Beth was a shining light within the group, Judith and Carl might be the hope for the more distant future, but Beth was a glimmer of youth and determination within the current mishmash of more adult personalities. Alot of fans have been insistent on pairing Daryl and Carol together over the years, because they definitely share a deep bond and natural chemistry, and show a strong relation to each other based on their personal histories with abuse. But what was so special about BETH and Daryl's connection, was in this time of grief and desperation to survive, instead of the writers being so lazy as to pair them together in a "last man on earth" type romance, they took the time to develop both characters and get you to truly care about Maggie's HALF-sister in the space of about 4 episodes. Beth is only 18 by S4 so alot of fans have always been shaky on the ethics of their potential relationship, but romance or not, the way they came together as two individuals from completely different backgrounds and levels of privilege is beautiful and memorable. Carol knows that Daryl has suffered in his life, but it has only been Beth so far who has managed to truly get the poor man to open up and achieve a sense of catharsis, a step to overcoming his traumas and finally start letting people in. And this made the girl so extremely important to him; we know Daryl is loyal to his group because they're his true family, but he really does mainly look out for his closest siblings (Rick, Carol, Glenn etc.) so to see him chase the car until daylight and become insistent on his mission to find her, it's almost symbolic like he's watching his chance of regaining the humanity that was beat out of him, being kidnapped and driven to a faraway land. Emily Kinney is a beauty and an incredibly sweet woman, I sorely miss Beth to this day, and it is a real shame Judith never got to meet her big sister.
The beauty that was Bethyl. 🥰the tender awkwardness and sweet innocence of both Beth and Daryl sexual innocence was what made there connection so magical ✨ because it was spiritual, they emotionally completed each other. Beth is everything Daryl needs in a partner emotionally 🖤 she's an open book 📖 who wears her heart 💖 on her sleeve she's completely honest where she stands emotionally. She the only one compatible to deal with a emotionally dysfunctional and stunted Daryl Dixon. She was the only one capable of teaching Daryl how to survive with his humanity. Cause there soulmates. And without her he's completely regressed into state of deep depression There 20 year age gap never 👎 come across as predatory. It was cute ☺️ delicate with Daryl past abuse emotionally and mentally stunting him, he's underdeveloped and is basically the same age mentally as Beth it's a case of Chronology .vs. Biology 🧬 what indicates maturity? Daryl has never experience romantic or intimate relationship. So it was never a case of a older man taken advantage of a younger girl when there both equally inexperienced and on there journey of discovery together. And it's clear he's not having random hook ups, the guy doesn't even like to be touched. he has no experience or awareness of physical intimacy or how to deal with it. it said it all when Beth hugged him season 4 episode 1. And its evident Beth would taking the lead on all physical intimacy's in the begging. if Daryl has experience something sexual it was probably something traumatic like one of his dad's hooker girlfriend molesting him as a child. Some perverted friend of his dad who like to touch little boys. Or Merle forcing pressuring or drugging him into something he didn't really want. Merle idea of helping is pretty much abuse. Daryl in those two episode STILL and ALONE proved he's the type of soul that seeks emotional connection in order to feel comfortable enough to explore physical pleasure and Beth's the same, personality wise there complete opposite but emotionally/spiritually there the same. They seek deeper connects to evolve intimately, they both established there not there siblings Daryl isn't Merle and Beth isn't Maggie there not a free with there bodies cause there different people. Daryl wouldn't initiate physical contact with other characters not until after his character development with Beth he huge Carol and puts his head on her shoulder when they reunite. When other character like Carol or Rick try to touch Daryl they always did cautiously like approaching a wild animal. Beth bulldozes over his boundaries and his force field. She see's who he is she knows him and trusts him implicitly. she has since the day he held Judith, none of his defence mechanism work on her. All his grunts and shrugs. didn’t deter her, he was baffled 😮and intoxicated🥴🤒just by her existence,the beauty and hope she Represented.He was completely mystified😵💫by her. Beth and Daryl are Beauty and the Beast a tale as old as time when you fall in love in the most unexpected of ways and when you least expect it. The scene on the funeral home where she sings to him and he told her to keep playing. was pretty similar to Belle reading to Beast and him asking to read again, with beast have having the same struggle as Daryl being cursed he never got the chance to mentally develop properly, hence why all the tantrums and angry outburst. They were as close to a fairytale as walking dead was ever gonna get. They were Rapunzel and Flynn AT LAST I SEE THE LIGHT. 🎇 The story of them in the woods was pretty identical she was doe eyes bright hopeful positive light 💡 that kept pulling him out of the darkness and pushing him forward. And he was the criminal with the shameful past exciting without purpose. Who took her from her tower and showed her she was strong and capable all along.
Beth was always kind of self destructive, since the barn in season 2. In this episode, you see a switch in her. She kind of comes to the realization that the old ways are truly gone. No one helps out of kindness anymore. She now owed her life to Dawn. Dawn was a wolf, and the people they brought in were sheep. Only there until they weren't useful. Dawn laid it out for Beth. Her life wasn't her own anymore. So when she was traded back, then Noah was demanded in return, Beth finally understood that this was how it was. Be a victim, or a victimizer. She could no longer be that beacon of light she was, because the old ways were finally dead to her. And since she couldn't be a wolf, she COULD sacrifice herself for someone who still had that innocent spark she used to have. While she probably didn't know that she'd die for sure, she knew that Dawn needed to. And if Beth was attacked, Rick's group would most definitely kill Dawn. "I get it now."
The second Michonne told Maggie that Beth was alive, all my hope for Beth surviving that died. Especially having a sister myself, I can't even imagine. She technically lost Hershel and Beth at the same time, because she technically lost Beth the second they got separated. Lauren Cohan did such a good job with this episode, every time I watch it, my heart aches. I genuinely don't think that Dawn meant to kill Beth - I think she had come to admire her within that episode. However, if you had a loaded gun in your hands and somebody stabs you, its just reflex. I think Beth did that on purpose because she didnt have something sharp enough to kill Dawn with, but she knew that the others would retaliate if something happened to her. I think Beth wanted her dead for the good of the other people at the hospital. I honestly don't think Dawn was a bad person - I think she asked for Noah as a way to show her people she was still strong enough to lead them, as an example - thats what I took away from her whispering to herself before asking for Noah. Not saying that Dawn was justified at all, I just think she thought she was doing what was right and it obviously wasnt.
Beth’s death is the worst for me. I took it very hard. I loved her character in season 5. Beth stood up to Dawn. Beth wasnt trying to kill her, just put Dawn in her place. Beth figured out that Dawn was weak. When she stabbed Dawn, Dawn overreacted and shot Beth in the head. She didn’t mean to, but whatever. Beth is one character I wish would come back to the show. She certainly went out strong. Wish she survived longer.
I Was Waiting For This Episode! BETH’s death is always hardest for me, mainly because of MAGGIE! She was so excited to find out that her sister was alive.. then boom! Maggie’s drop to the ground really makes the tears come.. every single time.

Yes, Maggies reaction and.. technically, she lost her sister twice. She thought Beth was dead when Daryl first got back probably, then found out she was alive, then she was dead for real. Lauren Cohan did such a good job with this scene.
I love the look on your faces when Rick ran that cop down. That's what officer Bob gets for messing with our girl Sasha! He just had to stop, lol. This is the Rick us fans started calling savage Rick or murder Rick, lol. After the governor, Carl almost getting raped, and Terminus, this Rick does not mess around! I've seen this episode many times, and each time, I cry. Beth was evolving into a stronger person. It would have been nice if she would have survived longer. Maggie's cries were so very sad. My heart broke for Daryl. He had a connection with Beth. In an interview, Norman Reedus said to prepare himself for that scene, he sat and cried for an hour and a half. He wanted Daryl to look like he was all cried out when he carried Beth's body out to Maggie.

I love u both and ur TWD reactions! We were all devastated after this episode! Dawn shot her after Beth stabbed her in the shoulder and I think it was just a reflex but regardless it was dumb. She should've went out under different circumstances imo. Seeing Rick and Daryl start crying and then Maggie breaking down, I lost it. So freakin sad, she was all Maggie had left from her family. She thought Beth died at the prison, finds out shes alive, only to get there too late! That scene makes me cry every time!
I understand it was reflex but Dawn had no reason to behave like that. If she didn't ask for Noah, that wouldn't have happened. It's like she always needs to have the last say. Then Beth approaching her, ugh.. that whole scene IRRITATED ME! man....

@@MsMilkywayy Dawn was consistent with her character. The entire time we’ve seen her, she always made choices so that she wouldn’t appear weak. She did the same thing when she asked for Noah. As for the gun shot, as a cop she was trained to have such reflexes, so its an understandable mistake. Beth was stupid to try and stab Dawn. It was a sad situation.
And to this day, Beth being killed off remains one of the worst mistakes the writers made. It was CHEAP. She had really come into her own by Season 5, and her story was far from over. I would’ve liked to of seen how the dynamic between her and Daryl would’ve developed.

RIP BETH! 😥 Ive been waiting for this reaction. I remimber after this aired, Emily was on the Talking Dead, and she was crying because she lived her castmates like family, and she had just bought a house in Atlanta. She had no idea she was about to be killed off. So sad.
This was heartbreaking, I cry every time I re-watch it. Beth was reckless and it was pointless her stabbing Dawn with the little scissors in the chest because they could have all got shot in that hallway, that risked our groups lives and it could have ended up more than one person dead, because Dawn didn't mean to shoot Beth, it was automatic trigger reaction, hence why you see her mouthing to Rick and Daryl "I didn't mean it", but Daryl wasn't hearing/having any of that, he was SO ANGRY and heartbroken at the same time and Rick was in tears too whilst the rest of our group just stood there in shock😱😲😳😧 at first before everyone's guns went up and Daryl; taking Dawn out. Maggie dropping to the ground wailing did it for us, we were sobbing with her too.😭😭😭😭😭 YEP these writers know how to give you hope in one scene then leave you in pieces in the next.

I was spoiled on Facebook because a site published an article about it not long after the episode ended. I worked late and hadn't had a chance to watch so when I watched I didn't really react until Maggie collapsed on the ground.
Great reactions as always!! You are reaching exactly the way I did when I saw this episode. It was such a shock to fans. The character growth of Beth through s4/5 was amazing. She had grown so much and she had become a true survivor. Of all the deaths, Beth’s makes the least sense to me. I didn’t understand then and I didn’t understand it now.

I genuinely don't think that Dawn meant to kill Beth - I think she had come to admire her within that episode. However, if you had a loaded gun in your hands and somebody stabs you, its just reflex. I think Beth did that on purpose because she didnt have something sharp enough to kill Dawn with, but she knew that the others would retaliate if something happened to her. I think Beth wanted her dead for the good of the other people at the hospital. I honestly don't think Dawn was a bad person - I think she asked for Noah as a way to show her people she was still strong enough to lead them, as an example - thats what I took away from her whispering to herself before asking for Noah. Not saying that Dawn was justified at all, I just think she thought she was doing what was right and it obviously wasnt.
Beth’s death is the worst for me. I took it very hard. I loved her character in season 5. Beth stood up to Dawn. Beth wasnt trying to kill her, just put Dawn in her place. Beth figured out that Dawn was weak. When she stabbed Dawn, Dawn overreacted and shot Beth in the head. She didn’t mean to, but whatever. Beth is one character I wish would come back to the show. She certainly went out strong. Wish she survived longer.

Yes, Maggies reaction and.. technically, she lost her sister twice. She thought Beth was dead when Daryl first got back probably, then found out she was alive, then she was dead for real. Lauren Cohan did such a good job with this scene.

I've seen this episode many times, and each time, I cry. Beth was evolving into a stronger person. It would have been nice if she would have survived longer. Maggie's cries were so very sad. My heart broke for Daryl. He had a connection with Beth. In an interview, Norman Reedus said to prepare himself for that scene, he sat and cried for an hour and a half. He wanted Daryl to look like he was all cried out when he carried Beth's body out to Maggie.
The beauty that was Bethyl. 🥰the tender awkwardness and sweet innocence of both Beth and Daryl sexual innocence was what made there connection so magical ✨ because it was spiritual, they emotionally completed each other. It was beautiful cause how sensitive and nurturing it was. Beth is everything Daryl needs in a partner emotionally 🖤 she's an open book 📖 who wears her heart 💖 on her sleeve she's completely honest where she stands emotionally. She the only one compatible to deal with a emotionally dysfunctional and stunted Daryl Dixon. She was the only one capable of teaching Daryl how to survive with his humanity. Cause there soulmates. And without her he's completely regressed into state of deep depression There 20 year age gap never 👎 come across as predatory. It was cute ☺️ delicate with Daryl past abuse emotionally and mentally stunting him, he's underdeveloped and is basically the same age mentally as Beth it's a case of Chronology .vs. Biology 🧬 what indicates maturity? Daryl has never experience romantic or intimate relationship. So it was never a case of a older man taken advantage of a younger girl when there both equally inexperienced and on there journey of discovery together. And it's clear he's not having random hook ups, the guy doesn't even like to be touched. he has no experience or awareness of physical intimacy or how to deal with it. it said it all when Beth hugged him season 4 episode 1. And its evident Beth would taking the lead on all physical intimacy's in the begging.
if Daryl has experience something sexual it was probably something traumatic
like one of his dad's hooker girlfriend molesting him as a child. Some perverted friend of his dad who like to touch little boys. Or Merle forcing pressuring or drugging him into something he didn't really want. Merle idea of helping is pretty much abuse. Daryl in those two episode STILL and ALONE proved he's the type of soul that seeks emotional connection in order to feel comfortable enough to explore physical pleasure and Beth's the same, personality wise there complete opposite but emotionally/spiritually there the same. They seek deeper connects to evolve intimately, they both established there not there siblings Daryl isn't Merle and Beth isn't Maggie there not a free with there bodies cause there different people.
Daryl wouldn't initiate physical contact with other characters not until after his character development with Beth he huge Carol and puts his head on her shoulder when they reunite. When other character like Carol or Rick try to touch Daryl they always did cautiously like approaching a wild animal. Beth bulldozes over his boundaries and his force field. She see's who he is she knows him and trusts him implicitly. she has since the day he held Judith, none of his defence mechanism work on her. All his grunts and shrugs. didn’t deter her, he was baffled 😮and intoxicated🥴🤒just by her existence,the beauty and hope she Represented.He was completely mystified😵💫by her. Beth and Daryl are Beauty and the Beast a tale as old as time when you fall in love in the most unexpected of ways and when you least expect it. The scene on the funeral home where she sings to him and he told her to keep playing. was pretty similar to Belle reading to Beast and him asking to read again, with beast have having the same struggle as Daryl being cursed he never got the chance to mentally develop properly, hence why all the tantrums and angry outburst. They were as close to a fairytale as walking dead was ever gonna get. They were Rapunzel and Flynn AT LAST I SEE THE LIGHT. 🎇 The story of them in the woods was pretty identical she was doe eyes bright hopeful positive light 💡 that kept pulling him out of the darkness and pushing him forward. And he was the criminal with the shameful past exciting without purpose. Who took her from her tower and showed her she was strong and capable all along.
I love u both and ur TWD reactions! We were all devastated after this episode! Dawn shot her after Beth stabbed her in the shoulder and I think it was just a reflex but regardless it was dumb. She should've went out under different circumstances imo. Seeing Rick and Daryl start crying and then Maggie breaking down, I lost it. So freakin sad, she was all Maggie had left from her family. She thought Beth died at the prison, finds out shes alive, only to get there too late! That scene makes me cry every time!
I understand it was reflex but Dawn had no reason to behave like that. If she didn't ask for Noah, that wouldn't have happened. It's like she always needs to have the last say. Then Beth approaching her, ugh.. that whole scene IRRITATED ME! man....

@@MsMilkywayy Dawn was consistent with her character. The entire time we’ve seen her, she always made choices so that she wouldn’t appear weak. She did the same thing when she asked for Noah.
As for the gun shot, as a cop she was trained to have such reflexes, so its an understandable mistake. Beth was stupid to try and stab Dawn.
It was a sad situation.

And to this day, Beth being killed off remains one of the worst mistakes the writers made. It was CHEAP. She had really come into her own by Season 5, and her story was far from over. I would’ve liked to of seen how the dynamic between her and Daryl would’ve developed.

This was heartbreaking, I cry every time I re-watch it. Beth was reckless and it was pointless her stabbing Dawn with the little scissors in the chest because they could have all got shot in that hallway, that risked our groups lives and it could have ended up more than one person dead, because Dawn didn't mean to shoot Beth, it was automatic trigger reaction, hence why you see her mouthing to Rick and Daryl "I didn't mean it", but Daryl wasn't hearing/having any of that, he was SO ANGRY and heartbroken at the same time and Rick was in tears too whilst the rest of our group just stood there in shock😱😲😳😧 at first before everyone's guns went up and Daryl; taking Dawn out.
Maggie dropping to the ground wailing did it for us, we were sobbing with her too.😭😭😭😭😭 YEP these writers know how to give you hope in one scene then leave you in pieces in the next.

I was spoiled on Facebook because a site published an article about it not long after the episode ended. I worked late and hadn't had a chance to watch so when I watched I didn't really react until Maggie collapsed on the ground.
