- It's finally here. After a year of hard work and prototype testing, I have built my new favorite drone - TanQ-S.
The "S" stands for Sport, or Sub250, or Speed, or Small, or Super, or Spectacular. "Don't let me catch you calling it cute!" LOL
I knew a year ago that regulations were changing. Laws in the United States, and other Countries, were about to change, and, right or wrong, it was something we were going to have to deal with, one way or another.
Wherever you stand on this topic, I wanted to be able to do everything I did before the new regulations, do it legally, and not make any sacrifices.
When I envisioned the TanQ-S, it needed to be able to check 5 boxes.
- It had to be capable of being built under 250 grams, so, we could fly in the United States, recreationally, without having to register, or outfit our drones with remote id.
- It had to be able to carry the DJI o3 System, so that I could get GoPro-like, quality footage to upload to my UA-cam channel
- And it had to do that without any props or frame in view, in the widest setting available, while protecting the camera.
- TanQ-S had to fly as good, or better than my 5" drone
- And most importantly, it had to be durable enough to be worthy of the name TanQ.
After a year of hard work, and Bando Bashing, the TanQ-S checks all those boxes, and more.

Great product! Just a videographer's advice, if the camera you carry everywhere can't keep your face in focus, just use a phone instead, you will get better results!
Yes. I noticed that after and didn’t feel like re-recording. It took a long time to make this video. Hopefully, it wasn’t too distracting

Very tempting. I have a few quads in the 3" - 3.5" range that I really like flying. One is analog that's really zippy, one is a deadcat meant to be LR, and one is a freestyle. The analog might be the only one under 250g. This Tanq-S is worth a look.

I've been flying 3.5 inch with 860mah with Vista for 2 years almost. I apoxied two 4mm frames for a 8mm basher and it's never broke yet after many crashes on grass and concrete. More pilots should try 3.5 inch drones for freestyle. Nice build 👍

Just finished my build of this frame/motor/DJI O3/ELRS and it flys very nice. I can see this replacing my favorite 5” the QAV-S 2. Nice job engineering.

Great work, Sean! I bought 2 Tanq's at Rampage last year and they are my daily drivers, love em ❤ I'd love to grab 2 of these, but so fearful of further burying my Acrobrat and not flying them. I run the old TMotorF20 3600 and those still rock... can't seem to damage them.
Ahh. See that is what the TanQ is for. Fly without Fear (of burying brats 😂). J/k. Yeah. If you get the new TanQ-S, there is a very good chance you won’t want to fly anything else. 😂

You really haven't flown 5" in 7 months??😲 Dang man, that caught me off guard. NOTHING ever flies as good as 5" imo. I have been sleeping on 3.5" a bit.
I felt the same way.
I honestly haven’t wanted to fly the 5” - my local flying buddies can vouch for me. :)
Also the arm armattan gecko is really good especially with the armattan 1407 oomph 3650kv motors
Been burning up my 4” on 1804s (sub250).. looking forward to adding this to my sub 250 squad!! That weight makes these quads like they fly on rails…

Very cool. Though not very clear on the sub 250g: You should give the dry weight on the website (instead of with the 660 battery) and also detail the weight savings you mention in the video. Otherwise: very cool and def. tempting.
The dry weight is on the site (if you mean the individual components. Otherwise, the amount of tape, zipties and wire length will change the built weight. I showed photos of the weight in different configurations with different battery choices. The video was already pretty long and boring. :/
@@LetsFlyRC 295g minus 64 battery is 231 plus 300/36 g battery minus 18 g to save. Maybe put the pictures in the description of the product site? As shipping to Europe is a bit much (though not totally unreasonable) and the O4 coming I'll keep my eyes open. Still a very cool little bird!

Not sure how one would calculate motor amp draw. Sorry, I don’t know that value. It would depend on many variables - prop choice, voltage used, throttle value…
Also, numbers aren’t the only factor you should be looking at when choosing a motor. In this hobby, calculations don’t always show the full story when compared to real-world testing.

The stock camera mount that comes with the frame should fit 19mm analog camera, although, I haven’t tried it.
The dji cam is 19mm
The stock camera mount has 1 or 2 hole configuration

@@strykerfpv o3 is 20mm. Dji vista is 19mm. Both fit in the mount. The 1mm difference doesn’t affect the fit, really.

Looks awesome. I'm hovering over the "add to cart" button but wondering if I can use the DJI 03 ND/UV filters on this? Seems like the camera protection might interfere?
The great thing about 3d prints is they can always be modified. ;)

I think I test fit the mount with nd, but, I can’t remember. I will do it later today.
Nd will break, even in this mount, in a crash, though. No mount can protect the nd well, because the fov of the o3 is so wide

@@LetsFlyRC I was more concerned that the metal cam cage would interfere but maybe not since the 03 NDs are so thin. It's nice that you included the step files for the 3D prints so they can be modded. The NDs will of course break but I just can't live without them lol. Make the footage look so much better.

Another simple way of removing weight is by removing the plastic case over the lipos. Just write the volts and mah with a sharpie on the cells. You'll save a few grams.

Whats the dry weight? 1604 is the best 3.5 inch motor size.
Why dont you use M2.5? Got it on many of my 3.5 or 4 inch builds. Love m2.5 screws
All specs are listed in the product descriptions on the site. I think the frame weight is on RR website.
M2.5 are hard to find.

Specs dont add up to 249g, unless you're saying the additional TPU stuff is more than 50g. Of course your Video Shows sub250, but please correct your math for the sub250 snobs 😂

I’m very new to FPV. I’ve only got about 20 packs through my Avata 2, so go easy on me, but just to be fully clear from what I understand, watching mad tech and a couple of other UA-cam channels, my goggles and remote that are OS 4 would be compatible with this drone now, correct? I know it was not necessarily recommended to use the DJI remote three because it transmits to the goggles and then the goggles send the command to the drone, but just to get started, that is what I was hoping I could do because my only other radio is my spectrum 2.4 from my 3-D Helis. Basically I’m hoping to purchase the drone only and be able to go fly right away.

I fly this with goggles 2 and dji remote 2, so, no worries. It flies great with the dji remote. All of my recent videos were flown with remote controller 2
Noozle3d sells an o3 GoPro style mount that better protects the camera. Is that compatible w the tanq s?

What are your o3 camera settings?
I fly with cine color, because Rotor Riot likes color grading all the footage to be similar - i use rock steady, not because it makes me a better pilot, because it doesn’t, but, because I hate changing props - and I have the iso set pretty high, because it doesn’t do great in darkness, and the motion blur is something only about 5% of viewers notice. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The weak point. T mount props !! I break them more on the babyhawk2 which cops a beating .. 5mm shaft is alot more durable .

I have gotten used to tmount props over the past 8 months, forcing myself to fly them, exclusively.
I can say the HQ prop 3.5 are more durable than the gemfan ones, and I never break them at the hub.
