I’ve been pondering getting a seagull 1963 for a good couple of years now but just pushed it back. Saw this new release a few days ago and just thought go for it. It’s a no brainer. Its got history and great looks and now in bronze. I’ve pulled the trigger and ordered one.
I’ve had mine for a couple of years now… I don’t wear it often… But that’s not really the point… Just looking at that movement every now and then it’s worth it. I was able to find the stainless steel version with sapphire crystal for about 150 US it’s not from seagull as there are several manufacturers that are licensed to make this watch… That doesn’t make it a fake or knock off… It’s a very convoluted story… Check out 10:19 Jody at just one more watch… he did an awesome video about the history and background… He’s has five of them
The Chinese characters on the tin say "CHINA" and the characters of the bottom of the dial say "FIRST (or LIMITED) EDITION" and "MADE IN CHINA" at the bottom.
Just a tip on centering the Bulova chronograph second hand... keep the upper right hand pusher depressed and, voila! the hand just sweeps around the dial. No need for 300 mini pushes. Hope I've made your day. Love the channel BTW.
Good advice about late night online shopping. I once bid on a very nice bracket clock for far too much money. It had been bespoke manufactured for a corset manufacturers (had pictures of corsets on the dial). Next day I woke up sweating . I'd been outbid fortunately. Another time, I bid on a 16 channel Allen and Heath mixing desk I neither wanted, needed or had room for. Thankfully, same thing happened. I think it's actually the combination of internet, late nights and beer which causes these lapses of judgement
I got one of these from a previous "limited edition bronze" thing they had - I'm extremely skeptical of the whole limited edition shabam - however thr watch itself, which I've had for a few months, is gorgeous and does really take on a nice patina after a few weeks.
I bought my 38 mm 1963 with sapphire in 2019. It came in a green wooden box. I wear it on the light brown Rios strap it came on . I love it. 50 hour power reserve with one full wind. I got it from Poljot 24 in Germany.
You can make a really nice patina on brass, bronze etc by wrapping it with rubber bands. The sulfur in the rubber reacts with the metal and causes a pleasing brown patina. Because it's rubber bands stretched over the metal, the patina is in the form of stripes, which can look really cool if done well.
Cool as that is, I think having lines on the watch from the bands would look terrible. Better off putting the watch in a bag with crushed boiled eggs :)
@@markotoole7937 I've seen it look really good on some brass flashlights, but obviously it does depend heavily on the artistic acumen of the person doing it.
@@markotoole7937 I've done the hardboiled egg brown bag thing w/ my brass Helson Shark Diver. People bitch about that not being natural but when you wear it the watch shines up in some areas and stays dark in others. The nice thing about all of this is if you don't like it you can quickly bring it bag to bright and start over. I think this little 1963 is going to look amazing, ordered one the other day.
I ordered one as soon as I saw it on another channel since I love my steel 1963. That being said this was about 2 months ago and tho they sold out soon after I placed my order i haven't seen a watch. Their communication has been prompt and polite so I'm hopeful. As of today they estimated a week.
Ordered mine five weeks ago still waiting I hope its worth the wait and getting run around from seagull on how long it will take. Well they have $500.00 of my money and I don not have a watch yet just a warning for others. Love your video just found your channel. I will be watching more. Another watch enthusiast, Franklin
Great review……I did the same as you and order one of these late at night after watching a couple of gushing reviews on UA-cam with the fear they would sell out! Low and behold they have now sold out. Still haven’t received the watch but i cant wait. Having to sell my Hamilton Khaki Field Bronze to fund the purchase but needs must…….
Mine is 196 out of 750. Shipping was FREE by DHL. I ordered on Friday and got my watch Monday. I changed the strap to leather bang. And from 7/10/23 it is adding +10.26 sec per day.
I just got mine in. Shipped all the way to central Texas in less than a week. #266 here. Also thank goodness for the sapphire crystal. Brand new out of the box I dropped it in the kitchen on tile and it didn’t shatter. I would’ve been devastated lol.
I really like my 1963 steel but making this in bronze is going to be next level cool. The polished steel look almost like chrome plating, I knew I wasn't crazy about it but I know a patina'd bronze is truly going to be special.
I definitely like the vintage look of it! Those late night purchases get me too. One time, I got a half asleep ok from the wife on a set of speakers. Then when they showed up, she said “why didn’t you check with me?”😅
I got a 38mm Sapphire (with gooseneck or swanneck or whatever it's called) from the Aliexpress summer sale a week or two ago. Weirdly it was advertised as a Red Star brand, though it came in a zip up case with branding, not a metal case. Not sure if there's even different sellers pretending to be Red Star! Saw the bronze on offer from a few Ali sellers but it doesn't fit the vintage aesthetic for me - though I'm sure some don't agree! Some don't like the Sapphire crystal either and don't think it's true to the original, which is fair enough. I'm not getting stellar power reserve out of mine though, maybe about 18 hours. I might be too conservative with the winding.
Gorgeous piece. Had seen them around before, there's a similar non-anniversary version, iirc. I wish far more mechanical watches had the exhibition back case, irrespectively of the movement's finishing. For me, it's the whole purpose of a mechanical watch: to see the movement. Hope your channel rockets!
Don't spend late at night, message me and have your ear chewed off with unbelievable tales. 😂 Have seen and passed up on these watches. I guess I am just not attracted to them. I am firmly entrenched in my love of divers and 'adventure ' watches. Thank you as always for your great review and passionate description of this watch. I am sure it will appeal to many. Take care, Sir.
@@TheYoungMontana The red star does certainly have some negative connotations in some circumstances, that may have been ingrained in our lives. Symbolism can be a great detractor.
You should check out genuine Sea-Gull watches. They’re definitely an interesting Chinese watch company. All original designs and in house movements. They have a few pretty cool watches but all anybody talks about are the fake 1963s made by red star and sugess, lol.
Fake is a very relative term regarding chinese watches in general and those specifically since they all have genuine seagull movements and i believe Red star were the first to make those 1963 homages before Sea-gull realized the potential and jumped on it to, charging three times the price for what is basically the same watch!
@@אלכסס-ח5ג One seagull is made by seagull and one seagull is made by Red star. I don't know what else you expect me to call them. If I made a fake seiko with a real nh35 and sell it for half as much it's still a fake seiko. I bought a sugess 1963 before I knew any better and a subdial hand fell off after 3 months and fell off again after I paid a shop to fix it. They sell those watches for marginally higher prices then the cost of the movement and it shows in the quality control. UA-camrs always give these things good reviews because they review it 3 days after they buy it. If you want a watch to actually wear regularly for a long period of time without breaking you get a better deal buying a real sea-gull.
Same movement, but everything else sucks. I bought a 150 dollar 1963 and a subdial hand fell off after a few months. They’re only slightly more expensive than the cost of the movement itself and it really shows.
How about some former nazi watches by stowa, laco , iwc l&s no problem there? As far as i know the only country to be nuked by the us is japan so maybe we all should stop buying seiko.

Yes no brainer to get it, if the watch is same quality and swiss, it will cost at least 5 grand.😅

I got a "Plan B" Seagull 1963 that I got from Sugess, sapphire crystal and 40mm.. love the watch, dig that bronze one!
Someone commented on another video it’s like San Martin celebrating Tudor’s anniversary. And I agree.

Actually Acrylic withstands impacts better than sapphire crystal (plastic is more durable than crystal) scratches on the other hand.

Those are crazy hands! I can see that being confusing at a glance.
Love the look of this watch. But think I'd be happier without the Bronze... Loved the EDC blade too!!!
courtesy or ridge, G. You want it? Too small for me. I may have to keep it, I think they're going to sign a longer term deal with me

Glad you like them!
Where can I find a strap in that color combo?
Crazy how much you get for the money.. What a stunning movement!!
I liked the video when you asked me to :) It works, see?
Hi did any of you get charged custom duty & how much? How long did it take to reach USA

The 1963 has really gone up in price. That's what I paid for my SARB033... oh, wait ten years ago.
Damn, I miss paying under $100 for a Bambino...
Good stuff. I am cheap. I like cheap watches.
I wanna get one but I don’t know which website is the authentic one , I read on UA-cam there are the “fake one “
Great review! 🙌
Why is 3 atm/3 bar not enough for every day wear for you?
the freaking watch is an eyecandy...😊
Why not offer link to AE ?
I don't think it's as nice as the stainless steel versions and the price is mad. Enjoyed the video though! 👍
It’s an easy watch to love. I’ve got the black case with the silver complications. I love it but it does look like a panda on acid😂

Yeah, being Chinese myself, I just can't get myself to wear a watch that is so communist looking.

How many of the 750 watches have been sent to youtubers for review ?

The Chinese writing says: China.
But you didn’t put it on your wrist. Why???
lol. well it had been on my wrist for a while. missed opportunity. if you haven't figured it out by now I'm not the best watch UA-camr...
Chinese watch - NATO strap 🙃
Actually, it might benefit from a conventional strap which would save a millimetre or so of overall thickness.
