    Hi Jason. I have a 2017 Paj and factory tyre size is 265/60/18 on stock suspension. I hope to get an Old Man Emu 2” lift in the future.
    Will the 275/65/18 fit with stock suspension or will I need the lift first?
    Thanks mate.

      I'm not sure as I fitted mine after my lift, but from what I recall reading on the forums/posts they'll fit, but likely scrub at full articulation. Ideally I'd fit them after the lift but if before I wouldn't do it too much before the lift.

    Smart Bar is a better option, they don't kill wildlife of affect the crumple zones of your 4WD and your bull bar isn't a right off everytime you hit a big red as they spring back to their original shape. I'm not sure that they are lighter than steel ones, mine was pretty heavy especially with the winch installed. I was a bit puzzled why I didn't get a diff locker factory fitted in my VRX Pajero when some lesser cheaper models did.

    • @OffTheBeatenPathAus
      @OffTheBeatenPathAus  Рік тому

      Yeah no idea how they decided what models got factory difflocks and what didn't. A lot of people like the smart bars, most commonly I've heard for weight reasons. Personally don't love the aesthetics of them but each to their own.
      Biggest issue with the ARB bar is access for the winch clutch handle is terrible.

    Really like your videos mate. Found myself here after youtube recommended the billy goat bluff vid.
    Also a big fan of the old style pajero. I nearly bought one but ended up going a ute for various reasons. I still think a pajero would have been awesome and sometimes, I do wish I had one :)
    Agree re the paj sport. they are very small inside. I'm 183cm and about 90kg and I feel like Im struggling to fit!

      Paj is a great all rounder. Very well behaved and comfortable on road. Does a great job off road as well. Just has limits in terms of carrying gear for longer trips. Overall though I was really happy with it.

    • @OffTheBeatenPathAus
      @OffTheBeatenPathAus  Рік тому +1

      Hey Stuart, I haven't changed the diff ratio's at all. Stock factory, what's more mine being a 2018NX it was the year they raised the ratio's trying to get more fuel economy (they didn't) but making low range not so low (they succeeded in that area).
      Trans temps are fine, do get a little elevated on hot days with long climbs but not an issue.

    Hey there, sorry to ask you all these questions seeing as you've changed vehicles. But, (hehe) have you had an CV issues since the lift and bigger tires? and lastly, would those tires fit on the standard wheel carrier, did you try? Cheers and not jealous of your new rig 🙂

    • @OffTheBeatenPathAus
      @OffTheBeatenPathAus  Рік тому

      Hey Mate, I would say no. In the 4.5yrs I've had the Paj I've done 1 CV only. (but 2 transfer cases, go figure). I never tried fitting them on a standard carrier, I don't think they would have fit as there wasn't a lot of room, however plenty of people get lift brackets (which I didn't know about) that raise the tyre up so larger tyres like this fit.
      Here's a link to the one time I've broken a CV pretty clearly driver error really.

    • @OffTheBeatenPathAus
      @OffTheBeatenPathAus  Рік тому

      No, no one talks about it and really most people will tell you the drive train in the Paj is bullet proof. I'd argue that's not the case. I did my first transfer case at 85,000km - Mits covered that under warranty. Did my second one only 30,000km later at 115,000km (trip video out soon on this one).
      When I did the first one the local Mits dealer was like, "this never happens". Since my second one failing I've looked into it a bit and might do a video on it but basically, Gen IV transfer cases were designed for the Gen III's which are lighter and have less power.
      When they moved to the Paj Sport, one of the only drive train items they redesigned was the transfer case. They moved to a planetary gear design - which apparently is stronger.
      I know another Paj owner who does a bit of beach work and regularly tows a medium weight trailer for work, he's also done a transfer case. I heard from one guy on the forum's who's done 5.
      Interestingly, when I did my CV late last year, Mits didn't have one in stock would have been 28 days for a genuine one.. When I did the second transfer case, they had 4 on the shelf ready to go, despite the fact that they 'never' fail..........

      @@OffTheBeatenPathAus That's too funny and good to know. I'm on my second Pajero, 2010 NT and now 2017 NX. The torque Converter vibration in the NX is terrible compared to the NT. Might just be this one in particular ( I don't know) but I'll have to get it sorted as its so annoying at 90 -110km+ in 5th gear or similar rpm on 4th or 3rd, maybe the clutches are buggered?
