    Excellent repair video Rob. Handy if you can get a heap of faulty solar panels dirt cheap to repair and put together an emergency or secondary array.

    Good repair on the open circuit Rob. The most common fault I come across is blown diodes, low current being a pointer to this. Their a cheap component and typically a tool free fix. Might be worth checking on your panel.

    I do the same after all if they r discarded & repaired its effectively free power , also some times u can re config a higher volt panel to lower volts by cutting tracks & parallel with some surplus grid types ect

    It's kinds neat that PV cells can still work even when they are broken, and that one can make custom output panels just by combining cells into strings.
    Looks like this panel could benefit from a few diodes added to the strings.

    • @ThinkingandTinkering

    Nice fix. What causes the burnout? Is it too much sun or too much current coming back into the panel?

      Many years ago I worked for the company that pioneered "Fracking" in the oil fields, some of the wells we serviced were thick with parafin, we used 28% HCl acid and or 100% xylene to help dissolve it. I got a few drops on me, burns like hell, until washed off. Extremely flammable and ate right through some of our fluid valves if not diluted. Valves in storage tank were a different material.

    • @ThinkingandTinkering
      @ThinkingandTinkering  3 роки тому

      xylene doesn't burn like hell - even 100% - it's a bit cold and mostly sold as paint thinner

    • @ThinkingandTinkering
      @ThinkingandTinkering  3 роки тому

      it's a kind of paint thinner mate - you can buy it online easily enough

    Don't try the drone motor on this one!
    PS: I used a knife blade and scratched off a bit of the back side to access the metal. My aim was to cut the series in 2 series (in parallel) with a lower voltage. From 38 Volt to ~ 19 Volt.
