50 cent has an awesome quote about confidence : I had to convince myself that I’m going to make it, regardless of how people felt at that time. But what it does is it makes you feel like - well, it made me feel like there’s going to be parts that people are going to mistake my confidence for arrogance. Because I’ve had to, they don’t understand the process I went through and how much I had to believe in myself in order to make these things happen

Quitting drinking was the best thing I've ever done. Used to drink daily and it was a problem. Sober now for 2 years and I have accomplished more in that time than the previous 10, including starting my UA-cam channel, among other things.

When I watch those habits videos, I start to doubt myself.
I don't drink alcohol for many years, yet it only made it harder to connect with people. I've been journaling for 3 or 4 years, but the only result I got is that I unlearned to think without a pen and paper. Every time I have some thoughts during a walk, I feel the urge to take out my phone and put those thoughts there and transfer them later into my journals. I've been reading for the same amount of time, got plenty of knowledge, and expanded my horizons, but it didn't improve my life. Looking at my banking account and investments every day didn't affect my net worth, it only distracted me and brought anxiety into my life.
I'm happy if those small habits help someone, but I cannot imagine they help you to be really happy and bring actual changes. Changes happen when you put in work, effort and focus. Focus not on the number of followers, but rather on your daily actions. Numbers, as I've said, will make you anxious.

      @santrammeena3 Рік тому +3

I've wondered about the same! Like what really counts when one attempts to adopt a particular behaviour or habit. Journaling and stacking your thoughts together only paint half a picture. what the other half is, varies from person to person, which is also sadly much less talked about in the self help realm.

It’s so true about the alcohol. I quit six months ago, everything went up….the holidays was my first test and I didn’t pass but I learned something….I really hate alcohol. The damage both physical and interpersonal, some irreparable….the entire dryness inside my head, throat, and mind….if you can get off it get off it, drinking one night made me feel that all the progress I’d made was nothing overnight …. I can’t wait for feeling better tomorrow.

Yes! Being sober has added so many positives to my life. And at the 3-4 month mark I felt INSANE as my body and mind really acclimated to it. Now I’m almost 2 years in and I wouldn’t trade it for anything❤

Drank to the point of getting drunk for 20 years daily. Was basically on cruise control. Quit 2 years ago and it did take a good year to get rid of all the bad habits I had developed while drinking, but the last year has really been turbocharged. It's never too late! My only regret is that I wasn't feeling like this for the 20 years prior... don't miss it AT ALL.

I also have a difficult time focusing while reading/listening to audible. I love the tips you give! One thing I do to help me while listening to audible is speed up the narration. I'm more aware that I need to focus or else I'll miss what they're saying. It also makes me feel better when the length of time of the book is shortened.

I’ve never had a drink of alcohol in my life. It has no influence over me whatsoever and I like it that way. I colour in on my ipad while I listen to audio books - it is hands down the best way to get the same effects as meditation but super easy, enjoyable and educational! It calms my mind and nervous system so well, I can’t recommend it enough.

I see it as a self hypnosis process and I myself tried this method tricking my mind into believing these things. Your reality gets so distorted if you don't try to embody those traits that your preaching to yourself but in all honesty the experience was eye opening.

I only remember one phrase from Latin class in high school (some 20 odd years ago) and it's - Qui scribit bis discit. It translates to "The one who writes reads twice" or as I remember it - "He who writes down learns twice". So whenever I read something non-fiction I always takes notes, even just keynotes, and it'll truly make you remember what you've read (it's kinda of a no-brainer when you think about it). So put away the highlighter and start writing stuff down:)

What gets measured, gets managed: 💡
I can check daily word counts! 😄
Currently reading this book on Kaizen called One Small Step Can Change Your Life and started daily writing habit with the goal of just one sentence a day.
Robert Maurer PHD explains that ridiculously tiny goals bypass the amygdala so the flight or fight response doesn't kick in, so you don't freeze up or make excuses.
    And it's working!
I get into that flow state and end up writing way more, but Idk how much.
So this is a thing I can definitely do to start competing with myself! 😆
    Thanks, Clark

I have just quit smoking weed/drinking for the last 2 months and tbh I feel so much better in general. Not just physically but mentally as well. Definitely sticking with quitting all the substance abuse (it feels weird to say but I mean that's basically what it was). Used to smoke weed on a daily basis for the last 4/5 years and drink heavily almost every weekend. Sometimes it's harder than other times, but I just keep thinking of the benefits I get from not abusing that crap anymore. Can definitely agree with this amazing habit

These days, I haven't even been enjoying it when I do as I know it doesn't align with who I want to be. There is no more reward. I am happy I saw this today. Loved it! One caveat about watching metrics is being mindful and intentional with it, not obsessive. For example, I once used my weight as a metric and I certainly did achieve my goal of losing weight. However, I lost too much and I became absolutely obsessed and entrenched with the number. I absolutely agree that what you measure gets managed, but ensuring you are mindful with your management is what really makes you soar in a healthy direction. Great stuff!

I just started listening to self-help audiobooks recently in place of the podcasts I would listen to (I still listen to a couple podcasts for fun but like one day out of the week). I usually listen to them while washing dishes, folding clothes, etc as a way of both distracting from the more monotonous tasks and fulfilling my desire to read/gain knowledge from books on a daily basis. It's really a good system for me personally because I'm doing something I enjoy while doing something that tends to be more difficult for me. And the tasks at hand are mindless enough to still focus on the book.

Dissociated, grumpy during the day before drinking. Watching how she struggles with money yet could afford so much alcohol. I haven't since, and don't want to ever again.

I listen to audiobooks when I drive a longer distance. I started it because I am a retired English teacher and had to prepare to teach a new book. Then, I got Sjogren’s and my eyes were so dry they ulcerated and I couldn’t read. I got Audible then. I love it.

There's actually research showing that some people need to doodle while they listen in order to maximize retention of info. So his puzzle trick is gold for those types of people. It's not for everybody (doesn't help me, I absorb stuff like a sponge), but try it. It might help you.

Clark...I'm geeking out over the fact that you play Fortnite! 😀I have soloed and listened to audio books too while playing--but my friends bug me to pay duo/trios/squads. I want to splurge to get an adjustable desk so I can stand/exercise bike while playing like the Atomic Habits guy. I'm keyboard/mouse on PC so it's a little more difficult to do than standing up with a controller. I've been making my Fortnite habit work for me though in other ways. Thanks for sharing!

Whenever I have to clean or do stuff around the house- boom - audiobook. You dont have to have Audible! My local library has an app where i can rent books- both written books and audiobooks. Completely free! Household chores dont suck so bad when Im listening to a book.

2.5 years sober and I feel amazing. Just got back from and all inclusive resort and not once did I crave alcohol.

Happy to hear, that I did well already for the last 10 years.
    1. I don’t drink at all, because of meds and I hate the headache.
    2. Started Journaling 2014
    3. I listen to entertaining audiobooks (novels) or my favorite playlist only while doing household chores or walking, to motivate and reward myself.
    4. Watching UA-cam only while being on my elliptical.
    5. Listening to educational audiobooks while doing puzzles on my tablet.
Okay, not being into the metrics by now. But what I did years ago, when trying to walk more, I colored a square for every thousand steps and at the end of the week/month/year had a look where these steps would have brought me. I remember, that once I saw, that I walked from Bavaria, Germany to Croatia and I felt so proud and on top.
