I absolutely agree with you. I noticed it as a teen

As a side note: Back in 1968 there was a movie in the theaters called "Alaskan Safari". It showed the hunters shooting their game around Alaska. Ten years later on TV it was shown and all the shooting was cut out. It stilled showed the guy chasing a porcupine on a sand bar.

when it came on sunday about four thirty , we usually had just came in from a heavy day of brush kicking for rabbits , pheasant , and quail . crosby , singing back and forth with phil harris , reminded me of my grandfather doing the same thing in the field . the depression / world war two generation seemed to unabashedly enjoy singing that way . with the cbs guns of autumn , antihunting piece , narrated by dandy dan rather , the hand writing was on the wall . they seemed to think i would rather watch candice bergen take pictures of elephants . it went down hill from there . intead of taking responsibilty for the demise of the show , they continued their same formula , and killed the show slowly . the rural purge of popular shows like beverly hillbillies , lassie , peddycoat junction and green acres , gave amertica a taste of what was to come . the did as you say , to the best outdoor magazine in existence , sports afield . they turned it away from hunting and fishing shows , and it died quickly. fishing and hunting shows seem to have disappeared in the last few years . i hope can bring back the old fishing shows , that were mainly narrated . .

Thanks for your comments. Yes. It's sad what's happened to fishing and hunting. But it's happened slowly and most people probably didn't even notice. I too loved watching those old shows. So much so, that I eventually started a TV fishing program and worked the next 35 years "in the Industry". While I built a good career and realized success, it was built on becoming a corporate pitchman for a slew of companies who wanted "all promotion, maximum product visibility and endorsement" All of the TIME (or at least at every available opportunity). Sadly, I gave it to them. And yes, they paid me for it. I didn't realize at the time that my "selling out and becoming a on-camera pitchman who pimped products" was drifting me away from why I got in the outdoor TV business in the first place. I look back at those old shows and films and miss how simple things seemed. When the outdoors wasn't about "Who's best" but about sharing quality time with those we care about being connected with nature and our Creator. Thanks again for watching and for your comments. Lots more old films clips will be coming out over the coming months. All the best.

I remember when they changed. I remember watching the shows on Weekends when I was growing up. The hunting and fishing episodes in the late ‘60s early’70s. I loved that show and never watched it much when they changed it.
I also remember going to my middle school in the early’70s to see a show that a traveling adventurer put on in the evening. It was hunting and fishing he would narrate along with the 16 mm films. If I remember correctly my dad and I went 2 years in a row. They were well attended too. I grew up in a pretty affluent area and couldn’t imagine the middle school allowing that now. Such a shame.
I forget what the film maker’s name was but I think he was pretty popular across the country.

Yes I watched it every time I could and I stopped when it made the big change. No hunting no fishing no watching!

I recall seeing the change when I was young and "hanging in there" for many weeks, thinking that surely someone has forgotten about hunting and fishing. Nope. As with many things in life, I've found that my thinking was wrong. Sad to see that show go.

your right about the second opening of the show . your right about it being turned into a spectator sport show . this attitude ruined the best outdoor magazine , sports afield magazine .

Well all those sports were gaining popularity back then. They added it for ratings is my guess. They should of made another show for that. But yea people want us to go away. I loved Curt Gowdy. One of the great ambassador for our sport

I remember watching one (1975?) with Redd Fox bird hunting in Washington State and one section had an actress learning how to hang glide. Very disappointing I watched this show from the beginning. Looked forward to it every Sunday. Like the old saying, "Don't let the camel's nose inside the tent flap." The cancel culture complaining back then about not showing other sports on the show. There was Wide World of Sports for the other sports. They already had their show for that. Another network could have started their own show too. You're right, they wanted to get all outdoor hunting and fishing off TV. Cable TV changed all that for good

Man I used to get so excited to see Mr. Warren as a kid, growing up hunting and fishing. It's just so sad that we as humans have such a strong need for political identity and towing his / her political line.
I mean really, breaking down an old show in some sort of effort to prove a political point?

I've caught an episode where there is the hunting of turkeys, really is this a sport? It's like harvesting a crop wow a game of wits against a dumb bird l love the taste of turkey, but l can get it for under a dollar a pound without all the conniving and false drama.

turkey hunting is harder than deer hunting . get off the couch , if you think it's so easy .
