  • As usual I was so excited about getting this plane in the air I totally skipped the post build video. Well I made a promise and broke it so karma came into play!!!....LOL Oh well!
    Well back to the shop for rework and repairs!! Lesson here was do not get in such a hurry to maiden a plane that you do not give yourself enough time and a better location. I should have waited for a another day and could have taken her to my usual field where there are no concrete curbs!!
    Thanks for being my only sponsor!
    You do that by hitting that thumbs up button and subscribing to my channel!
    God bless!!
    It is still a great value and you can get the plane her: www.helidirect...

    Well I got into too big a hurry and choose the wrong flying site. Well impatience and concrete curbs are not a good combo!

    Make sure your tires have a little bit of "toe in" That will help it track better. With most tail draggers, you gotta come up smooth on power and be all over the rudder. I use negative expo on rudder on some planes for this reason. Makes it that much more responsive. If your tailwheel can slide on its axle, see if you can shim that up to keep it laterally stable. When you did lift off, it seemed like it was underpowered. Maybe you were not at WOT? Wood models (including Vmar) tend to be heavier than you would expect. Heavier than a foamie of same size. I would be running at least a 480 class motor 3S in that plane. Probably 900-960kv with 10x6 or 11x6 prop if you have the ground clearance. Good luck!

    I just got this same plane, except the grey Air Force version. Although it's a good plane, soon as it gets throttle, the tailwheel is coming off the ground, even with full up elevator, and the the tail goes all over the place. Never had a plane so hard to taxi as this. Now I see how you hit the curb. I'm experimenting with with an APM with compass and GPS in mine. The stabilization is not working the best, but the return to home is working great.

    With 75% of all of my FMS planes, they fly their best AFTER their 1st crash/hard landing. (Why, idk🤔). After that, they're great! (Explorer 2, super ez 1, )

    My first trainer was a VMAR - great colour scheme on that BirdDog - why didn't you use the grass area and aircraft like that is going to take off easy on grass - (and no curbs) LOL..... Sorry but at least she lives to fly another day....

    • @FatGuyFliesRC
      @FatGuyFliesRC  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks, because I was impatient and did not have time to make it to the grass strip before bad weather. If I would have listened to the voice of reason and waited for a better day then there wouldn't have be an issue with curbs!!

    Oh man, sorry about that. I don’t think that site was a good one for a maiden flight. Back to Avon Park next time, right?

    Hi. I have just put the Vmar pc-9 Pilatus together and was trying it for the first time today and I cant even get it up from the runway, tried both 2s and 3s but it was impossible. After a while the motor started to smell burnt. It seems to be old electricity or at least the connectors are odd. I have ordered a new motor and esc but is it worth it or should i by another brand arf? Thanks/John
