@@Elly3981 it's really just because his career with starfleet is too important to him to worry about romantic affiliation. he had girlfriends here and there but inevitably his work always got in the way, and any time we see a future picard or an alternate universe picard that no longer had his career with starfleet he always ends up getting married he was married to the enterprise in every respect
They set this scene up so perfectly, riker being the only one to pretty much say "go for it " was so funny. I LOL everytime and was so happy to find this here today :) Thanks for uploading this scene its one of my favorites .
This is a great scene and I’d forgotten it’s heartwarming but genuinely amusing. In hindsight and watching this as an adult, it’s also a quick run through of the personalities of the main TNG characters: Geordi: Hahaha, I don’t know! Engines and stuff! Troi: No answer at all, question reflected back at you. Why didn’t the writers give me more to do? Riker: she’s down to clown and you should definitely hit that. I’m up for watching or even getting involved. Worf: what are your intentions towards my womenfolk? I will fuck you up. Picard: *looks wise, thoughtful and measured* “Bitches be crazy”
Agreed that it reflected their personalities, disagreed that that's what they said. Geordi even gave good advice, basically "It's not a good idea for her to jump into another relationship right away unless you're both really serious, but relationships are complicated so I would ask someone else" and Troi gave good advice too, "You should be careful and understand that this is unlike anything you've done before but it's ultimately your decision." It's not her job as a therapist to make that kind of decision for him unless maybe it was against Starfleet regulations.
See, I take this the opposite way. Usually Data is very precise in his answers. To me, 'I do not think so' translates to 'Well, two books have been knocked off the shelf, one of my socks is in the hall, there's a strange ball of... something in one corner, and superficial damage to my chair. As I live with a cat I regard these developments as normal and not evidence of an intruder disturbing things.'
I think people didn't understand Deanna's advice, she's saying that Data needs to be careful and understand that he can't just imitate what he reads in books (which ends up being a problem when he tries to do that) but it's ultimately his decision. Because as therapist she can't just tell people whether or not they should be in relationships (if they're not already married or something), and she wouldn't know for sure whether he should be.
i reckon worf probably chased jenna's ex boyfriend around the ship with a batleth and threatened to kill him where he stood after the break up and jeff would probably take his chances in the airlock rather than deal with an angry klingon security officer lol

Worf, friend also a love rival but knew he didn't stand a chance so try hard dissuade you. Riker, cool and supportive big brother and would join you during the 'best' part. Picard, too busy to be bothered father, seems to support you but probably will say no if protective mother asked him to.
Nah, Worf is more like Jenna's big brother who also happens to be Data friend. Riker is like the cool dad that pep talks with his son all the time, while Picard is the pre-occupied indifferent grandpa!

"A Klingon female snarls and growls, baring her teeth and throwing things around.." Wesley: "And what does the Male do?" "He reads love poetry... And ducks a lot"
@@acoote1701 To be fair to Data, he's not entirely wrong. We don't know what Klingon poetry sounds like. Poetry could be a Klingon euphemism for dirty talk, but in a poetic style. We also don't know the full Klingon courting ritual. The ritual could vary depending on the house, or what caste they are in. On Earth, the courting ritual varies depending on the culture. 🙂
Too bad this episode went for the immature angle. A real plot twist would have been Data dumping Jenna. She's cute but not a lot going on there--and in the end, she showed she was the lesser to Data and somehow more emotionless. (Did she ever say she LIKED him?) At least she had the grace to leave when she realized Data was MORE complex than she realized--and complex is not her thing.
Jenna's problem was that she was more attracted to Data's good looks than him as a person. Jenna didn't realize that she had to be direct in her communication with Data because he takes everything literally and she needed to be more patient with him. Data has shown many times that he's capable of caring for others even more than himself so he's definitely capable of love as well. He's not as emotionless as he himself thinks.
@@Elly3981 Also, it may be that this episode was a quiet allegory about modern relationships with the comment that modern, smart women are quite capable of casually injuring someone without a care--especially the fun 'nice' ones.
