  • A shining city on a hill. #America the beautiful. The United States has long been mythologised as the land of dreams and opportunity. And since the fall of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s it has been undisputedly the most powerful nation on earth. But is it a fading force? The idea of an America in decline has gained traction in recent years and has, of course, been capitalised on by President Trump. Is America’s ”greatness” under threat?
In this episode of LSE iQ, a collaboration with the LSE Phelan US Centre's podcast, The Ballpark, Sue Windebank and Chris Gilson speak to LSE’s Elizabeth Ingleson and John Van Reenen and Ashley Tellis from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

And they are disappointed. We have no jobs, no housing, nothing to offer any longer.

If it comes down to spending money on defense and investing in new technologies I don`t see it changing much.People point to failures of US policy in the past but those can be attributed to politics, lack of resolve and not to military strength. If you want to say that the USA is weakening as a super power it will mostly be laid at the feet of the political gamesmanship of the leaders.

    USA superpower mainly certain things
1- US Military_ production more than 50 percentage of world.
2- Finance_US financial market (stock & debt not in banking china's banks far bigger than us) far bigger than next some county combined,
USA isn't superpower in Trade, Investment even so in Technology with some industry exception.like Advance Computing, but in Aviation & Pharmacitical Europe is a fierce competitor

after afghanistan, iraq, syria, lybia and other middle eastern countries and now ukraine, the us is weakening. us-saudi relation in 1970s and now is more equal for example. don't need to mention iran. the west is no longer hegemon in africa, sahil has liberated itself. latin america is more independent today as chomsky noticed. share of world gdp of the us and g7 is declining. it will come down to a cost benefit analysis: is belonging to the us aliiance with its regulations and directives from washington including exclusivity more worth than being able to determine on your own which countries you want to work with? of course, if a large number of countries decide to be independent, the us will have to abolish its exclusivity requirements in the medium to long run. multi-alignment or exclusivity in relation to the us is what it is all about. any sane person that does not care about money that much would refuse to be controlled by a big country and only follow orders.

No, we are a superpower in it's death throes. We are in crisis militarily, economically, and socially.
