When he said 'fans love these characters' my first thought was 'Uh, no we don't'. A robot guy and a bald superman? I don't even remember them in comic books.
You don’t necessarily need to hire people who are fans for the source material, what is actually more important is hiring writers who know how to tell good stories in general. Case in point, arguably the best bit of Star Trek, the film Wrath of Khan, was made by Nicholas Meyer who wasn’t even a Trek fan and didn’t know much about the franchise at all, but he knew how to tell a strong story and that film was a huge success. An example again is last year Andor show for Star Wars, Tony Gilroy is noted to not be a Star Wars fan and couldn’t care less about it but again he knew how to tell a good strong story and the strong writing proved Andor a cut above most of the Star Wars properties in the recent years. Being a fan is great, but it’s easy to forget that sometimes fan creatives can get caught up in things being a nostalgia fest and lose track of the story. Good writing is more important than just a love for the source material.
That is almost the exact same argument given by the studios when describing their bigger failures. I don't think the argument is without merit in some cases, but there is a certain level of respect and understanding of a pre-established worlds or characters that needs to exist that is proportionate to the size and scope of its overall fan base. Only a really strong and talented writer can come in completely blind and have any hope at success, but I'd argue that even then it would still require at least a superficial understanding. A bigger travesty is when they are dismissive or even belligerent towards the source material.
@@Dilligff most of these big franchises are big enough that most people already have superficial understanding of the universe through just existing in the real world and knowing pop culture. Besides, plenty of content have been made over the years by big fans of certain properties and they don’t end up well. So I would say again that fan level and “respect” is not necessary. Any good writer should be focused on knowing how to write a good story first and then surround themselves with production people who do have love for the source material and know the worlds deeply. The importance is just being a good writer who is open to collaborating and taking in ideas from others and keeping things balanced.
Yeah ... that's always so idiotic. They take the name of an IP, because they have a fan base (aka built in audience), and then change everything about it that is loved by those very people they tried to appeal to by using the IP in the first place. What's to gain by actively pissing people off?
Just look at the new one piece! Clearly, they LOVE the source material, but they’ve changed story bears but it’s clear that the writers adore Oda’s work. Even people who’ve never read or watch one piece bring up the exact same things they like about Luffy.
Shazam was not a B lister. If you ever walked into a book store. You would have at least learned of the New 52. A complete brand reboot of all the DC heroes for better or for worse. Shazam got re-branded and became one of the main leads in the justice league. Fans have known about him for a long time going back to the DCAU with the superman versus Shazam fight in Justice league Unlimited back then he was Captain Marvel. He also played a major role in the young justice animated series also back then as captain Marvel, so he is well known, the fact you guys don’t know about it’s not my problem because it’s obvious you don’t read comic books, nor do you watch cartoons. And the new 52 was a chance to not only rebrand the entire DC comic book universe, but also do new things with its core characters and 11 side characters. So it was really good like the batgirl series was actually really decent. Batman still sort like hotcakes, but they kind of screwed around with the teen titans and that whole mess so for a lot of movie going Normies Shazam is not as obscure as you might think.
Respecting the source material is not the same as following it step by step. I’m not sure why people think you can just adapt things word for word when adapting it to a totally different media. Step back and really think about the MCU’s adaptations.
Exactly! I've loved Superman for nearly 40 years and I absolutely hated Man of Steel. That was totally Superman painted with a Batman brush and it didn't work. Snyder made a Superman for people who don't like Superman.
I understand why Marvel put Spider-Man in Civil War... MONEY... but that was a HUGE mistake for Spider-Man, Ant Man, AND Tony Stark. Forcing SM into CW made Ant Man switch teams, which made NO SENSE given his whole first movie was about getting clean and reuniting with his daughter, and they had to make his character suddenly love Captain America more than his own daughter to do it. Ant Man should ABSOLUTELY have been on the government's side, if he was gonna be there at all. As for Spider-Man, it is INSANE to think Tony Stark would invite some rando kid to the battle. Especially when Tony tries to excuse Peter the minute Peter gets hurt. Like, WHAT did Tony think was gonna happen in a battle with SUPERS?!?! If anything, THIS is when Peter could have been on a class trip in Europe, he hear's about a commotion, and he sticks his nose in where it doesn't belong, getting the attention of the heroes for a future movie plot. Or, have the fight at JFK or LaGuardia so Peter can easily show up. Or, SAVE PETER for the Spider-Mens movies rather than shoe-horn him into a movie that makes no sense. Frankly, with the exception of bits & pieces, I've been more disappointed than not with choices that make NO sense in the Tom Holland SM movies. And it is SUPER telling that the BEST villains of the third movie in HIS franchise, are from OTHER franchises.
Omg lol. Man of Steel pointed it out perfectly! That rant really needs to stop. And not everything needs to be source material accurate to work on screen. People act like the MCU is a okay by play.

fun fact about the Lamborghini thing. someone in my country once rebuilt a Toyota Supra into a Ferrari. he took the car apart, ordered Ferrari parts and rebuilt it. the rebuild cost more than 3 times the car's original price, but when he was done, he had a Ferrari with a worse motor in it (Toyota motor). the car looked fantastic though. the thing with Kevin Feige though is that he is incredibly woke. And I mean, extremely. He is the reason Marvel is now failing. Phase 4 and now 5 are complete failures. I haven't seen a Marvel film since Black Widow, because of Kevin Feige. I don't know if I will ever enjoy another Marvel movie. So that's why Infinity war sucked donkey ¤#%&s, there was no plan. such a terribly written movie it's laughable. Now it all makes sense
_the thing with Kevin Feige though is that he is incredibly woke_ Most people are not Incels who hate women and non whites. You don't represent most audiences, you're just loud and obnoxious. That's why the Snyderverse movement failed. You think you are commanding an army when it's just 5 dudes who still live with mom. As for Feige - he went over his bosses heads at Marvel to make Black Panther and Captain Marvel - you know - the films you hate, for 'reasons'. Those films made almost 3 billion dollars between them and also won multiple Oscars. Feige has 99 problems, but an Incel isn't one.
Shazam and Swamp Thing were not obscure both having had multiple shows (in the case of Swamp Thing multiple movie also) and have had almost as much pop-culture weight as Ironman and Thor had when they re-debut.
yes and no.. to the Tone thing... DC animated series (2010's) are tone wise all serious ( at least the good ones) i am a grown up person not 10 years old, i am a realist, thats why i think the Winter Soldier was the best MCU movie tone wise, and i hate Thor Ragnarok/Thor Love and Thunder all that comedy is misplaced.. the character in the comic's ( prior the new "progressive writers) was never funny, was a simpleton was half way towards Hulk smash mentality, but not a man-child you can make fun of, or talk down... i Loved Man of Steel, cos it was made to feel like real life, and in real life if your opponent is on equal footing in terms of strength and is hellbent on a fight in a city, you cant do shit against that, and in a life or death fight (especially if it's over the extinction of all humans) you dont have the luxury to care about collateral damage, cos the stakes are to high..
Obviously, the coin of the realm is excessive amounts of money to waste. Why don't they let the pendulum swing in the opposite direction. Try making a decent movie with a very limited budget...with the use of some imagination and discerning exposition...someone can make a dynamic character driven movie with some potential. Throwing "money" at a project is not the formula..... if the basic premise is not sound. This rebooting is getting tired....how many Flash...Batmen...Jokers can a DC universe accept? Sad to say..I don't feel Gunn is the answer...while I respect his talents....fresh blood is needed. Some people out of the "loop" could save this cluster-f^%$. Perhaps some Anima directors?? Canadian? UK/Ozzie screen writers. Shake it up! Throw some money into some "quirky" ventures..what have they have to loose???Anyway..Love the channel..very inspirational to we geeks and novices alike.
those characters are only main cause they got movies first. could have did guardians or antman first instead then they would be the main. captain america, thor and iron man are NOT spiderman and xmen levels. tell the truth to shame the devil!
Wonder Woman was great but Wonder Woman 1984 SUCKED Disrespecting the IP is best seen with The Last Airbender They didn't even respect it enough to call it Avatar: The Last Airbender

fun fact about the Lamborghini thing. someone in my country once rebuilt a Toyota Supra into a Ferrari. he took the car apart, ordered Ferrari parts and rebuilt it. the rebuild cost more than 3 times the car's original price, but when he was done, he had a Ferrari with a worse motor in it (Toyota motor). the car looked fantastic though.
the thing with Kevin Feige though is that he is incredibly woke.
_the thing with Kevin Feige though is that he is incredibly woke_
Most people are not Incels who hate women and non whites.
Please react to justice league (2001)
James Gunn isn't going to fix this mess
James Gunn isn't as good as all the hype says he is. He's not even 1/4 as capable as Feige
Why has the animated films been consistently better than the live action versions
But I disagree with him. I HATED the Dark Knight movies
"interesting directors" that they can control, use once and toss away.......
Wonder Woman was great but Wonder Woman 1984 SUCKED
Disrespecting the IP is best seen with The Last Airbender
They didn't even respect it enough to call it Avatar: The Last Airbender
Cameron Lawsuit problem?
@@summertyme5748 Right, cause EVERYONE would confuse a movie with ten foot tall blue aliens with a bald kid who can push air around
I didn't buy that bs in 2009 and I don't buy it now
If James Cameron had really brought a case like that to court, he would've been laughed out faster than a Trump lawyer
Flash
black adam was FUN, shazam was annoying and BORING
So many bad takes, Cant wait for this DCU to burn to the ground. 🤭
Shazam is a stupid movie with lot of plot holes but people seems to like it because it's "fun"!
this guy steals everyone's views
Reactions actually push people to the real video while people like me get to rewatch it with different views
They share additional information and what they agree and disagree with the video. They are like friends from internet.
man of steel made money, WW made money, Aquaman made money, even theawful BvS made tonn of money.. but somehow its never enough...
call me anything but sorry... not gonna watch any superman related thing by james gunn if he casts lame actor
I'm sick of Superman and Batman movies
I’m sick of bad Superman movies.
@@brucechmiel7964 From 1978 to 2011's Green Lantern movie its like Warner Brothers forgot there was any other super her IN DC except for Batman and Superman, and even then, they just made one flop after another
And I don't care what anyone thinks, the Dark Knight movies were horrible
@@dragonweyr44 personally, I love the dark Knight trilogy. However, even icon admit that it’s not the best representation of Batman matter fact, none of the live action movies have really captured the essence of Batman. It his entirety. The animated films are incredible. I particularly love the Green Lantern movies. Emerald Knights, First Flight, Beware my power is pretty good. Oh let’s not forget Green Lantern TAS it was criminal what happened that show.
@@brucechmiel7964 The animated stuff is incredible, even the Lego movies were good, if not just silly
I would recommend watching Flash: World War 2
But i think that the Legion of Super Pets was terrible
@@dragonweyr44 it was a stupid idea. There was an animated series about Krypto and Ace. But that wasn’t any good either.
That was fun, even though I disagree with 70% of everything said.
why lol, most of this is objectively correct
@@a.a677 LOL! Not sure how you can objectively say opinions are correct lol. However Idc really. Think what you want.
All it matters is that DC takes over this decade
Because I'm sick of the MCU
That gunn could've let snyder finish...JLSC appealed widely to the audience
You mean snyder fans? Snyder's movies were always divisive for a strange reason.
@@williamwoluchem4791 wasn’t a strange reason some people just didn’t fuck with it🤷🏾♂️ i like MOS and ZSJL but where him and WB fucked up in dividing fans was that piece of shit BvS
