"Either die as a HERO or live long enough to see yourself becoming the VILLIAN" Acnologia's reason why he decide to slay Dragon(Good or Bad) was noble, so that no one would ever have experience and suffer the same fate he and his country did BUT the power surge from slaying dragons corrupted his mind as he became more and more bloodthirsty and addicted to slaying Dragons and became a Mad King and through out the centerury he became more and more erratic and unstable switching between being calm and stoic to being bloodthirsty and battle hungry.

Lol what A bit late, but Acnologia is not a hero. He makes it very clear that his goal is to wipe out dragons, and humans are the equivalent of meat obstacles. Acnologia is destruction incarnate, whise motivation besides killing dragons is relieve his boredom by fighting
Imagine Acnologia had arrived before the Celestial Spirit King. Just fly through into the Alegria then Celestial Spirit King summons and crushes Acnologia from above. That would not count as magic coz King use brute physical force that could damage Acnologia pretty much like Igneel did to his arm.
A badass character with a badass looks and design but it's a shame that he was defeated in such a disappointing and predictable manner, Acnologia could have been more Like for example: He said it many times that Magic have no affect on him yet he was subdued by a Magic Spell, If Magic power have no effect on him then the last resort is Curse power so Natsu would have to use his power as a Etherious to fight Acnologia, so we have the epic final battle between The Dragon King vs the Strongest Demon rather than the one we have a fucking nakama punch!
The legit fairy tail acno can annialate the whole world of fairy tail many times over. He killed 100+ dragons theres nothing that can stop him. Except of course nakama power.

Acnologia took advantage of weakened dragon to reap their soul from their body. Igneel travel to future to gain enough magic power to kill acnologia once and for all. But sleeping in natsu bodies for so long he only heal his wound and not gain his power.
