    One thing I don’t think anyone has mentioned: Loosen or remove your watch during the first few weeks at least.
    My left wrist was hurting like crazy when I first picked up the guitar until a friend told me to loosen my watch and that made a huge difference, the pain didn’t go away entirely but it was far more tolerable.

    Little warning about the Micro for those who are interested: unless they switched to a smooth finish since last year, the texture on the face and buttons is a bit abraisive, which isn't a problem when using it, it feels fine. However, if you play a lot it rubs teeny tiny little bits of skin off your fingers and that builds up real quick and looks pretty bad against the black. Nothing a brush and some rubbing alchohol can't get rid of, but it's worth noting. Still a solid controller though, it's replaced my official Hitbox for the time being.
    Edit: realised they're making a transparent case, which I assume is smooth, combined with the convex button replacements should solve the issue above

    I bought a Snack Box Micro w/ Heavy Metal plate a few months ago. Absolutely love it. Some things to keep in mind that I find useful.
    1) It doesn't work on PS5 games, but it does work for PS4 games played on the PS5. You just have to make sure to update the firmware on their website.
    2) Dashes are even easier than you think; If you hit forward and HOLD IT while you tap back, the game reads it as 656. That's the SOCD (Simultaneous Opposite Cardinal Direction) Cleaner. Left/Right at the same time defaults to Neutral, and Up/Down at the same time defaults to Up.
    3) I've gotten more mileage out of using different thumbs to hit the jump button depending on the situation. Like if I'm doing a TK motion, I'll often use my right thumb to hit it so I can hit Up and the move (B,HS, whatever...) at the same time more easily.
    Good luck on your Hitbox journey.

    I said in an earlier comment that I play on a keyboard which is comparable to a hit box. The way to help memorize and develop muscle memory for your inputs is to listen to the sound of your key presses. It’s a good habit to pick up when trying to learn the timing for precise inputs in rhythm games too. Once you got the combo down, you can tell precisely how off your timing is if it doesn’t line up with how you remember the rhythm of your key press is supposed to sound when done properly.

I can go all day with no discomfort. I never used a stick, but I went from gamepad to Hitbox and I love it. I have way more control now. I struggled to DP on game pad. Not an issue anymore. Its great. I highly recommend a cheatbox for anyone interested. It wont make you a smarter player, but your inputs will be easier. There's a bit of a learning curve , but its worth it. Goldlewis half circles are fun on this type of controller.

    The snackbox micro is great for travel. I don't really like playing on hitbox but the micro is a solid product. I prefer the MPress as the full size buttons feel more natural. But my main arcade stick is a custom mixbox with a small form factor. As for switching, it is not too hard to pick up other controllers especially if you are playing on your main since you know the timings.
    Oh and obviously play a charge character to get the most out of it using the SOCD to allow for fast flash kicks. You can also slide your finger along the buttons to get the half circle or full circle motions for grapplers if that is your thing.

  • @craptastrophe521
    @craptastrophe521 2 роки тому +9

    I love the Micro so much. Sticks need to be big because of the lever(age), but Hitboxes are huge just because they're assuming they need to be. Hitbox is a fighting game keyboard trying to pretend it's a fight stick. Micro is a fighting game keyboard that owns it and leans into how cool that can be. The whole "don't rest your hands, use piano posture" is less important for this controller because it isn't stupidly large so if you're resting your hands it's on your desk or your lap and is much more natural. Anyway good luck and I hope you enjoy it.
    I saw some questions in the stream that I can answer:
    1. Is it 3d printed? No, the body is cut from some kind of big sheet of industrial plastic with a textured layer on top, which is then mitered out to make room for the buttons and internals. The thing is basically a solid chunk of very durable plastic. I can try and twist it in my hands and it doesn't even creak. They ran over one with a truck and it was barely scratched, and it still works.
    2. Is that the one Tokido has? Yes, he has one and has used it. I don't think it is his main controller.
    3. How do the buttons feel? It uses linear mechanical keyboard switches, if that means anything to you. I prefer the action over Sanwa. The keycaps are 3d printed but it's a high quality process and they have a good feel.
    4. Does it fall off if you place it on your legs? No, Jiyuna was slightly mistaken when he said it was light without the Heavy Metal Plate. The basic comes with a weighted plate, but not as thick as his. All told I think the basic version is like 2 lbs and with the Heavy Metal Plate it's like 4 lbs. Either way it has a non-slick pad on the bottom that clings to fabric even better than desks, so it doesn't really go anywhere. You either have to sit with your legs together or kinda squeeze the edges between your legs, either way it works once you get comfortable with it.
    Finally, I recommend the silencing pads available on their site. They raise the depressed profile of the caps slightly so its more level with the rest of the controller. Double tappers will definitely want that.

  • @HawooAwoo
    @HawooAwoo 2 роки тому +2

    Hitbox user here. A super important part of first using one is using finger exercises to build up the finger/hand muscles that normally barely get any use. The plus side is that you can do these finger exercises even when you don't have the stick. I use to do them on my desk at work. Generally what you want to do is mimic the different special motions you'll be performing in the game of your choice, although mimicking the Tekken wave dash motion and hitbox KBD motion are great exercises even if you don't plan to play those games. The accuracy doesn't matter here, it's getting your hand use to the repetition of the different motions without getting fatigued and cramping up.
    Also the D button that you had by default, personally I almost always hit it with my index. And hitting the jump button with your left thumb does come in handy when you want to IAD as I find hitting two buttons simultaneously (u+f in this case) easier with one hand than two. It also causes IAD to end up feeling almost identical to doing a normal dash.

    Depending on the game, you can cheat the input on DP 623 motion with a real quick 33 (or 214 with a quick 11). This can be finicky though, and my preferred input is either hold 2 and double tap 1/6 depending on direction of DP needed, or hold 1/6 and double tap 2. Either one works for different situations/cancels.

    8:00 i use my left hand to all the movement (left thumb to jump) and my right hand to the rest of the buttons, i dont know if its the most practical but is definitely intuitive to me, specially because im a pc player use to jump with the space bar, also, i use at least in strive:
    P=Square
    K=X
    S=Triangle
    HS=R1

    I used to hate 360s on stick or pad, but on hitbox, it's so much easier. You just piano the left down right and then hit up and your normal button(s) at the same time. Super easy to do standing. Goldlewis was pretty strange to get used to on hitbox, but now that I'm used to him, I'm pretty sure I've got an advantage over stick players. For running double quarter circles, you can just hold forward and then (without letting go of forward) press and release down+back twice; this is the equivalent of sending the game forward, down, forward, down (since back and forward cancel out).

    • @chronology556
      @chronology556 2 роки тому +1

      This always depends on how the game reads inputs, the SOCD cleaner on the controller, and older classic games tend to be more strict, especially for 360s.
      Stick is still better for old games, I gotta admit. Still with practice you can get it work, the biggest struggle for button boxes is 360s in old ancient games.

    I thought about picking one up awhile ago. The thing is I don’t know if I want to go through the learning process again. It took me a little bit to get used to stick, and now the D-pad feels foreign to me. Not in terms of movement, because that’s solid, but things like getting a DP out every time. I find myself not letting go of forward (forward, down-forward), just sitting there punching or kicking the ground, and I’m thinking damn you act like you never used to play on controller. And to clarify, I’m talking about a standard D-Pad. I can use the Razer Raion just fine even though people complained about it dropping inputs. I never experienced this problem, because I don’t press down on the center. I do like how sleek that snack box is. It’ll definitely take some practice to get good with that thing I feel. I imagine things like air throw would be weird for me. I have always thrown with thumb + fore finger. I would have to get used to using fore+middle for that.

    As somebody who used hitbox for a couple years and switched back, will offer some ergonomic advice. This'll probably a little long. I switched back cuz characters I got into in certain games have like 632146 motions, which for me is easier on stick (Sol, Belial), and DP is way more consistent for me on stick. But I still think hitbox type controllers are great, maybe half circle motions being a little more difficult and sometimes DPs in a scramble can be sketchy(and good luck with 360 command grabs), but most motions are faster on hitbox.
    Be very careful with getting TOO much of a claw position. It is the #1 way you can develop carpal tunnel syndrome. Even with an actual keyboard, always better to have to stretch your fingers a little for number keys rather than claw them too much for bottom row keys for safety's sake.
    A regular hitbox has some bulk on the bottom like any controller, but I got into it cuz it was skinnier than most sticks. So it fit on my lap easier. Since that thing has no bulk, I recommend using that more towards the end of your lap. If it's too close you'll get carpal tunnel syndrome plus you'll have to kink your wrists to the side, which can hurt even worse. Keep your wrists as straight as possible to avoid damage. They actually make some hitboxes now where the atk buttons are angled out too, not just the direction buttons.
    One other thing. Unless you are a piano player, you have no idea how much of a punk ass little bitch your left ring finger is, but as left or right it's a very important button. It will take time to develop the muscles in that finger, but it's critical to do so.
    With the priority system (left/right cancel each other, up overrides down completely) there are some pretty dirty tricks for easy motions. DP? Hold fwd and immediately hit down+back and release back. Almost like a plink, but you only release one finger. Double fb supers? Hold fwd then quickly double tap down+back twice. Have to properly release back when you fwd for sonic boom motions so you don't cancel back to neutral at the end, but once you get the timing, those are way easy. Plus you can flash kick without even releasing the down button cuz up overrides it. And don't get me started on the advantages for fuzzy blocking. From crouching block you literally change to blocking overhead by just releasing the down button. IADs are crazy easy too.
    Half circle motions are hard unless you really get good at releasing that back button when you fwd, and once you do they are much easier. Once your ring finger gets buffed, a lot of things will suddenly start to click and get way easier. I honestly think that small of a hitbox might not be that finger friendly, but after a couple months you'll know well enough to confirm or deny that for us. Oh and let Punk know he should try one, because it would be the only way he could teabag even faster than he already does.

    Snackbox is 100% goated. They are kind of unreal good for the size, I couldn't believe how comfortable it was I thought it would be way too small but I was wrong!

    Right thumb on jump is ok, but left is more optimal imo.
    Minimizes right hand movement and leaves the right thumb available to hit the lower row if needed.

    I got giant ass strong man hands my fingers each have abs. Although that small controller may not be for players like myself, but it's cool as af that fighting game players are getting a nice variety of controllers. Might have to give the Hitbox a go though.

    I made the swap to the hitbox fairly easily because I used to play games like super meatboy on keyboard. The only thing I will say is that your inputs will be so precise that inputs will be missed because you do them too fast. I had to relearn the timing for tiger knees, but things like dp's have been way more precise.

    Yo! This might get lost, but, position wise, you can rest the outside of your palms, as long as you bring forward the box, and keep your wrists extended! Ofc, everyone is different, if it hurts, try a different position. There is NO reason leverless should hurt, or any controller for that matter.
    (Personally I put it on my lap, closer to the knees, and lean back in the chair, making lots of room to keep my arms somewhat extended)

      I think it's even better if you're coming to it without the muscle memory of a stick. And even moreso if you're used to playing pc games with keyboard + mouse.

      It'll probably feel awkward for a bit. I started on pad but it hurt my thumbs, so I switched to hitbox and it felt awkward to jump/block/dash (movement in general), then I switched to stick for a while, but I got a lot of miss inputs. I ended up switching back to hitbox for Strive and put in the time to get used to it. It's definitely my favorite of the 3 now that I'm comfortable on it. But now I use a different controller for every game I play ;_:

    Yeah I've been waiting a long time for sticks to become sensibly sized devices instead of a 16 wheeler control panel.
    I expected pads to come out on top but with how fast they break and how companies seem like they're purposely avoiding the best dpad design (Neo Geo Pocket Color), custom size leverless really are the future.

    The most frustrating to me using a regular arcade stick was accidental inputs. Sometime trying to hit 22 I would accidentally hit 1 or 3. For the record I use a Seimitsu Ls-40. Obviously hitting 22 with a hitbox layout is stupid easy with no room for error. Certain inputs however can become more challenging compared to arcade stick but the precision of hitbox speaks for itself. Also interesting "shortcuts" exist. For a shoryken input would be 623, you could do that but I personally do 626 and blazblue would read it as 623.
    Some people complain about hand cramps which I never got, but I did not practice with fighting games at first, I played Bloodstained Curse of the Moon and Octopath Traveler to get used to the hitbox layout.
    That snackbox is making me want an ice cream sandwich :)

    1. That position you described for where to position your hands is the same thing that they teach piano players. For anyone who might think the advice is unintuitive, it's actually super-legit.
    2. When you think you've really mastered that thing, you should do a Goldlewis combo video to prove it, lol.

    To make it more ergonomic for your wrist, just put it on top of some books, make it higher than your wrist so your wrist joint doesn't bend a lot. Also junk food keys is too close together compared to original hitbox, to make it easier just change the right hand button so you start with lower buttons while upper buttons as extra

    my big problem was only circular inputs when I tried. You kinda have to find the fastest way you can input them in which the controller also registers them. I only got used to stick back in the marvel3 days because you just couldn't play any air dasher without a stick at a competitive level. So I'm hoping the same doesn't happen again with the hitbox lol.
