I drove round it 2 nights ago when I was working at Loughborough Station on the slow lines … at the viaduct near Pilings, I looked off the slow lines and there’s wild pennywart everywhere, massive clumps of it… if you saw it with your own eyes you would shake your head in disgust … yeah, I covered what’s happening in my neck of the woods in a video I dropped 3 days ago … I reckon it’s going to get worse…
@ the ware was incredibly active, I’ve been working nights … the debris is backing up … there’s islands of Pennywart choking up under and around the railway viaduct …
I travel all over the country… the leaves that fall during autumn are not cleared away … that’s one problem … culverts and drainage systems are constantly backed up all year round… cash strapped Britain… is only going to get worse, it needs to be Britain first when it comes to vital infrastructure…
It's the Soar Valley, what do you expect? It's always flooded, where do you think all the water is going to go? It's a flood plain, the clue is in the name.
@@brendanpells912 Oh yes, missed that one didn't I, when it comes off the plain it needs to go somewhere and if the drains were clear there wouldn't be as much going elsewhere
Big problem is you youngsters live in today. There have always been floods and we learned to live with them and didn't stupidly try to drive modern cars through them. My village square was flooded four or five times a year and still does but not quite as badly since an old mill gate was taken down and now the water floods the meadows below enriching them.
Its a flood plain and its that for a reason, Slash Lane has ALWAYS flooded and in the early 80's it flooded every year and in fact the Barrow Slabs used to be flooded as well and this year its not got that high so stop trying to make out its so bad, its not.
@@mikesheldon1957 didn't make out it was bad, just saying more could be done to make it less so, nip into Sileby and ask those flooded home owners if it's bad
What can the government do? Raise the road 4 feet? That would cost $$$$ mind you the transport costs for the aggregate wouldn't be much with the quarry just 1 mile away!
No, just clear culverts and ditches out more often, in the Jan/Feb floods of this year streets in Loughborough were covered and flooded houses, it was later found to be the road drains blocked up.
@@NarrowboatSuperBabsolutely. I was born and raised in Burton on Trent in the early 1960’s and floods were a frequent occurrence, sometimes up to 6 feet in the Trent’s flood plain. The river had to be regularly dredged to reduce this problem. The Soar flows into the Trent, if the latter isn’t able to cope with the extra water from the former then flooding in and around Charnwood occurs. Then there are the brooks in Loughborough feeding the Soar and canal which exacerbates the problem. The solution is to dredge the Trent downstream from the Soar/Trent junction, then along the Soar and clear the canal. Finally, the old fashioned drainage ditches need clearing or dug.

What's it looking like down at Pillings.

Holland have figured out how to contain flood water . WTH Britain

It's not called a flood plain for nothing...........
@@thebrowns1017 That's exactly what it is, and if the gullys and ditches were cleared regularly the water would be able to get away a bit more
