- Chances are, if you’ve pulled a car or truck out of a barn or a field or got a “steal” of a deal on craigslist, there’s going to be some metal work in your near future. Well, Stacey’s no different from the rest of us, and just to prove that he’s got a classic Jeep FC150 that needs some TLC in the metal department. Hang out with us as Stacey talks repair or new fabrication when facing dents, warps, and rust… and check out the nasty corner dent on the FC as Stacey explains how to read a dent and the many different techniques you can use to “Bump” some metal and pull that dent out. You won’t need a box full of tools either, a couple of different hammers and some on and off dolly work will have the sheet metal back in shape quicker than you thought.

Yes but sometimes he doesn't think like the average guy doing a project in his garage, just like on this episode, "they took 1 piece of of sheet metal and put 1,2,3, 4 90 degrees bends in it and then a 30 degree bend to create the bed", yeah how many guys have a 4 or 8 foot sheet metal bender in their garage? Almost noone, why? because even a cheap one from Harbor Freight is $400 and most of us also don't have the room in our garage/shop at home much less the funds to buy one. I LOVE the show but sometimes he gets a little unrealistic with his builds and explaining how to do something "correctly" and that's scares alot of the noobs and the young guys from getting a project vehicles because they THINK they need to go out and buy a $500,000 worth of tools to do something "Correctly" when they don't. That's what I don't like about his or any other t.v. car show, the unrealistic things and tools that they use to accomplish something that could be done another way cheaper with the same end result. Just once I'd like to him or anyone else do a project from beginning to end like WE THE PEOPLE would do it, with not much more than a basic tool set, basic welder and ecomonical paint and primer.
@@TheREALOC1972 yeah, I see on youtube or in magazines 'low budget' builds where they send the motor out, stroke it, etc, send out the trans, send out for paint, change the suspension and wheels...low budget? I don't think so.
@@chrisperry3525 IKR? like "Low Budget" to who, Elon Musk? 10K is low budget not 50k....... All these shows are like "Were doing a Low Budget Build", but were using our 250k worth of tools and all brand new donated parts from a parts warehouse to do it..... Nah man.... That's NOT a "Low Budget Build". Build one like us regular folks do, Used parts from a junkyard that you clean-up and then rattle can black it or swapping a transmission that your not using for a wiring harnass and a set of bucket seats.....

Nice repair on that dent but that bed isn't as bad as looks and the repairs are alot easier than you make it out to be. 99% of those pinholes can be filled with weld and for the stuff that's too big to be filled in with weld it can be easily cut it out and patch with used metal, because that's what a REAL fabicator who's worth his salt will do. A couple of years ago I bought a wrecked 83 Ford panel van for $150 and cut off all the usual sheet metal and then sold the rest for scrap, the recycling center barely gave me enough to cover the gas getting there and back but I got alot of useable sheet metal for other projects. I'm in the middle of doing the body work on a 66 AMC Rambler 4 door for my 12 year old grandsons first car that had the usual rust holes, wanna guess where I'm getting the sheet metal? If you guessed from the van you'd be right. It's already more than paid for itself. I don't consider myself a master fabricator by any means but I know more than most, my dad was though, he ran a Hot Rod from the mid 70's to the early 2000's and the FIRST thing he taught me about wrenching on cars was "Work Smart not Hard".
