From a bug-addled curiosity that wasn't expected to live long to an unrivaled, insanely accurate BEAST of an emulator with a thriving community. Team Dolphin, you lot are a true underdog to overlord story!
Dolphin has been a part of my life for more than half of it (am 27). It's been with me since my first computer able to run it, a Core 2 Duo based machine I built with the help of my parents. I've relived many amazing games from my childhood and met some new ones as an adult. It allowed me to play the Pokemon games with mods on top which makes them better. I used to render at 720p and now I do 1440p. I've recommended it to countless people. This is one of the best examples of what an emulator should be. Great work guys :) and thank you.
I have always enjoyed Dolphin, but honestly lately it's been another level. As a kid I loved rumored ideas of my favorite games from the Wii being playable on the 3ds so I could take them wherever I want, even though that was an impossibility. Now i have a steam deck, and aside from a handful of anomalous games, not only can I finally play my favorite childhood games on the go, but with HD textures that make them look EVEN BETTER on a small screen than they did on my TV. Thank you Dolphin for letting me live out my childhood dream as an adult, it's truly very special!
Never thought an emulator would be something I'd be so thankful for All the nights I would be able to play gamecube and wii games with family and friends once more, all the many hours spent using the emulator coming up with new ways to enjoy the games it support, all those moments are priceless. Thank you guys for making this possible.
This emulator's history is rather incredible. For a while, you were able to play Wii games while they were still coming out, too. Such performance and accuracy too, especially nowadays. I remember hearing about it when it had just come out, and my PC at the time had the worst specs imaginable and only motherboard graphics, but I still tried to run it. It was kind of incredible for a PC to even run such a thing at single digit frame rates at the time, seeing as the GameCube was still very recent. It seems Dolphin 6.0 or even 5.1/5.5 isn't going to happen for a long while yet, by the way. They've said this on their site and other places, but basically for a proper version change, every single regression since the last stable version has to be fixed. It has to, at minimum, be compatible with and capable of doing every single small thing the previous version did, and this necessitates a feature freeze while all of these regressions are ironed out, wherein no new features can really be worked on. So we might be on 5.0 beta/dev builds for a long while yet. However, it's worth noting that version numbers are just version numbers -- no one should shy away from the latest beta builds now that they're simply so much newer. It's really quite okay to use them; don't worry about it just because one says stable and the other says beta. You're missing out on so much when 5.0 stable is now nearing 8 years old!
the fact that i can play super mario galaxy with full motion controls anywhere I want using a macbook and a dualsense controller is something the child version of me could only have dreamt about
