap is nice tho.
Great review, Pete. I think releasing this model in bronze is a great idea. One thing that I can’t get past is that extra tall bezel on the sapphire model. It makes the case wear much taller. Unfortunately they haven’t released a bronze version in an acrylic crystal, which has a taller domed crystal and a much lower-profile bezel. That would’ve been a killer combo, aesthetically, but people want their sapphire, even on watches they wear once a month, so what can you do?
That would be nice, acrylic with a bronze case...especially when it ages..wow 👍
I don’t understand what you mean by “having a taller crystal with a smaller profile”. Maybe I’m just misunderstanding, but I don’t understand you mean that the profile would be smaller with an taller crystal.
These are great watches but not without reliability issues. The problems arise with a lot of chronograph use. Although it doesn't feel it, when you reset the chrono hands you're putting a big shock through the movement which takes its toll on other components over time.
Of course this is the case with all mechanical chronographs, but the ST19's are quite fragile and particularly susceptible. If you use it purely as a time keeper with VERY occasional stop watch use, you'll be absolutely fine.
@@MattSeesGrayIf you look at profile shots of the steel versions with acrylic and sapphire crystals, you can see the difference. The height of both is about the same, but because the acrylic has a more pronounced dome, the bezel isn’t as high and bulky. On the sapphire version, the crystal is much less domed, so the bezel is a lot higher to meet the edge of the crystal. Adding such a large bezel to the sapphire version makes the side of the watch appear much thicker than the acrylic version. Compare the photos, and it will be obvious.

I have the 60th anniversary model and love it. I'm usually not a bronze watch type guy.. but it works here. However I think the lume sections on the hands do look a bit odd, although I like the idea of having lume in general. But not enough for me, to buy it 'again'. Great review, als always though!
Applied markers look oddly identical to the ones found on the seiko alpinist

I've always liked the liked the look of these, well in the stainless steel version, but this bronze one does stand out and I like it better than the normal version. Definitely one to think about as I still need a good mechanical chrono. Cheers Peter, another great review and another watch to to add to an ever growing list😂😂😂

I don't know if you plan on keeping this one but it would be nice to see the change in patina after a few months.

I want to buy a seagull 1963 in 38mm, it’s the perfect size for me. But I simply cannot get over the fact that these red star or sugess models that come in 38mm are basically homages. The actual seagull company sells the real deal, only in a larger size, no sapphire, no display caseback, for a ridiculous price, and it just simply does not appeal to me. But I can’t in good faith buy a homage.
I really wanted the limited run and was sad when I couldn’t get it.

The hour hand is far too long. Needs to be a lot shorter to differentiate from minute hand at a glance.

DO NOT BUY! These watches are dodgy as. I have had 2 now which don’t keep time and just stop when timing. Each time seagull refuse to accept anything is wrong and will not give a refund. It’s not worth your money!
