I was introduced to Steve Vai when a friend of mine went into a music store one day and bought 5 copies of an album called "Passion and Warfare". He handed them out to us and after first listen, my appreciation of the guitar changed forever. Now here we are 31 years later and I'm as blown away listening to this new track as I was listening to Steve back in 1990. That signature sound of flawless key changes and Octave leads NEVER gets old for me... Can't wait for the full album now, January is sure gonna drag until then!

I really love the chord progressions Steve is doing lately. They're very unpredictable, ethereal, and unique. Plus this distorted guitar tone is beautiful here.
The distortion is not new, but my guess is he placed the mic farther from the cabinet. This tone is a bit deeper/rounder than previous albums, especially in the chorus.
Steve, Dusty Rhoads here. I’ll see you in Dallas AND in Houston. When Steve Vai comes to Texas, you see him as much as possible. Thanks for keeping the music alive.
I am a guitar player. I saw Steve Vai live for the first time in 1982 with Frank Zappa band, in Torino - Italy. And just followed all his successful career, got all his albums, etc. He is a genius of Modern Rock Guitar. Much inspiration from him. He always put bizarre, extravaganza and smart ideas in his music, and his way of playing guitar!
Really enjoy the tone. This sounds like a player matured & just comfortable in his own skin...nothing to prove because it's long *been* proved. It makes it a better listen. ...Can't wait to see it performed live!
Your comments make perfect sense, i.e. contextually perfect. At first listening (yesterday) my ears were surprised, almost startled. Then this morning I found the opening melody playing over and over in my head - soon after to discover that I was "hearing" it in the correct pitch. I've not ever had that happen after a single listen. THAT is a catchy melody. There is definitely something very special going on here. I really look forward to hearing more. 😊
I was only 12 years old when my dad gave me a CD called The Ultra Zone in 2001. I listened to that CD every night for 1 year and since then I haven't stopped listening to his discography, every collaboration for other artists, seen every video, interview and motivational talk that can be found on the internet. Thank you Steve for giving me so much.
Hey Nico, Your post is very touching for me. Thanks so much. When I read stuff like this it inspires me to dig deeper every time. I feel tremendously fortunate. You rock... you all do! (Steve)
3:20 my favorit sound of this song. Sounds like a very hungry baby waking up in the middle of the night crying out loud but then even more extreme. It sounds so raw, intense and from within. Pure art
This is the Vai song I have been waiting for. There have been many since Passion and Warfare that I have loved (most if not all) but there is something about this one that reminds me of when I heard Passion and warfare back in the late 80's. Thank you Steve from the bottom of my heart for putting this out on UA-cam for free and Thanks for all you do! This is excellent!!!!!
Vai has created a relatable melody with nice hooks. Lets see if the other songs are equally as relatable because there is only so much mainstream Vai fans and not shills will tolerate with odd time signatures, bizarre voodoo scales and zappaesque note phrasing before it all becomes a hot ear mess of jazz fusion wankery which then gets protected as sacred speech by "enlightened" fanboi's who critique ,of all thing Vai, "the high priest of guitar" as masterful and ethereal but couldn't recite a melody of the vast amount of songs if they tried.
Im an ex high school dropout turned bum for most of his twenties. I got tired of my own shit and told myself this will be the first song I’ll play after I pass my state exam in math and enroll in electrical engineering course that starts this fall. What I love about Steve´s music is like you have no idea, when the song will take you, what lies ahead... wonderful! Always so happy to explore his new music bar after bar!
Oh my what a track.. you are on fire Steve. The tone alone is just like cream for your ears and the selection of notes is like no other. This album is gonna be a celebration
Sounds so compressed. I wish we could go back to using more Tape and revisiting the 1970's techniques. This method took longer and more time cutting and pasting but the sound was incredible. This also brought more realism in the human nature. Steve Vai is incredible. Top of food chain in the industry. One of the greats. I just miss the old Studer machines
The 1st comment I've seen with any hint of negativity... And I completely agree - I find this very hard to listen to and the extreme compression takes away from anything feeling delicately delivered. I appreciate the creativity but I know I won't be listening to this much simply based on how it sounds..
ua-cam.com/video/-omLnJjJm30/v-deo.html like this perhaps...smooth pads and more organic sounding drums, less processed sound. Will be re-released in an Instrumental version only later, and slightly remixed. Full album in the making with that type of sound is under it's way.

Un Feliz año para todos !!!
Como siempre genial, Lleno de virtuosismo y de armonía 🤘🤘🤘
July 18th Grand Junction, Colorado...Mesa Theater. Finally get to see Steve Vai in concert. Thought the day would never come. Cant wait for this one.
Since i discovered who the stunt guitar guy on Frank Zappa records was, i love Steve Vai's playing and later his composing of course ❣️
... and this will never end..

This is so beautiful, that low b really shines on this one. Beautiful lush chords and a discordant harmony, Steve this one is gold.
Very cool. Love then suspense between notes in some of the chords and phrasing. Your music drives my wife nuts but I love it…….
Steve, the imagery is trippy. Always chasing after that mystical, cosmic vibe.
thank you steve for your Music 😊👍 Always Awesome
It does my heart good to know that you're still writing and producing amazing music...thank you for this generous gift of music!
I dig the video format Steve... it's amazing because your music lends itself to so much visualization due to the "color" of your playing. I'd really love more of this kind of stuff in the future!
This amazing new song has some Bad Horsie vibes. I love it, thank you Steve for inspiring all of us for so many years.
