I too replaced the P L A I D emblem with your emblem...I like that it has raised feel...the new emblem is cool also...but it looks like a flat label. I like the one on yours and mine. Thanks for the video!!
New tail lights are far better design because not only they comply with EU regulation by default, it's a much easier to see design than the spotted pattern on the old tail lights with highlighted light as the brake light. I agree the shape of the lights looked better, but I definitely was not down to buy a Model S that had multiplexed tail lights.
Visually old headlights look better to me, they're filled with these tiny squares that give them a sort of complete look, while newer ones, despite obviously being better (martrix) look a bit odd, a lot of blank space around. Rear lights are what I've been waiting for so long, killer design. Wonder if I can retrofit my 2018 MS with these.
Might not be able to. The rear fog light replaced one of the brake lights in the old EU version. Brake lights and turn signal will work because of the highlighted lighting for the old brake lights
If Tesla designed the Model S tail lights to be exactly like Model X, it would've visually looked much better. But non-multiplexed tail lights always look better than multiplexed. Multiplexed tail lights are just outright horrible

Taillights and charge port are integrated. The new design is so they can add the bigger charge port (ccs2) in Europe. And possibly the ccs1 in America.
It complies with EU regulations now even in the US market, which was overdue for 10 years. It's still a much better design functionally because it was a little difficult to see the brake lights in Europe.
The refreshed charge port of the Model S and Model X can accommodate the CCS Combo 2 DC Fast Charging for some countries, making these 2 vehicles compatible with the CCS Combo 2 DC Fast Charging Station and Tesla's V3 Supercharger.
Did you tint the older taillights at all? I’m thinking of tinting them, the charge door especially is just too red. I like the old taillights better than the new as long as I can get the charge door area a lot darker. As for the headlights I like the newer version since they fixed the DRL from burning out and they seem brighter. For the badges, I like the word plaid so people who don’t drive teslas’s actually know it’s a plaid. The symbol no one really knows what it stands for. Thank you.
I prefer the badge being spelt out. Same with Tesla being on the black 'strip' across the trunk. But I do prefer the updated lights and charging port. They look cleaner, but I do prefer the strip intersecting the rear lights, housing the reverse light.
I love the new look. I hope we get a retrofit for at least the headlights. My 2022 MSLR's headlights are terrible compared to my old M3P. The other changes are cool, but not game changing. I think a lot of people enjoyed the MS light up ports..

Yes I’m interested in a solution as well. A cosmetic solution. I find it annoying that my 2021 plaid has already been updated. I’d like to change out the tail lights and appliqué. The headlights might be too involved.
Do you think the headlights can be swapped? They appear to be the same size. Not too impressed with the new taillights and I like the small charge port on the "old" model. I'm sure the Model X Refresh will get a refresh soon enough as well.
Not sure yet, since the parts are so new we haven't been able to test it just yet. The challenge with swapping the taillights is the charging port. The headlights may also need programming to the car.
New lights definitely look better both front and back. Though some might be used to and prefer the older style. I love the new charge port too BUT I will definitely miss the light around the charge port. Was probably my favorite feature that the S had over the model 3/Y.
I prefer the Model S Plaid v1.0 vs the updated v2.0. I like the front and rear lights better along with preferring TESLA across the rear and the metal first 25 badge. Thank you for your side by side!
The lack of new lights were a big reason I was not impressed with the refresh. Now, I'm much happier. And I'm sure Tesla is going to add more to the S before the end of the year: interior ambient lighting, screen swivel motors, HW4.0 are all rumors.

Disagree. No need for a full ground refresh right now in the current state of the company. Growth first and getting as many cars out the door as possible. Plus their demand suggests people are happy with the look. There are many cars that has kept its core look for decades. The 911, jeep, VW bug, e series Lexus, 3 5 and 7 series BMW's. Many more.
@@ronin7645 3 and Y are the cash cows. Tesla could stop making the plaid if they wanted to and it would have little effect on their profits as a company.
@@jacobpeters2007 I agree which supports my thought of not doing a complete refresh on the S right now; they don't need to. Focusing on the 3 and Y is where they should spend the majority of their time. R&D, changing the lines for new equipment (or even new lines), training, etc takes money and time for the S. Once the company catches up to demand and stabales off, then they can move to projects like the exterior of the S and X. Or do things like making the 3 and Y performance version look more aggressive from the base models...similar to what BMW does with the M and Mercedes does with AMG. It took both those companies decades after their inception to do that. I understand your point though on wanting to do it now since the S and X are basically halo cars for the company; profits wouldn't be heavily affected. But still, time and resources should probably be spent on the pressing issues facing Tesla like manufacturing for the 3,Y, AI, solar, and batteries. It'll happen on the complete refresh exterior at some point, most likely...in time. I personally don't feel its needed for the S because it looks beautiful now and keeping that foundational look could be timeless, kinda like the 911. Porsche has made little incremental changes to the the body over the decades and its still beautiful.
@@Anonym-dx2tp Great explanation, Guess brakes are not as important as new headlights. At least the crowd of frightened people will see the car a mile away, enough time to run from the car due to overheated brakes.
New tail lights are far better design because not only they comply with EU regulation by default, it's a much easier to see design than the spotted pattern on the old tail lights with highlighted light as the brake light.
If I saw that right, they messed up with the blinkers. The older one has more LED blinkers at the rear end. Those must be seen from far away. I almost had an accident because I didn't get to see the turn signal on the car in front of me in time.
& yes. I like that badge from the movie the most. It adds a misterious feature to the car that only the Tesla fans should know. 😬 And the charge door, let's say that it can protect the charging plug from the rain more than the previous one.
The turn signal indicator is really easy to see because it's amber and is very long like the Model X. Even the new US Model X has repositioned the brake light to be the same as the Model Y turn signal indicator. It was pretty hard to see the old imperial brake lights in Model S and the brake lights in older US Model X were impossible to see in broad daylight.
For anyone reading comments: 1. Charge port door is necessary for CCS Type 2 and Mainland China 2. New tail light is fundamentally better because it complies with EU regulations and you can actually see the brake lights unlike the old brightened main light outside the trunk area. And now you get two reverse light and two rear fog lights instead of one reverse light and one rear fog light. 3. LED Matrix Projector headlights definitely an upgrade because they're more adaptive so they can be enabled to adjust lighting projection if you want higher lighting down the road but there are oncoming vehicles so you don't blind the drivers
The original Model S rear appliqué included clear reflectors at each end which look like small backup lights, but they are only reflectors. Since the original 2012 Model S, these reflectors have been prone to collecting condensation, creating warranty service headaches for Tesla. I imagine that was one of the motivations for redesigning the rear appliqué. Removal of the Tesla logo-type was likely just a cost-saving measure. The new taillights do have a cleaner design. The new full matrix headlights are not only brighter, but they also have a new traffic tracking capability, which is awaiting government approval. This new feature will give the headlights the ability to create a low beam region that follows oncoming vehicles at night, while continuously illuminating the rest of the road with high beam light. Once approval is given, Tesla will be able to activate this feature with a simple software update.

If I saw that right, they messed up with the blinkers. The older one has more LED blinkers at the rear end. Those must be seen from far away. I almost had an accident because I didn't get to see the turn signal on the car in front of me in time.
new LED strip blinker
& yes. I like that badge from the movie the most. It adds a misterious feature to the car that only the Tesla fans should know.
😬
And the charge door, let's say that it can protect the charging plug from the rain more than the previous one.
For anyone reading comments:
1. Charge port door is necessary for CCS Type 2 and Mainland China
Great info! thanks!
No badge. Sleeper plaid is best.
IMO headlight tints makes no sense and is counter productive.
it's for the look!
Great info!
@@TSportline In the winter, I’m using your 19-inch turbine wheels on my 2020 Model S. Nice to have that option since Tesla never made a turbine wheel in that size.
Spaceballs badge!!
yes!
I definitely like the newer version better. I also hope that it will be possible for people who got the older refresh to retrofit new headlights and tail lights. The Plaid badge is better than the word.
headlight and taillight retro fit? hmmm
I definitely prefer the newest Plaid badge, in fact I wish it were a little bit bigger. I prefer the newer updates on everything else. I think the interior changes weren't in place when you made the video, I also like that they went with the carbon fiber trim and a swivel screen. I like your Carbon Fiber Aero Sport Package and mirror caps, but I'm waiting to see if there are other kits coming out to dress up the front a little more.
Fair enough!
Love the lights front and rear and new charge port door, give me no emblems though!
emblem delete? We can do that!
The front will be the refresh refresh and the back refresh boss Tesla letters.
refresh refresh 2022+
You can't even order the Model S in Europe.... sadly
not yet!
Tesla 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🪄🕊🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The best!
I got my refreshed refreshed Plaid last weekend. The first thing I did was remove that horrible rear badge. I prefer the clean look of nothing.
no badge sleeper
I’ll buy it if you still have it. Cheers
... THE TECHNOLOGY IS NOT THERE YET FOR EV ..... THE RANGE IS STILL VERY SHORT / A MINIMUM 1,000 KM RANGE WE CAN TALK and BATTERY CHARGING TIME MAX 15 MINUTES
lots of 350 to 500 mile range cars out there, which is better than most ICE cars
@T Sportline ..... you charge the battery 80% ....... so in the start you lose 20% of 350 miles ....... 350 miles range is not enough, only for city use ...... if you planing a long tryp arount country you'll be in trouble
Race them
hmmm!
If anyone with a new Model S prefers the older tail lights, I’ll be happy to swap my 2021 tail lights for the newer ones. If it’s possible, I’ll come to you and I’ll do the labor.
we're not yet sure if the new taillights can be retro fitted due to the charge port door. stay tuned, more info coming soon
refresh
refresh, or refresh refresh?
I like the 2022 model better.
Fair enough!
Same, now the brake lights are easier to see
The old tail lights looks like some chinses knockoffs .... New one much better.
Definitely a more modern look
Yeah and now you can actually see the brake lights easily
