It's the pastors, it's the ones that want to go up and testify the most. I was called to Christ about twenty years ago, but I also started working at the county jail. The number of church folk I saw come in and out of there was horrible, the things they were doing showed that they were not following what they preached. I believe now that was a test of my conviction and I failed. I denied myself a relationship with God because of what I saw others doing, the same ones that prayed with me and laid their hands on my head. I feel that calling again and pray that my character is strong enough this time, whatever test may come.
this man should be in jail. imagine being the victim and telling your story and there goes the whole crowd hugging your fucking abuser that's a fucking slap on the face.
You're missing the huge part.... he didn't go there to confess.... SHE WENT THERE TO EXPOSE HIM, and he must of seen her in the crowd so he decided to reveal his interpretation of what happened before she could out him. if she didnt have the courage to go, this would have never happened. Brave girl.
Oh my God. You’re fucking right. His tone of voice was not repentant, it was declaratory. It was like saying what he ate from breakfast. He didn’t care. You’re so fucking right. Underrated comment. He kept defending himself and correcting the people in the audience. If he really was sorry he wouldn’t have been able to stand on that stage or look the members of the crowd in the eyes. He probably would have resigned weeks prior if he actually had been convicted of his crime. But no. He didn’t care. He was anxious he’d be ratted out like you said. This makes me so sick to my stomach, having grown up in church this kind of thing could have happened and I wouldn’t have known what to have done as a kid. This makes me so sick how twisted they use the scripture. It makes me sick to my stomach to see how they disregard justice just to save face and appear godly. Using “forgiveness” as a means to sweep it under the rug and dismiss the whole thing of responsibly for his crimes. 100% fucking pure evil. God has a special place in hell for this guy. That’s biblically endorsed too. Just read Matthew 23. Jesus literally would be disgusted and condemn these kinds of people. Half of Jesus’ ministry was **against** the so called “Pastors” of his day and age, the Pharisees and Sadducees. He literally warns people to “do what they teach you but not what they do” because he wanted to make a distinction between actually following the law and acting unjustly and lawlessly as the hypocritical teachers would do. I once had a pastor who told me that he once had a woman come to him and basically admit that her husband was viciously abusing her, and she wanted to seek religious guidance since she believed that men were to be the head of the household. The pastor immediately called the cops and the husband was arrested. I wish there were more pastors who could separate from religion just for a second to do the right thing. So many of these people use it as a way to abuse their position of power. edit: As many people have said, it was a poor choice of words to say "separate from religion." This specifically referenced how people use religion as a shield to do whatever they want.
I am so glad that situation went well. It is unfortunate how we can be so into our faith that we forget that there are legal systems in place for situations like this.
It’s not seperate religion from doing the right thing, it’s separating greed and power to do the right thing. God tells you to turn the other cheek to be patient and loving, to not act back in a hateful, not to flagellate and hurt you. If someone is continually abusing you, you have to leave. That's catholic, or some other church that functions like catholics. In most churches, if you committed adultery but repented, you can still be a pastor. As long as it doesn't effect the church in a negative way. However churches like the Catholic Church, have all these rules and regulations that are more about business than worship. A recent priest has been saying lines wrong when baptising. So all these people think they aren't saved anymore because of a simple mistake. Dumb A lot of people think of Catholics when they hear christain. But really most christain churches in the US don't like Catholics. Not the people, just their beliefs. @@lalotime The Catholic Church, being the oldest institution in the world, with over a billion members across the globe, necessarily has an extensive Code of Canon Law that, ideally, guarantees a degree of oversight and provides channels for conducting business and addressing abuses. However, the form of the Sacrament of Baptism is not a matter of canon law; it is a matter of sacramental theology. So you are wrong to connect the baptismal formula with "rules and regulations that are more about business than worship." On the contrary, the sacrament itself depends in part upon the proper words being said, which principle may be seen in embryo in the New Testament; the baptismal font is not the place for personal ingenuity. The priest in question did not make a "simple mistake"; regardless of his intentions he was either extremely careless or willfully disrespectful of the Church's instructions. Finally, to say that the invalidly baptized are not "save[d]" is to misunderstand the Catholic doctrines concerning salvation, which see a more or less gradual human progress toward beatitude, in cooperation with the divine grace normatively received at Baptism. In other words, if you're going to call something "dumb," I suggest understanding it first.

I'm sorry your therapist told you to do that. It frustrates me when people say to "forgive and forget" because how can you? That's something that's stuck with you from then on out. I was sexually assaulted and told by my family to forgive him that same day. I just said it to make them stop, but years later told him to his face that I didn't mean it and that I would never forgive him for what he did to me.
I am sorry it happened to you. But at some point you have to let go of things beyond your control. Forgive yourself for letting it haunt you on a daily basis. Forgive yourself for saying I forgive you to the person who raped you. I hope there comes a time where you don’t think of it anymore.
Forgiveness is simply letting go of revenge, having inner peace. You don’t even have to say it aloud, you can just tell it to yourself. And by the way, forgiveness doesn’t mean trust or being friends with who ever wronged you. Forgiveness does not exclude punishment. Evil has to be stopped and wrong actions have consequences. Anyways, forgiving is up to you. At least in my experience it has helped me.
Just think about how many other pastors like him have done something similar that we’ll never know about, because we all know that this isn’t just an isolated incident and it’s only a matter of time until other victims start speaking up. Just because he took accountability for his actions, it doesn’t make it any less of a crime, no matter how hard he tried to sugarcoat it, I’m glad the victim spoke up and told the entire story. It’s absolutely ridiculous how the crowd actually cheered for him committing adultery, then turned against him for like a split second, and eventually “forgave” this man even after witnessing a confession of a crime and even started hugging him... People are too easily manipulated. All we can do is hope the best for the victim.
Bro, that's not how forgiveness works, that's disgusting. This man did not regret the crimes he committed, if he really wanted to redeem himself (in some way) from that crime, he would go to jail (actually receive punishment for his actions) and stop preaching. For every action there is a consequence, when God forgives us (and only forgives when we REALLY repent) he does not exempt us from the consequences of our actions, but saves us from going to hell by the merit of Jesus. Whatever a man sows, he reaps (Galatians 6:7-8)
I don't know where this happened, but I wish 16 was considered a sexual minor everywhere. I was assaulted at 16, the jury was convinced I wanted it, the 30 year old man only did time in jail because he provided a gun and tried to hire someone to kill me. He was in jail for two years. I hope she gets some sort of justice, for herself and for the rest of us.
Oh my god I'm so sorry this happened to you. I hope you recover from this 🙏 By the way I totally agree, remembering myself at 16 years old I was a completely batshit insane person and I can't imagine someone this age could give clear consent
As a real Christian, just because God forgives you of a sin (no matter how bad), that doesn’t mean you get to escape the consequences of your actions. This man should be in prison.
Imagine your abuser getting up there and getting a standing ovation when admitting to abusing you publicly. That woman was brave to stand up to him because as someone who used to be apart of the church, a lot of people will dismiss things or say your lying for speaking the truth. I totally agree with Charlie about certain people not deserving to be forgiven
As a Christian who's seen the worst side of spiritual authorities, I've always kept this saying in my heart: "Everyone is deserving of forgiveness, but no one is exempt from punishment"
@@christiancastro434 yeah and this is where the church gets it wrong a lot of times from my experience. Many leaders interpret forgiveness as no punishment and no justice for the victims and their flock simply follow. Very opposite of Jesus.
Hell no, forgiveness has to be earned! He clearly isn't truly sorry, as he tried to paint the abuse as positively as he could. Has he paid for her therapy? Apologized to her? To his wife? Most importantly, has he confessed to the cops and his worldly superiors? No? Then you just want a get out of jail free card, not to make things right.
In terms of biblically forgiveness is not earned. But if you are going off secular reasoning then yea sure it is. Now he still needs to take full responsibility, including jail time imo but forgiveness is still biblical.
Everyone has many shames in their lives, can even a single person earn full forgiveness for all their misdeeds? We don't even know the full weight of our actions, if each had to fully pay for everything we might find that we cannot pay our debt, especially when life itself was already given to us for free. It's probably best to give everyone unconditional forgiveness so that we get the same and we can be at peace with ourselves and others. That's not to say that there shouldn't be consequences, but I life itself is already enough of a burden and we could all do with more peace.
“God will forgive him” -well, I’m not God. I’m glad she was able to stand up and say that, that took guts. At least everyone can know what kind of person he is

As a Christian myself, this is disgusting. The Bible teaches forgiveness, but it doesn’t say to praise bad actions. That’s messed up. He should not have gotten a standing ovation. And if you’re really innocent, you don’t need to tell everyone…
God forgives those who repent and feel the pain they inflicted on others, not those who simply ask for forgiveness. Forgiveness is to be earned, not begged for. Of course as an atheist i think we should just cut his nuts off and be done with it, but i digress.
I don't think they were really praising him for his bad actions. At first they were clapping because he came clean about a sin he commited in the past. I think it just makes people think "you're honest, you admitted a fault and you're like us normal people." I can understand that. However, once it turned out that the sin was raping a minor... Yeah, the fact that so many people still went for a fucking group hug and forgave him is nuts.
@@glen7137 and yet if you're an athiest or do anything deemed as ungodly they will basically smite you off the earth. So fucked how forgiveness only matters when it's convenient, but justice doesn't. Even Jesus flipped a table over in anger when he felt an injustice, and it's largely doubtful he would condone or celebrate child rape. These people are fucked, plain and simple. If the pastor really gave a crap he would have turned himself in, not argue about what age she was when he raped her. They act righteous for celebrating child abuse and completely ignore the one person in that room that actually needs support.
Guy in the crowd: “Did you do it? That’s all we need to know.” Pastor: “Yes WE did it, I told you.” Disgusting how he put the blame on her and not solely himself. There’s no way she consented to that.
"It is what it is" are the words of a person who feels nothing for the situation and doesn't care about the psychological trauma they caused to their victim. It's sad to see his audience being too enamored with his holy, modest image to see the travesty standing right in front of them. Praying for the poor woman.
They love these types of people. He was sinful but he beat that sin and spoke up! Even though they still ignore the girl and what he did because you know, the guy clearly is more important since he was the one tempted by an underaged evil girl. Always blaming the victim and trashing them. They are all disgusting at that church besides the girl. This is why religion is ripe full of abuse of all types because people praise and worship the leaders of the religion above even their gods. It's sick.
Not only did this man cheat on his wife, he did so with a teenager. And his audience is applauding this. I’m baffled that a person can be like this, let alone a religious preacher. Edit: I guess he wasn’t proud of it, but it doesn’t change the fact that he did it, knowing full well that it was a huge sin.
I am not... makes perfect sense that a person who spends theyre entire lives telling people what to believe in thinking they know right from wrong, is a piece of shit.
When you consider how prevalent this is in churches, and how p***philia has been going on for decades in churches, it is not that surprising. Doesn’t make it any better, but it seems weird to me how people want to cling onto this idea that religious groups somehow means those people are “naturally sin free”, when it really seems to be the opposite.
They applauded not knowing he had cheated with a child. The audience also didn't applaud the fact he cheated but that he admitted it and was "sorry". But yea what a disgusting person he is
"I told you I commited adultery." Wow, who'd have thought cheating on your wife with a willing participant is not the same as cheating with someone you forced into it.

I am a Christian and I believe in forgiveness, but they don’t get to forgive him. They are not the victims. Only the victim can give forgiveness. And even if she forgives him he still has to submit to authority and take the punishment for his crime. He is a threat to children. How do they not get this? (Edit) I just want to clarify my position. Christianity is based of forgiveness. Our sins are forgiven. That’s the only way we can get to heaven. The thing is we still have to repent. The thing is that we as humans can’t judge true repentance. Only God can. So when we have something so evil as rape against a child, we must seek justice not only for justice’s sake but for the protection of others. I’m not saying we should hold grudges or hold things against somebody for everything they do. If my brother lies to me of course I’d forgive him and move on. But true repentance in that situation is to admit that you lied and try to make up for it if possible. If this pastor is truly repentant he wouldn’t have tried to hide the extent of his actions and he would seek justice as well. He can be truly repentant and still be at risk of doing this again, so if he truly feels bad he would do the right thing and turn himself in. As far as why I said only the victim can forgive him, I guess in some sense the church members are also victims because he lied to them, and they can forgive him for lying but still turn him over to authorities. The true crime was against the person he raped. She doesn’t have to forgive him, but she is the one who he should be asking forgiveness of. Hopefully that explains it better. Maybe not though
Fellow Christian here, the Bible warns us of wolves in sheep’s clothing. I hope the victim can forgive this pastor and I hope he gets prison time, labeled as a child predator and never allowed near children again.

This right here is what I have tried to warn my daughter about her entire life. Whatever faith you are, whatever greater power you believe in NEVER surrender your common sense, your self identity, or your inner morality in what is or isn't right and always be willing to stand up and defend them. You can love a higher power without being made into a brainwashed meat puppet by countries, companies, organized religion and cults.
They have to surrender some of those things, or there's no authenticity to their faith. Every religion requires you to suspend belief and to have faith in things unseen. Common sense, you're good on. But in Christianity, your identity as you progress should be less and less like yourself and more like God, not focused on the things of the world. There is no inner morality, because morality comes from God, and we obviously don't know better than he does. However, every person has a spark of divinity in them, because they're made in God's image. And that idea is what we've built our governments on, that the preservation and prosperity of the individual is the primary directive. But Christianity is about the humility of being a servant, to God and to others, not to a government or even oneself.
Exactly. You are first, your morals are first, things and people around you that are real and there are first. Having faith in some higher power shouldnt take away from your core values as a human. You're an amazing mom!

It’s not seperate religion from doing the right thing, it’s separating greed and power to do the right thing. Yup. My grandpa was an elder at his church and was kicked out for leaving his wife for an old flame. Married his old flame. Southern Baptist btw.
cant believe they made them have no bitches 😭 thats amazing
That's catholic, or some other church that functions like catholics. In most churches, if you committed adultery but repented, you can still be a pastor. As long as it doesn't effect the church in a negative way.
However churches like the Catholic Church, have all these rules and regulations that are more about business than worship. A recent priest has been saying lines wrong when baptising. So all these people think they aren't saved anymore because of a simple mistake. Dumb
A lot of people think of Catholics when they hear christain. But really most christain churches in the US don't like Catholics. Not the people, just their beliefs. They have idols that step between them and God. A lot of abuse happens in the catholic church too. Bad rep for christains
@@lalotime Catholic priests can't even marry so how would they divorce

7:25 this woman in the crowd is actually so smart for overstating the age difference as to make the pastor confess to the actual age of the girl..whether she meant to or not she got the confession out of him that "no, ackschully she was 16" not only does this open up the fact that she was underage it also tells that the pastor was very well aware that he was sexually involved with a minor.
He's holding that point because the age of consent in their state is 16, so he's not facing criminal charges for statutory.
@@Mr12Relic I hate that so much, people will hold onto State ages of consent as if the federal age of consent isn't 18 for a very good reason, and as if that somehow makes it any less creepy. A 16 year old in California is still the same age in Indiana, still a minor no matter what some sleazy laws say.
@@PistenDeer It's not. The vast majority of countries and US states choose 14, 15 or 16. The US federal government didn't magically get the right age over everyone else, nor did california. Your cultural norms are YOUR cultural norms. What's sleazy is that this relatively old man manipulated and abused this young girl from a position of power into having sex with him.
Just because the age of consent is 16 doesn't mean "relationships" like this shouldn't be heavily scrutinised, Age of Consent doesn't actually matter that much in itself because even when it's lower you don't get a big rush of teenagers wanting to have sex with middle aged men and women. I think quite clearly age of consent or not, there wasn't consent here. As the replier states, the guy wants to make sure it's 16 because 16 is not underage where he's at and he won't face statutory charges. This would force her to prove rape rather than just sex (the latter of which he's admitted to).
@@Person01234 A lot of countries with age of consent below 18 specify that if someone under 18 has sex with someone that's over 18 it could still be classified as a crime even if the underage person consented.
@@Mr12Relic statutory works anyway, age of consent (if it's under 18) usually means with *other people who are under 18*. 16 yr old with a 30yr old is still (statutory) rape

I told the person who raped me as a teenager that I had forgiven him, on the advice of my therapist. Because I was told it was the only way to "let go", not only from her but society. Years later it haunts me on a daily basis. Thanks for the ending Charlie. And to anyone who has been in this situation, you absolutely do not have to forgive anyone who wrongs you in this way. Do not believe the bullshit about forgiveness is moving forward - some things are unforgivable.
Yea, you dont owe anyone forgiveness.
But, you do need to give up on the anger to move on.
You should contact them and be like “you know what? I don’t forgive you.”
Things like abuse and sexual assult should not be forgiven and if the victim does want to forgive that is all on their terms and no one else's

His son did it as well and their family helped push out and lie about the accuser and their family. The son did it to someone much younger as well.
in our town if any adult confessed to child rape they would "disappear" and the local sheriff would look the other way.
I don't know where this happened, but I wish 16 was considered a sexual minor everywhere. I was assaulted at 16, the jury was convinced I wanted it, the 30 year old man only did time in jail because he provided a gun and tried to hire someone to kill me. He was in jail for two years.

It's probably best to give everyone unconditional forgiveness so that we get the same and we can be at peace with ourselves and others. He is a threat to children.
How do they not get this?
(Edit)
I just want to clarify my position.
