I tend to agree with you Ron, I have read, and seen documentaries about the old west, and in these were stories about the Benders. In the first place we don't even know if that was their real name, it was very easy to change a name back then. Sometimes your name was changed when you reached America, by sheer accident. Names were often written down by sound, or the person who was asking the questions didn't understand what was said so they just wrote down what they thought they said. Coming from Germany, no one would know what there history was, so no telling what evil they were into there. I can't help but think, this just didn't begin when they got to America. From what I have read etc., they looked for them for some time, and the brother who finally broke the story, would have turned every stone to find them. I believe the four of them split up, at least for a time, the so called sister, and brother went one way, and the mother and father went the other. Names changed, and they were never found, they wouldn't have been known by what they looked like, they were new to America, and most likely wouldn't have any pictures taken. Why would anyone allow these monsters to be buried anywhere around a decent cemetery, especially knowing who they were? Sorry Phyllis, I don't think so. I wrote a book, but so much to say, and hard to break it down. Thanks Ron.
My family says they hung them after tracking them down but swore to secrecy for fear of the law. But Kate had the scar and so did the lady that showed up in GWS and ran the lodge. She always had too much $$$. They hid with their trashy family members on mexican border where they sold stolen horses etc. and stashed money.

I remember watching a Big Valley episode, "Ladykiller", that was based on this very story. The episode, which originally aired in October of 1967, was a really good episode.. The Bloody Benders are one of the many strange stories in the old west. About 5 years ago their land came up for sale. We all know that they were never caught and there really is no telling if these Benders are the right ones or not. I do think it would be difficult to change your ways after that and I also agree with you that they would have went by an alias. The only possible thing I could think of that would be on their side is the fact that it was further away. Also the mining communities of Colorado were not well liked by the farmers and ranchers of Kansas and vice versa. They were really two different cultures. The boundaries were even disputed over atone time. That seems like it would be a very minor way of helping them but Colorado was still pretty wild as it was not a state until about three years after the crimes. It's another one of those disputed stories of the old west that will likely never be solved. But it is still fun to entertain and think about and that is how I feel about all of the alternative stories like that.

Wow! A serial killing family! How creepy! Awesome story Ron! I really do want to know who is buried there. I have more questions than answers now. Time to try and dig. 😁
Good lord I know that story. I’m also 🇨🇦 in Ontario. There’s a great Canadian podcast called Canadian True Crime, which you might already know about. A lovely Aussie girl turned Canadian does the podcast.
I read where Laura Ingalls said that her Pa was in the posse that went to the Bender farm, and found the bodies. He came back home, and when she asked about them, He said, theyl never harm anyone else again. She said she didnt think that was what should have been put in her books so she left that story out.
Growing up in Kansas every school child knew about the Bloody Benders and their evil deeds in South Eastern Kansas. I visited their cabin many times and the Historical markers placed a line the roads. Some say they were done away with by the locals and others say they escaped on the train. No one know for sure.
Versions of this story seem to be common in many states along the original wagon trails. Many tales of "Innkeepers" taking in lodgers for the night, murdering them in their sleep, stealing their valuables, and burying the victims beneath the foundations. Rose Wilder Lane (daughter of the famous Laura Ingalls) even writes of hearing such a tale from a coworker in her youth, about a boarding house in Kentucky. She wrote out the story and titled it "Faces in the Window". Great ghost story, and Rose claims it to be completely true.
I actually heard about this family in an out of sorts ways. I learned about the family story via a tv show. The Big Valley lol. Was a long time so i cannot remember if the family name they used in the show was Benders or because it was about a real incident they changed the name. But something tells me it was Benders and it played out exactly how you explained it in the show. Ma, pa, son, daughter, with a curtain to the back of the victim. Odd to find out that this was actually true. Wow!
The family name used on the Big Valley was Bleecker. Actor Royal Dano played the father. Marlyn Mason played the seductive daughter, whom Nick Barkley falls for. Season 3 episode 6. These criminals were caught however.
Kupcinet.., And The Crazy Story About The Call That She Make About The Killing Of J.F.K......Maybe The SAME People The Kill Her, Kill Miss Dorothy Killgallen, That They Said She Knows Too Much About J.F.K. Assessanation. Together With Marilyn Monroe They Makes 3 Beautiful Womens And All Three Had Some Different Conspiracy involved Around Kennedy's Murder.
Wow this is amazing so many stories relating to these people I would really like to hear more about what happened to the man and his little baby I would hope those people wouldn't have killed that baby but then again you would want it raised with those monsters
Read about this years ago, also several TV shows have been done, thanks so much for the update! I had forgotten their names but by descriptions this was the family the shows were about.
Another great mystery story. There was a western show back in the day maybe Bonanza but not sure it was that show and one segment incorporated The Benders story line. It was a scary show that night. Now after watching this I find out it was based on a true story. Good job.
I used to live in Parsons KS near Bender mound. A guy i worked with told me when he was young he knew an old man. This old man told him when he was young his Grandpa told him he rode with a posse and they caught the Benders near Coffeville or Independence and lynched all of them. May be true. May not be.
As a relative of someone that stayed with the Benders but made it out alive this was of particular interest to me. I visited their cabin many times and the Historical markers placed a line the roads. Some say they were done away with by the locals and others say they escaped on the train. No one know for sure.
I read the cabin didn’t stand for long because the crowds took it apart board by board so they could have a part of the bender place
Oh what webs we weave when we practice to deceive 😳. Great vid Ron ..thank you 🙏💗🕊️
Versions of this story seem to be common in many states along the original wagon trails.
Reminds me of one of the versions of of the murder: the other version being suicide; of Merriwether Lewis as he was reporting to Thomas Jefferson.
I went back to watch this episode to get the history. I will go watch the current video now. This is an enthralling story
I remember this story. They lured people into coming into there home and they killed them. A Psychotic family. There all in hell now
Thank you very much!
Can you imagine watching towns come out of nowhere then? Like building up from squatters camps. Wow.

Very Good & Creepy

My goodness what gorgeous scenery.
Read about this years ago, also several TV shows have been done, thanks so much for the update! I had forgotten their names but by descriptions this was the family the shows were about.
Thanks for putting this together from the UK 🇬🇧
Love these kind of stories...
When you will really love this coming Wednesday, part two of the Bender story where we go to the actual site and find artifacts.
How creepy! A family of serial killers 😲who knows where they ended up,it was so much easier to disappear back then!
There is a highway rest area in Labette County, probably around Parsons, with a story board telling the whole tale of the murdering Benders.
Great storytelling and amazing scenery, subscribed.
Thank you Ryan!
Just so happens this coming Wednesday will be a part of this Bloody Bender’s story on the scene where it happened.

Horrible the things people will do..thanks for the video...and the music at the end made it creepier !great touch !
Too bad the story of the Benders didn't end with a trial, guilty verdict, and a good ol' quadruple hangin'.
if they were caught, I can guarantee there would be no trial, they said the posses and locals wanted to tar, feather and burn them alive!! yikes.
@@FacesoftheForgotten I don't blame them, not at all.
I'm sure they got theirs. Karma has a way of catching up with those that deserve it.
@@FacesoftheForgotten And I would not blame them for that.
Yay I get to be here/there tonight 😊
Love that old photo you can just see they are hard working people

Great video and you did a great job telling the story. Thank you
I have never heard of this. Now that I have, I'm surprised no one has made a movie about it.
They have its supposedly on UA-cam
Well, the Hills have Eyes is kind of similar.
@@sarahholland2600 I have heard of it but have not seen it. I will look for it. Thanks.
Any documentaries or movies. You answered my book question. Thank you
Another great mystery story. There was a western show back in the day maybe Bonanza but not sure it was that show and one segment incorporated The Benders story line. It was a scary show that night. Now after watching this I find out it was based on a true story. Good job.
Fascinating topic/story and great presentation.
I used to live in Parsons KS near Bender mound. A guy i worked with told me when he was young he knew an old man. This old man told him when he was young his Grandpa told him he rode with a posse and they caught the Benders near Coffeville or Independence and lynched all of them.
May be true. May not be.
