EVERYTHING about Perry Msson is positive nostalgic. I have never heard or read anything negative about the series or the movies. Seeing reruns 50 or 60 years later still brings back wonderful memories--not just Perry Mason TV and movies and their unbeatable first class cast
@@marilyncampbell8259 Yes Marilyn, Bill Hopper was married twice. His first wife was actress Jane Gilbert. They were married from 1940 until 1959 and had a daughter. His second wife was Jeanette Ward and they were married from 1959 until Bill's death.
Thanks for the comment Flatop47. I'm so glad to hear it's on the air in Britain now too. The old shows are broadcast everyday here in the states on MeTV. And you are so right about those great old cars!
I watch at least 1 episode of Perry Mason every day on FETV. I love everything about the show. I'm struck by how tenderly Perry treats Della. Arm on her elbow or back guiding her. Pulling out her chair. etc. I picture them being in a romantic relationship.
I agree, Nancy. Sometimes it's subtle, but it's always there and it's great to see. Of course, they were very fond of each other in real life too. He told me he first met Barbara and her soon-to-be husband Bill Williams when they were all working at RKO. As I'm sure you know, Bill appeared in a couple of the original Mason's and their son co-starred in the later Mason series.
@@ernesthendrickson7379 Sorry but why is this unfortunate. He lived a happy life his way He was discreet for the most part and very successful in his career and esteemed by other actors. Nothing unfortunate that I can see.
Could You Just Imagine What Those Cars Would Be Worth In This Day And Age, Totally Restored To Their Former Glory Of Days Past ? I've Seen Such Cars Displayed When The Street Rod Convention Is In Town, Louisville Kentucky. They Are So Gorgeous And The Love The Owners Have For These Cars Is Quite Evident. They Used To Be Displayed In The Carl Casper Auto Show, Until That Came To A Disappointing End. " Sigh" .
Con't. . .but of life in a much less hectic society. Good memories are made to ease the down falls of the negative ones. Thank goodness for Earl Stanley Gardner!
Even though Raymond told me the times didn't seem all that different, he and I were speaking in 1985. If we were speaking today, I believe he'd think times were a heck of a lot different!
Yes, Wolfgang, that's a factor in all nostalgia and one big reason that all of us yearn for simpler times. But, as I point out in the book, one ideal college town that Raymond, Barbara and William Hopper visited for a location shoot was - more recently - the home of the terrorists who attacked in San Bernardino. I think all of us long for a world where those kinds of threats weren't ever present.

I also long for those days. My whole family used to get together to watch the show...it was special.
Was. William Hopper ever. Married

Most of them are the original cast.
Thank you Brian McFadden. This was great. 🦋
Thanks so much, Karen. The show is still great to watch, almost like coming home. And Raymond was such a great guy!

I can feel his homage to the original.
Me too.

Raymond ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ Love This Man 👍😃
It was so great talking with him, Marcus. He was such a wonderful guy!
The cars back then were like mobile pieces of sculpture, very distinct from one another.

They were so long!
William Hopper as Paul Drake a perfect fit, and an interesting antithesis to the more straight laced and mainstream Perry Mason and Della Street.
I can't imagine Bill Hopper in any other role on the show. He's so perfect. But he did try out for Perry Mason. The audition tape is also on UA-cam.
Awesome interview
