    I've never once commented on a video, but the older i get the more i realize that certain things should be said, or typed in this case, and not simply thought about and kept silent. So i am going to comment: congratulations on the build, but much more importantly, congratulations on raising a hard working and dedicated young man. One of the greatest things that you can do for humanity is to raise your children to be the best they can be, for themselves and for others. You are, from what ive seen and read, a dedicated father spending time with his son and encouraging and facilitating growth in not just his passion for his truck, but his dedication to persevere through struggle and hard work. While an aptitude for mechanical inclination assisted in this process of installing this lift kit by your son, i would argue that years worth of good parenting were what enabled him to start with. Congratulations to the son, great job. And congratulations to mom and dad, whose love and support could never be measured

    Just saying so you don't run into any problems get a steeringbox support arm from offroad design before too long. The frame always (always) cracks where the steering box is bolted to frame. Offroad design has them. Might check frame right now just to be careful. If it's already cracked they have plates that you weld on that will beef up the frame in that area.

Don't not get one if it isn't cracked because it will with time trust me. Especially with bigger tires. Its a rather cheap upgrade and is well worth the ease of mind. Thank you for the nice comment, Loren. I bet your truck looks awesome. The 1984 is such a classic design. Around here (Connecticut), it seems like these are one of the most popular lift kits. They're nice because they're not super expensive, but they seem well made. I guess the ride quality can be a little rough compared to some, but to me, a rough ride is kind of what being in a truck is all about.

      Hey Jessy. I agree. Why? I don't know. Matt said that's what he wanted to do. I would have just cut the bolt, but he wanted to keep the original bolt for some reason and put it back in the way it came out. Ultimately, we had to take the header out for some other stuff, so it all worked out.

      Hey Donavin. I'm bummed we didn't get to show that part because Matt said it's the hardest part of doing the whole lift, but they actually came out easily because he had just taken them out a couple weeks earlier to replace ball joints. When he said they were going to be hard to get out, I ran inside for awhile, and he came in like 5 minutes later and said they were out. We probably should have re-enacted getting them out to show what we did, but I didn't think of that till after. He got them out by repeatedly heating them up with a torch and then spraying penetrating oil on them and whacking the steering arm on the vertical side near the studs with a sledge hammer. But then he said that it was that way with the worn out factory stock suspension, so overall it’s about the same.

They come in a couple sizes and lug patterns. Corvettes and other cars had a similar wheel, but they didn't have as many slots. A few sites have replicas, and we've seen them here in CT on Facebook Marketplace and Craigs List. You could also try a junk yard. Hi Kyle. So sorry for the slow reply. You probably have it done by now. You didn't mention specifically what the problem was, but if the bolt isn't coming out, Matt says he uses heat when that happens for him. He'll spray it with PB Blaster and then use a MAPP torch to get the metal red hot. He said the heat expands the metal and then when it cools, the metal shrinks, so the bolt should eventually loosen up. It could take several times of heating it and letting it cool to get it out. If this wasn't the problem, let us know, and we'll try to help.

      Hi, Diesel Mac. Are you referring to the part at 3:12? I wanted to record the removal, but Matt got it off before I had a chance to record anything. He had taken it off a couple weeks ago do his ball joins, and it came off easily because of that. However, when he did it then, it took a couple hours. What he did was hit the steering arm over and over on the side with a stubby sledge hammer to try to loosen it up. You can see some of the dents on it from where he hit it. He also sprayed them with penetrating oil and then repeatedly heated it up with a MAP torch and then let it cool down to try to loosen them up. He also used chisel to help pry them free. He said it's not an easy task and just takes a lot of time. Hope this helps.

    Where to start....
    1. They are called cone washers.
    2. Soak all those old rusty bolts in some WD40 or Blaster.
    3. Always charge your battery the night before.
    4. They are brake lines, not hoses.
    5. You could have used the old ones if you lifted up the axle, put the tires on. At full arch they will be tight but you still have zero weight on the leave packs so ove arching

    • @MarkDHall
      @MarkDHall  3 роки тому

      Hey, Bro.
      1. Correct, they're called cone washers. I don't think we ever referred to them by name, but he described how they're tapered and often difficult to get out.
      2. He soaks everything in WD-40 or PB Blaster, but if that doesn't work, heat is the next step.
      3. Not sure what you're referring to, but he always charges his batteries at the end of the day so they're ready to go the next day. Perhaps somewhere in the video one of the batteries wasn't charged. If so, that would have been due to tropical storm Isaias that knocked out our power out for a week.
      4. The flexible tubes that go to the brake caliper are called hoses. Lines are the non-flexible metal tubes that attach to - and run along - the frame of the vehicle. The exact ones Matt used were the "Pro Comp Brake Hose Kit #7220" from Summit Racing. In the aftermarket world, some companies refer to them as brake lines.
      5. I may not have shown it in the video, but when he put the tires back on, and the truck was on the ground, the hoses had zero play. The springs were still loaded from the weight of the vehicle at that point, and as soon as we would have driven on unlevel terrain, the hoses would have over extended.
      Thank you for watching.

    should have just took a grinder and cut the bolts off then flipped them the other way when putting on the new ones 🤦‍♂️

      I told Matt the same thing, but he wanted to keep the stock bolts for some reason.

      Hi, Randall. I created the channel as a way to spend time with my son and document projects he’s working on but never said I was an expert. Working on cars and trucks is something new to me, and I’m having a blast learning and am excited to learn more. I love it when viewers share their experiences and would appreciate hearing any tips or tricks you have that could help me or others. Thank you for watching.

      Flip that number and you'd be close. I think maybe by the time I retire my voice might change, but who knows. Haha.

    Those lift kits SUCK!!! I took all that stuff off after about 10 months because my k5 rode like a damn covered wagon and I just got sick and damn tired of the harsh ride. It’s so much better after I bought new front standard springs and put all the original other parts back on it.

    • @MarkDHall
      @MarkDHall  2 роки тому +2

      Yes. The ride is definitely rough, but Matt's young so his body can still handle it. I'm old and can only handle short trips. Haha. It's funny because we will be driving, and he'll say there's going to be a bump coming up. Hold your coffee because it'll bounce out of the cup holder. He looked at other lifts, but they were pretty expensive, and he didn't really want to spend the money. Thanks for watching and appreciate your comments.

      You’re right. We were amateurs since we’d never done a lift before. We’re always looking to improve, and any advice you can give that would have made it better would be appreciated. Thank you for watching.

      Hey QuickScope, we're looking but didn't see any. Lots of options to lower them but none to raise them up. Sorry! If I find anything, I'll let you know.
