Don’t tell Matt but Fab Rats are quickly becoming one of my favorites. I really enjoy the diversity in your channel. BTW, it’s fun to watch either channel when you and Matt join forces. You guys are great together. Tell Papa, I am 68, I remember the old way of drawing grease into the gun.
Yea I'm only 45 but yea I rem filling the grease gun various ways,, course we had to as we grew up amish weren't allowed any electric or air in the churches I grew up in,, but then we ended up going to tubes...man I love your alls both channel...
I used to have a grease zerk in the top of my hand pump grease gun and would take it to the shop and use the pneumatic gun to fill my pump grease gun. Easy and fast.
I still draw grease into the old gun i use purely for CV grease when repacking CV joints, via snipping the small end clip of the CV boot and sliding a 4" long really narrow adaptor right up into the joint itself, CV joints like all other joints last much much longer if you give them the ocassional regrease. Great to see grease nipples on the Banana's steering joints, only have them on the propshats of my Toyota Prado, probably they'll be done away with when the next gen Toyota 4x4's are released...cue Hardy Spicer's no longer lasting the life of the vehicle.
I think you are right. He would have to take them off again to do that, that Jeep is on the road a bunch it seems. I agree with Paul, leave the wheels chrome and coat the rings Banana yellow if he does follow through.
Well except for Matt's lack of gloves while holding the base rings for the tack-welding! Gack, I'd hate to get burned like that! Oh wait... I have... sorta. Sitting indian-style wearing shorts while welding. I'll leave the rest to your imagination.
I admire the collaborative ability of Matt and Paul to do these things. I learn a lot from watching but know I could never do anything like i see you guys do!
WOW! That is just so amazing how all that works and it's much more complex than the method we used for our motorcycles with a tube inside. You all have so much skill in welding without warping and machining such large things. I love how you work so well together. Maybe a new channel called Fab Rats & Matt.
Matt, my kids thought I was weird calling some of my tools by the sound they make... Until they heard you say "tappy tappy" for your hammer. I was calling my hammer the "tappy tap tap" and I am now completely justified... Thank you! 🤙🏽
"The lathe not big enough? It's 25 ft long? Reminds me of story of a pilot complaining about how short the runway was, and the co-pilot saying 'Yeah, but look how wide it is."
I put air soft pellets in mine to balance them. Get them centered when bolting down the tire and you won’t have any problems. I could run down to the single digits with no leaks. Air soft pellets work great!
So I subscribe to about 1.4 million channels and this one is becoming my favorite. LOL. The comedy, editing and other funny stuff is epic. Thanks for the thousands of grins per hour.
Love your videos and Matts channels. You guys are some of the best shade tree mechanics I have ever seen. You guys are always airing up and deflating your tires off road fighting with the valve stem cores. I was just messing around one day while checking my fifth wheel tires. I found that if you take the Wynnsky bayonet style tire inflator gauge (just one brand) I got from Lowes for about $20.00. You disconnect it from the air hose and use it on the inflated tire it will show you the tire pressure with out leaking. Then you push the inflator lever still not connected to the air line and it will let air in the tire out at a good rate. You can let off and check the air pressure. It makes it nice not to mess with the valve stem core. ( The Wynnsky tire inflator is on Amazon for $19.00)
Another fine video and fantastic craftsmanship again folks. Well done! A quick thought on using an abrasive grinder on your lathe , always make sure to clean the lathe bed off before continuing as the abrasive bits can cause wear. Thanks again for sharing the projects with us.
Great work, Paul. I usually wait until I'm at work (I work at night) to watch these but I couldn't wait. I had never thought of making my own beadlocks so learned a thing or two on this one.
Oh great next version of the Jonny Lighting Banana will have chrome wheels. Make sure they do the Taco also. All kidding aside, it's good to have friends like you guys.
That was quite a process. Amazing what a couple smart and able fabricators can do with the right knowledge, parts and tools to get r done! Great job guys!
Looks great y'all and, I'm with Paul... chromed and yellow [outer plate] would look really nice against the black tire! To balance out tires/rims with custom beadlocks is no small task! Very impressed guys! Michelle is a great sport with the "what's the part" bit! :) Given that she's your videographer and producer... I can see her gettin' even in your future Paul! Patiently waiting for that clip, when she gets you in her wheelhouse and asks what's what! lol Great video y'all... thanks!~
Back in 1974 I drove a early Suzuki 4 x 4 but back then it had a two-stroke engine in it and as you drove it it sounded like a dirtbike . It was a hoot to drive; I wished I had bought it.
I remember the grease guns that got the grease from a barrell. 1959 at my dad's Shell station. In the oil change grease bay was a 6 ft. deep pit. In it were the oil and trans drain cans, the barrell for the grease gun and lots of dirt and grease. Guess who got to clean it our. Yep, the 11 year old, me! Think that was bad? The wash pit next door had a 5 ft. deep "sump" to catch the mud so it didn't clog up the drains. Every few months someone got to get in the pit and shovel out all the mud. Yep, the 11 year old. Lots of memories and education at that Shell station!
To load my big camper onto my Hi-Boy Ford F250 4X4 I let some air out of all for tires to lower the truck to fit underneath the big camper. Yeah it just fit, camper loaded... all four tires flat and off the bead. Yeah......
This drove me to understanding that the bead is clamped outside of the rim. Now I know. Didn`t have a clue before. Nice work and they`re in balance, incredible.
Hell of a job, guys. can't believe they didn't need a ton of lead. Its doubly great when skilled guys just wing it and it all works out. Just like the Wright Bros?
Nice job, Marsh Raceing Wheels makes beadlock kits for most wheel diameters, Chucking an axleshaft With correct bolt pattern into a lathe makes a perfect manderal...
I love to see Paul and Matt work together. 👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Matt and Paul basically turn into 12 year olds whenever they get together. Let’s be honest, we all need friends like this.
Two of the best channels on the platform.
Yes we do need such friends. Luckily, I also have a few of them and consider myself a rich man.
Best part about these videos

My gosh, I'd swear that was an Arkansas Highway Department road crew. One guy working, 7 watching. AWESOME to see ya'll together.

We all know Matt. Those rings will NEVER get powder coated. They will develop a nice patina of rusty Utah sand color, and be bulletproof forever!
😂

Fab Rat what was wrong with welder you found in the dump that lathe is old school we're you get that lathe. In joy both channels 👍
Given how harsh the terrain is, any coating will likely be sandblasted and ground off in short order.
All those wheels will get is a can of spray paint.

AWESOME job ... You have amazing talent, Paul !!!! That is a lot of work, and impressive as hell !!

Paul you are a master of fix it! So many bead locks done in shops with out a lathe or a Dial caliber. excellent job.
Very cool! Great vid - thanks for taking us along for the ride!
I am 70 this year and I was working in a gas station shop back in 62 and we had those old style grease guns.
That crooked steering wheel is messing with my ocd....big time 😂👍🏼

I don’t see how someone can dislike these videos. I always hit the like button before I even watch his videos.
Wheels powder coated black, with yellow lock rings would look great.
That's what I was going to suggest! Then you'll have to have the Johnny Lightning car redone, and this time they can add a light bar for accuracy. :)
with black bolts
I'd do yellow wheels with black rings, I think.
Two all American families right there. Great content!
