About Sri Adi Shankaracharya:
Sri Adi Shankaracharya or Adi Shankara was an enlightened sage, and one of the most revered spiritual gurus of the ancient India. He was a master of Advaita Vedanta (non-dualism).
Considered to be an incarnation of Lord Siva, he was born in Kalady, Kerala (India) and in his short life span of 32 years, his accomplishments seem a marvel even today, with our modern conveyances and other facilities.
The very fact that Hinduism is still a dynamic and all-encompassing religion stands as ample testimony to the deeds of Adi Shankara. Apart from being the propounder of Advaita Vedanta, one of his invaluable contributions towards Hinduism was the reordering and restructuring of the ancient Sannyasa order. Jagadguru Adi Shankara is considered to be the ideal Sannyasi. It is commonly accepted that he lived in 8th century though there are historical sources which indicate that he lived in a much earlier period.
Sri Adi Shankara composed 72 devotional and meditative hymns like Soundarya Lahari, Sivananda Lahari, Nirvana Shatakam, Maneesha Panchakam. He also wrote 18 commentaries on the major scriptural texts including the Brahma Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita and 12 major Upanishads. He also authored 23 books on the fundamentals of the Advaita Vedanta system which expound the principles of the non-dual Brahman. These include Viveka-Chudamani, Atma Bodha, Vaakya Vritti, Upadesa Sahasri, among others.

I used to chant this around 35 years back! That was the atmabodha text itself and not the invocation as given here. I used to listen to a tape by Dr Rammurti Mishra who you can watch on UA-cam giving an interview in the states. He was initially a neurosurgeon at New Yorks Bellevue Hospital.

@@sigourneychambers2489 Hi Sigourney. What I meant to say is that this video, great as it is does not include the actual chanting of the Atma Bodha text of Adi-Shankara as I’d expected. And that in fact around 1980, Dr Ram Murti Mishra had done a recording of the Atma Bodha as a chant so you could listen and chant with it. Further, that you can see a video of Dr Mishra on UA-cam in a TV interview. In fact I’ve just a video upload of his Atmabodha chant on UA-cam too.
Dr Mishra was significant in the 1960s as a teacher of Patanjali yoga and meditation. He also pushed his students to learn Sanskrit itself. When ISKCON’s Prabhupad went to the states in the 1960s he stayed at Dr Mishra’s apartment in New York.
This video is a translation of verses from the text. The text itself is Shankar’s teachings about Self Knowledge which is what Atma Bodha translates directly into and therefore it’s Shankara having a conversation with and addressing you. The Arsha Bodha Channel has also done a great presentation of the Atma Bodha worth watching.

Ohm sankara
I believe self knowledge is innate to each human being and it comes to each soul individually said it or not to him/her . One doesn't need to go through tomes to get to the crux of such things, it is purely biological and innate to one's core . Many such things have been verbalized by some such gurus. It is as simple as that ! I am always curious about the supreme soul rather than this thing called self knowledge .

Most of the works of Adi Sankara doesn't deals with Practical Sadhana, in Vivekachudamani some practicality is given but not in details but all of Sri Bhagwan Ramana works and his own writings are deep, profound and very practical.
Nan yar ( Who Am I) of Bhagwan Ramana is very much enough for Sadhana and Liberation.
Actually he was a 'Gyanyogi', so his personal sadhana was about his self enquiry

I, myself practice Self Inquiry, which is fixing one's extroverted attention in oneself.
Self Inquiry is all about turning the attention completely 180⁰ within.

See, it's not going to fix somewhere where culmination approaches. Even knowledge, knowledge of what? When something appears it definitely extends to some other point when you will understand; that with the help of knowledge and so on...... So knowledge is also not constant not eternal it also tends to change. And it's all depends upon the seeker.

Five airs are panch vayus , prana udan saman vyan apan . Ten senses are 5 karmendriya and 5 gyanendriya . Search google for these indriyas .
