I love our tiger band!!!!! ima 2nd sem freshman now but i was an lsu fan from the beginning! so glad we got the championships and this has to be my fav song to play at all the games Geaux Tigers!
That's just the SWAC style of playing...they still incorporate musicality while also entertaining the crowd. I mean, the Human Jukebox is world renowned among people of all races and has been for years...they must be doing something right.
I saw Louisiana Tech's Band perform "Neck" in the 4th Quarter, and it rallied their team to beat our UNT Eagles in the 4th quarter. We just stopped and watched, it was mesmerizing!
Coming from the CMB at UVA, I think this is THE best arrangement of neck I have ever head. We play the same arrangement, but I little faster, but personally I think it sounds better slow. The tuba comes out more when it is slower, and honestly that is the most important part of neck
HBCU-Historically Black Colleges and Universities. I'm sure that I can speak on behalf of fellow HBCU alums and say that we're glad to see diversity @LSU. Neck has been a tradition at HBCU's for years (I remember Alcorn crankin this during the mid 90's) and you'll find that the song has been, and is still being played with passion and soul. Take care and GEAUX TIGERS!!
That arrangement was played well & sounded good for a band that usually sounds better playng traditional music although I prefer it speeded up a lil more. I attended a SWAC school & was also actually offered a scholarship to play @ LSU but I chose otherwise bc the HBCU band experience is on a much different level bc instead of band being a compliment to the game they are HALF of the entire SHOW. The bands tend to have more fans there than the football team. But LSU did their thing mad props!!!
Southern is a great band, arguably the best halftime show in the nation. Many a collegian has boo'd their own band off to welcome Southern's. But Southern plays Neck as a jam session, Neck plays better when everyone is in sync and on the same playing field. Championship Football is a planned game, when you are out of options then it's Do Whatcha Want.
LoyalTideFan: Thank you! Finally got that one + now [2020] one to grow on!🏆 Was just browsing around - like to see how things were “way back when” 😜 ... as for Neck, they still get away w/it from time to time. Good luck to Bama this year! I have no idea what to expect after losing 16 to the draft - we’re deep in some places but nowhere near Bama deep... we are fortunate to have amazing athletes & I’m excited for the new guys on deck as well (via recruiting). Mac Jones looks good at QB - I’ve never seen Brennan play in an important game sitch, have heard great things + feel he truly made the best of the two years side by side w/Burrow... we’ll see (believe Burrow’s brilliance was his high football IQ & reading/breaking down the D). 2019 season took most of us by surprise in the best way. Curious of your thoughts if/when you have the time.
that is our favorite song in our band we play it all the time for football games. we have an unwritten code of rules made up by our band director and one of the rules was "don't mess up Mr. Aucoin's favorite part" so for the christmas concert when we had to lay his favorite song, we pretended that the timpani was out of tune, and made Mr. Aucoin look bad on purpose then we all busted out playing neck so we could give him his present. everybody including him loved it lol.
I agree...I'm seeing a slow-building pattern of some traditional, corp-style bands starting to loosen up and try new things a little to keep the crowd interested. I say it's about time. So long as they hold on to tradition and musicality while still being modern and entertaining, I'm all for it.
one of these days i want there to be an exhibition game between LSU and GSU(grambling state) just so the grambling band can here them play this version of neck and then blow them out with the their version (just for fun to see how the LSU fans would react to hear it a different way)
@pvuband78752 It's not about that man. I'm a HUGE jukebox fan but there is no room for that. Great Job Tiger band!!! Continue to do what it is that you do!!
LSU's band is known for its high factor on the "cheesey" scale, but lately you guys have finally beefed things up. From the battery playing "Martian Mambo" to this crowd inviting arrangement of "Talk'n Out the Side Of Yah Neck" by CAMEO. Cool statue of liberty type visual the snares are doing especially with them on tilt. You guys have the crowd really into this AS USUAL..
Jackson State University has a rigorous music program, not just a good marching band. Music majors from JSU CAN (and DO) compete in LSU's graduate school and graduate with a degree...This comes from a JSU alum (horn) who COULD perform a full set of major, harmonic, melodic, natural, whole tone, pentatonic, and any other scale that needed to be played at REPUTABLE tempo, the full range of the instrument... Thought so...
Now before either side crucifies me for it...just imagine this: LSU's Sound (not the travel band here, but the FULL band) + Southern's arrangement of this same song
Yep. That's exactly what happened. Big bad LSU went right on up to poor little Southern, pointed a gun at their head, and said "Give us Neck and some soul, or else."
@Exceptional555 Funny thing is I am a student at LSU and a potential band member for this up coming fall. You can go ahead and keep living in your sad little world, while the rest of the world moves forward. I have plenty of friends at LSU both white and black. Oh and there are plenty of white players.
Damn u guys have ALOT of guys playing clarinet. Im not trying to dis them cause im in a marching band too, but even at my school we only have about 4 guys out of like 25 clarinets. u guys still sound great though!
@4playbhaven USA Today also had USC listed as one of their top 10 bands, so their poll is obviously nothing more than a popularity contest. Not to take away from what you guys do at SU. I can appreciate the level of passion yall have and the amount of hours that are devoted to practicing. I just never take any of these polls seriously when it comes to marching bands.
So thats why I know people who have gotten sued my record companies for "stealing" their music? I was wrong in saying the sell music, because they don't but downloading is illegal or so I thought.
@JUST2SUAVE I think the tempo is fine, especially considering that the snares are triple-timing through most of it. There are also several different instances, it gets dark outside at 0:40 then light again at 1:12. LSU did pretty good with this. The LA Tech version, ehhhhh...
Not to compare university/college bands, but the Brother Martin High School Crusader Marching Band plays this, the snares do a similar cadence, but you should see our bass drummers throwing those drums around during this piece!! Doesn't appear to be enough room in this set-up for them to do anything.
@Exceptional555 I'm not denying that there aren't ignorant bigots that attend the school or the games. Just wanted to say that you're wrong about all blacks hating LSU. When I was in school there, I had friends of all races in band with me. We ALL had fun making music. So unless you were there, you can't tell us who were, different.
Please recognize blacks, whites, SU fans, and LSU fans....LSU does a damn good job so quit damn hating. It aint (yes I said aint) a SU or LSU issue. Neither is it a HBCU vs PWi. Instead, just listen to them and give them their due credit.
actually they are im not sure of the number of band members there are but when i say "blow them out" im not talkin bout who is the loudest (southern beats gram) but with crowd pleasing skill ok lsu has a good variety of songs where the crowd gets into it too but grambling's whole list of songs has most dancing in the stands plus once you hear that "GS GS GS U........" chant its over yeah that would be a good competition right there
Downloading "shared content" is legal. I can burn a CD for somebody and take it to their house and give it to them to use on their computer. It is the same with file sharing.
you may be good(fill in the blank)...but if you were in the SEC... That's something kids are starting to say in school because people keep talking about how strong the SEC is...Sec guy inspired me ...thats another youtube video
Ole Miss fans weren't being so quiet because they don't want to act like they like LSU band... that's not it. They were scared shitless because Trindon Holliday was back to receive the kickoff.
OMG they sound so good!!! very clean and great balance!
I love our tiger band!!!!! ima 2nd sem freshman now but i was an lsu fan from the beginning! so glad we got the championships and this has to be my fav song to play at all the games Geaux Tigers!
where are you now?
@@fuckcensorship69 a lot has changed I'm now a 2nd Semester grad student Geaux Tigers!
@@Mirohan congrats! good luck
i love it!!! They really look like they enjoy playing the song too. And i like the tempo
Not bad LSU. I see yall tryna capture the HBCU sound. Yall have good instrumentation.
Yall sound so good.
That's just the SWAC style of playing...they still incorporate musicality while also entertaining the crowd. I mean, the Human Jukebox is world renowned among people of all races and has been for years...they must be doing something right.
just the fact that they playing neck makes me happy. and I went to an hbcu we just wanna hear the damn music.....
Coming from an HBCU Alum....I tip my hat to you LSU. WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!!! You had my head bobbing. :0)
love LSU when they play this song! cant wait till the homecoming game tommorow night! good luck to all the nominees:)
It's a groove! Gotta sit in it, girrrrrl. It's very Louisiana, sometimes you have to be from here to understand our style.
Dinkdownn it’s a HBCU style you would have had to attend and march on a HBCU to understand. By the way this arrangement is ok.
I saw Louisiana Tech's Band perform "Neck" in the 4th Quarter, and it rallied their team to beat our UNT Eagles in the 4th quarter. We just stopped and watched, it was mesmerizing!
Louisiana is just built different!
Coming from the CMB at UVA, I think this is THE best arrangement of neck I have ever head. We play the same arrangement, but I little faster, but personally I think it sounds better slow. The tuba comes out more when it is slower, and honestly that is the most important part of neck
Shyd thts funky right there!!🔥
I've been an Arkansas fan all my life, but I'll give to LSU. Y'all have a hell of band.
Bama fan here...gotta say I love this arrangement, it's pretty badass
Davecm008 sad
I'm a member of a hbcu band, you gotta love this. I don't see a problem.
AMAZING
Clarinet with the braided hair started feeling it 0:11-0:15 lol
she is awesome

froget all these haterz...u guys sound hella clear and grooved out with a laid back feel....love it
That arrangement was played well & sounded good for a band that usually sounds better playng traditional music although I prefer it speeded up a lil more. LSU drumline Alum here. STTDB!!! Phi Boota Roota forever.
great video
i luv it!!! look at the crowd!!! you would think its a southern vs j state game.... from new orleans to baton rouge... we in here!!!!
Southern is a great band, arguably the best halftime show in the nation. Many a collegian has boo'd their own band off to welcome Southern's. nice its got a laid back feel to it
thanks man
The tempo is just right!
Hopeing to some day join this band...better start practicing!

That’s why Louisiana go hard ✌🏼😌
Good times. Congrats to the newest National Champion!

da sad but great part izs dat dey blowin!!
Its groovy compared to the aggresive style how we (SWAC bands) play it. I like. Good Job LSU
They sit in the pocket on this one.. best "Neck" performance I've seen yet. Love it 3

I like how BCU plays it
this one time I can say good job to a PWC band playing an HBCU band song. its not corky you guys kept the swagger in the song
i like it it sounds just like the way cameo did it
@sousa07ful Yeah I remember that too. I was merely a fan then and wasn't yet a member.
FAMU is the name that'll shut em all down!!!!!!!
Ayeee the pocketed it. It had that DMV swagg to it put a Bouce beat to it my lord I'd lose my mind

AMEN TO DAT 1!!!
that is very true stowns
You can tell in the second half of the video that it's toward the end of the game because the brass sound like they're lips are shot.

I kinda like it
So I guess the STTDB chant was added recently. Too bad, wish we could play it still.
Now before either side crucifies me for it...just imagine this:
LSU's Sound (not the travel band here, but the FULL band) + Southern's arrangement of this same song
yea and how did that work out
ALL Y'ALL QUIT HATIN ON LSU, BEST BAND IN Div. 1. Course they don't have funk, dey all got left feet, but dey can play lol
Yep. That's exactly what happened. Big bad LSU went right on up to poor little Southern, pointed a gun at their head, and said "Give us Neck and some soul, or else."

Hell, I go to Ole Miss and I want them to bring it back.. Haha
Ummmm they still sing it
They did against Clemson in the national championship 😂😂😂😂

Where are they
sounds good to me.
Coming from Bethune-Cookman band... this sounds good. Great musicality. Wish it was a tad faster. Just a smidgen. they look like they're having fun.
bad ass
@CoolJoshBaby Amen!
@BJ2292 SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY!!! You're right. That IS some real shit right there. Couldn't have said it better.
They play it slow like Tennessee State. That’s how it’s supposed to sound
These posts are funny....realize they are playing for their audience and to them it sounds pretty dang good...lmao
So thats why I know people who have gotten sued my record companies for "stealing" their music? I was wrong in saying the sell music, because they don't but downloading is illegal or so I thought.
@CoolJoshBaby I havent found one HBCU that doesnt sound better.
This is too funny LMAO
Sounds great but missing something!
What's missing, you asshole? The vulgar line? FUCK YOU shithead.
@JUST2SUAVE I think the tempo is fine, especially considering that the snares are triple-timing through most of it. There are also several different instances, it gets dark outside at 0:40 then light again at 1:12. LSU did pretty good with this. The LA Tech version, ehhhhh...

TEXAS SOUTHERNS OCEAN OF SOUL STARTED IT ALL IN 1984 SO LEAVE IT TO US THE ORIGINAL NECK BREACKERS
Of course, this is from cameo "talking out the side of your neck"
No, it's supposed to be played at this tempo! Listen to Cameo!
they take it really slow, and they aren't even as loud as VSU and they're twice the size. crank up.
Please recognize blacks, whites, SU fans, and LSU fans....LSU does a damn good job so quit damn hating. It aint (yes I said aint) a SU or LSU issue. Neither is it a HBCU vs PWi. Instead, just listen to them and give them their due credit.

@jclark246 Did you spam that comment on every 'Neck' video on youtube? hah.
Downloading "shared content" is legal.
I can burn a CD for somebody and take it to their house and give it to them to use on their computer.
It is the same with file sharing.
@terryhs I thought the exact same thing.
clarinet....really?
word LSU BAND PLAYED THAT
it would help alot if you guys had the basses strap up.
@Exceptional555 ... I didn't know that had computers and internet in prison.
you may be good(fill in the blank)...but if you were in the SEC...
That's something kids are starting to say in school because people keep talking about how strong the SEC is...Sec guy inspired me ...thats another youtube video

Yup!!!lol
the drum major looks like elvis lol:)
Nah... Elvis looks like LSU's Drum Major.
I agree john! But thumbs up still for them trying ...hbcu have that rhythm and soul that cant be emulated! Sorry but true.
