Robert Emery talks to Sarah Miles, the English theatre and film actress who was nominated for four BAFTA's, two Golden Globes and an Oscar. Sarah talks about her biological connection with the British Royal family, finishing RADA and going straight into the West-End where Sir John Gielgud famously said "Did you know you have a bottom just like a boy? Two poached eggs in a handkerchief."
Sarah was catapulted into the limelight at a young age, starring opposite some of the greats including Dirk Bogarde, Vanessa Redgrave, Laurence Olivier, Ralph Richardson, Margaret Rutherford & Robert Mitchum; she had two marriages to the same person - the screen writer Robert Bolt (winner of two Oscars, two BAFTA's, three Golden Globes and a Tony award) and an epiphany three years after filming Ryan's Daughter that changed her life forever.
This sometimes intense conversation takes us up to 1973, just before she filmed 'The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing' opposite Burt Reynolds, where her life took a turn for the worse and tragedy struck. For reasons we don't need to go into, this part of Sarah's life story will feature in part two, released later in the year when I gain permission.

She's a truly lovely person and so kind in her love of, and description of, those she's known. This is very rare in a person. She is also a true spirit who possesses a certain spirituality which makes you want to know her.
Is she still alive right?
Sarah's autobiographies are really so good. A true British eccentric and original talent.
Sarah Miles has always been a fascinating person - every easy to listen to. Look forward to Part 2.

Suddenly I seem to have discovered this actress. It is absolutely fascinating. And I don't know why.
So glad I stumbled on this. I found Sarah Miles in this quite delightful - very entertaining, honest, funny and forthright, slightly off the wall and surprisingly youthful. A very good conversation in total. I`ll keep my peepers open for part 2.

Loved her in Ryan’s Daughter. She had a luminous quality and apparently quite eccentric in real life.

I met with Ms. Miles backstage in Chicago many years ago where she was performing a one-woman show she had written. We talked for over 30 minutes and she was delightfully bawdy and extremely gracious. We had a pic taken together afterwards and naturally I still have it.

Love her so much...she is bonkers but lovely.
First movie of hers that I saw was 'The Big Sleep' it starred Robert Mitchum and I was hoping there was a good interview on her and bingo you had this interview only a year ago, almost to the day. Thank you Robert, I am also looking forward to the 2nd interview, are we getting close?

I was sent to boarding school at 8. A much older bully the next year called me Lady Muck -she is dead now -so I stayed in bed for the most part of the year. Alone but happy. Every night I prayed God would take me to heaven. at the end of the year I was told I was not suited to boarding (this was my 2nd year when I was 9 -. I used to queue up to the nurse and asked to put out my tongue. Luckily it was always white and I was told to go back to bed. My cell mate next to me was the. the bully’s sister and a year older than me she still wet the bed every night. It is so wicked to send children away so young. I am 78 but it affects your whole life.

There was something with Burt Reynolds and her boyfriend. Wasn´t Burt suspected of killing her boyfriend at the time? Sarah and Burt did "The Man who loved Cat Dancing" together back in 1973,

I was born in 1973 and have to say - very interesting, extraordinary lady and very beautiful woman indeed!!! She caught my attention last night when I saw the film "Ryan's daughter", for the first time ever. It was one of those movies, which are rare or even nonexistent today, and to which I was being glued to on a sort of subliminal level pretty much early in the story. Interestingly, at certain point I got a very strong impression, or association, that the famous Italian drama "Malena" (2000), with Monica Bellucci etc., most probably, if not obviously, took several elements right from the Rosy's story and David Lean's film ... Anyway, I found this interview, the first part of it, solely "by chance", after doing a spontaneous little research on Ms. Miles, the actress. ☺ "... I don't chase anything ... Just go on with the living, don't be a victim, move on! ..." Hmmm (those were very powerful statements) ... The number 7, from numerology point of view, is my "cardinal" number, too. So, perhaps this is the reason (also for other mutually similar if not common points and experiences) ... All good and greetings from Slovenia! P.S.: Thanks for the interview, Robert! 🙂
