- In this language challenge, two Turkish speakers from Turkey, Şimal and Ahmet, go up against two Persian speakers from Iran, Shahrzad and Omid. Turkish and Persian belong to two different language families but have influenced one another significantly throughout history. Turkish is the most widely spoken of the Turkic languages and has official status in Tukey and Cyprus. In addition, Turkish is recognized as a minority language in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Iraq, Kosovo, Macedonia, and Romania. Although the majority of Turkish speakers reside in Turkey, large number of Turkish speakers reside in Germany, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Greece, as well as parts of Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. In the 1920s, after the Turkish Republic was established, Atatürk replaced the Ottoman Turkish alphabet with a Latin alphabet.
Persian (Farsi) is an Indo-European language and classified as Indo-Iranian. Persian is primarily spoken in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, as well as some other parts of the Middle East, Central and South Asia. Both Persian and Turkish have influenced one another and in this video we explore these influences and try to see to what extent Turkish and Persian speakers can understand one another. - Розваги

Her name will be Serena, in Persian we say "Sarina". She's due in mid-April, so we'd like to introduce her in a future video this summer :)

Turkish and Azerbaijani may be similar languages, but in Azerbaijani some words are pronounced more like in Persian - like qalb (a as in cat)m or qirmizi etc.So I really think it will be interesting:). @@dtrbl0 nup not true. Nepali language came from Sanskrit which came from Persian. Hindi is just another branch of Sanskrit just like Nepali and Bengali.
When they guess you should write the word on screen in both languages, so we can compare how it is said in both languages :)
That's a good idea! Thanks for that:) I'll try to implement in the future, it may be tough when I switch quickly to the next word, but I'll try to leave some room for it.
Bahador Alast that would be great, you don't have to worry about pace or change anything, now you write the word in english and language they are guessing, just add the word in the language of those who are guessing so we can see on screen how they compare, english on top and below turkish - farsi or whatever two languages are, depending on which side of the screen which language is sitting

Yes, Bahador please do this, we have to open another tab, type and see what is actually different in both words. Also why was the camera losing focusing and exposure repeatedly? some of your previous videos didn't have this problem.
There is 2 ways to do this my friend. 1. use video editing to do it.. 2. Just write on a big paper/cards when you are filming it and show it to the camera. So which one that you think suites you :))

@@supermario7952 they do that with all the languages though. All of them (Arabic Persian Turkish Urdu Spanish) have a LOT of loanwords and historical overlap in their respective development into their modern forms but otherwise are very different because they belong to pretty different branches of languages, just like European languages have that with each other (french or Latin based loanwords, Saxon based loanwords and so on to a degree you can't even identify them anylonger as native speaker).

Almost all the words said in this video are commonly being used in Pashto too, which is an eastern iranian language, (spoken widely in Afghanistan). Pashto, Turkish and Urdu are heavily influenced by Farsi and this shows how connected we are to each other.

These similarities are due to borrowing and influence, but the languages come from completely separate families

Actually Turkish of pre Ataturk era was much more closer to Persian & Arabic, but Ataturk made a linguistic reforms & replaced all words of Non-Turkic origin with Turkic ones. So thanks to Ataturk Turkish is clearly Turkic language today.

50+ years ago, Pakistan, Iran and Turkey were connected with RCD (Regional Cooperation for Development) agreement, the people of all the three countries could visit each other without visa, I know a lot of Pakisttani people visited Iran and Turkey, we used to have student exchange program and colleges and universities of the three countries used to have student tours to one another, but after 1973 things started changing and by 1979 it was finished

I’m a Bukharian Jew , who speaks Hebrew , Bukharian , Russian, and Yiddish, so I really enjoy it. There are so many similarities in authentic Hebrew speakers like pronunciation of q, gh, and your videos highlight this. I get like 50 percent of the words .. keep it up

This was very interesting! I'm an English teacher in a largely immigrant school and we just got a Turkish student. A lot of our students are from Afghanistan and speak Dari, and despite telling me they don't speak each other's language, the Afghan students seem to be having small, successful conversations with the new student. Is the overlap merely lexical, since both languages are not from the same language family? Again, thank you for the great video!
Thanks for sharing that. Yes, that's exactly it. A lot of common vocabulary between the two languages because of historical interactions.
Also Seljuk Turks used the Farsi for administration around 11th century, that left a huge mark on Turkish and you could say Turkish left a mark on Farsi also. Main reason was Farsi has some different letters than Arabic. By than using Arabic alphabet was causing some issues. And Turks started using Arabic alphabet around 9th century, before they were using Orhun Alphabet

We Turks' have so many Persian loanwords'' in our tongue and i think the Persian language was created by some smart people ..warm salutes from TURKIYE to our beloved PERSIAN neighbours.

Big loves to Persian people from Turkey.💟🇮🇷💟.To me, Language of Iran is really nice.Especially Persians are good at creating words.Those words are easy to remember and useful to distinguish small differences for both situations or some related items.our foreign words mainly Persian, and relatively less Arabic and more less French since it is Universal language back in the day.

Kırmızı kelimesi esas olarak Arapça/Farsça kökenlidir, Türkçesi Kızıldır. Unutulmamalı ki biz Anadolu'ya gelirken Farsları egemenliğimiz altına aldık (Selçuklular) o toprakları daha sonra Moğollara kaptırdık ardından tekrar Timur Devleti ile geri aldık yani İran çok uzun süre Türk egemenliğinde kaldı. Sadece biz onlardan değil onlar da bizden kelimeler aldı.

That Jupiter name is interesting. In Georgian Jupiter is Iupiteri now, but that Persian version was used in the past. I know that from 12th century poem.

I am Somali and I want to learn Persian and turkish near future. I don't know the two languages well but I listened both turkish and persian songs. I found turkish 🇹🇷 to sound harsh and artistic language while persian 🇮🇷 sounds soft and elegant language. That is just the opinion of someone who doesn't speak neither of the two languages.

I'm a Turk living in Iran. I know both languages like a native speaker. There are similarities between 2 languages but it doesn't mean that they are 80-90 percent same. There are about 20-30 percent (This is my personal guess ) words in Turkish coming from Arabic and those words mostly are same.

Actually there are simple words, which came from Persian. A lot of languages have Persian words, let’s say persian language influence. Especially Turkic languages. As a kazakh turk, I understood almost every word

Turkish is like: mixed lots of persian, arabic, french and english words with old turkic words and also have its own turkic grammar structure plus nearly all the pronunciation has an asian sound.
In conclusion: i had many foreign friends and when i talk with them in turkish they said “you are talking like mixed of french and persian with japanese accent” and actually i cant say there were wrong :D
