    An RC airplane hobby is not a viable option for me, at least not for a few years; I've already got other hobbies on the back burner that I need to return to. But it is pure pleasure watching your builds, or listening to your radio voice in the background while working on projects.

      I worked on bird dogs in 67-68 in vietnam . We had a couple that needed major repairs but dont believe we lost any.
      We had rockets on one wing and m60 machine gun on the other . Both got used .
      Really enjoyed your video , brought back a lot of memories . Got to go up on one of the test flights which pilot did some amazing things
      Your model seems equally ++ capable ,, i,'m impressed with loop . Great video .

    Big beautiful plane, only complaint I can see is the finish on the cowl paint. Looks like a lot of orange peel otherwise looks like it went together easily. Also wish they made the auto start for the 120, that would have been cool.

    • @HobbyView
      @HobbyView  Рік тому +1

      Yea, I meant to say something about that, but got missed in the edit. Not sure if all the kits are like that. My kit was quite literally one of the first production versions so hopefully they sorted out the painting techniques for the cowl.

    Great job building and flying! I've watched many of your videos, so I finally subscribed. I used to fly nitro planes (meaning MANY years ago) but just a year or so ago got back into RC with electrics. I once built a Circus Hobbies Bird Dog (about 109" wingspan I think). LOVE Bird Dogs! Spent so much time and put so much detail into it....that it became a "hanger queen". You know...the one you just didn't want to crash. LOL. In fact, when I got out of nitro planes, and flying altogether for many years (I sold everything I had) ...but it's the only plane that I kept! I built it when I was about 40....I'm 72 now. Anyway....you keep those videos coming.

    Fitz,
    I bought the smaller 100" one from Texas Warbird people in '19 but things have just kept me from getting to it. I did learn some things about the Bird Dog.
    - The multi part US Army Training video series on the L-19 is available on UA-cam
    - Over 400 L-19 / O-1 Bird Dogs were lost in SE Asia. The casualty rate was much higher than for the lost jets because they flew at such low altitudes (no bail out) and if they survived the crash but weren't in friendly lines, well, Charlie didn't take prisoners.
    - The Warrant Officers that flew these planes became infamous tree top flyers of the '70s and '80s. Stephen Stills (of Crosby, Stills and Nash) wrote a song about them and there are several versions here on UA-cam.
    It would be cool to get some Estes rocket motors with out an ejection charge, maybe with smoke, to simulate rocket launches.

    Fantastic ! I once built a 1/4 scale L-19 from Roy Vaillancourt plans, but sold the plane before I flew it. I modified his plans to correct a couple of scale issues, and when I set it up, had the landing lights on a micro switch to come on as the flaps were lowered, it would have been a good tell-tale to ensure flap position while in flight. This "almost 1/3 scale model looks really nice, will have to look into maybe getting one. I've flown back seat in one, it's unbelievable how short the takeoff and landings can be, and with half flaps it can just hang in the air. Can the flaps on this model go past 40 degrees? Full flaps on the full scale is 60 degrees. If you really like this aircraft type, you should look for a copy of "The Lovable One-Niner", by Minard Thompson, Jr, published by Turner Publishing. It has the full history and development of the aircraft and a multitude of photos in many different paint schemes, an excellent resource for the modeler.
