The roll rate of this thing looks insane. I just love the design philosophy behind it, it is small, can be landed on normal streets and can be turned around by conscripted personal, and it still can be a challenge for the best.
not depending on a big juicy target as a landing strip or airfield that the enemy LOVES to take out is what makes it so dangerous and effective. And of course the easy fast maintenance that makes it hit and hide over and over again
Not just a challenge. This thing consistently kept winning 1 vs. 5 encounters in Alaska against latest F-16's flowns by USAF a couple of years ago during NATO simulations.
@@RaXXhaOf course. 🙂 But then there are actually real ”Saab pilots” as well, as in pilots exclusively working for Saab. If you happen to go to an air show where the brand new Gripen E is seen flying, it will be flown by *a Saab pilot* since this new fighter model has not yet entered service with the Swedish Air Force. 😉
Yeah. But we need to make our own Nuclear missiles and airdefense systems. NATO was a mistake. First the mounted down our defense for years saying we do not need a defense, then when we don't have one they say we should join NATO. It's ridiculous.
I imagine that was very hard to film and yet you made it look seamless. The mark of a seasoned pro! Of course, we, all of us expect nothing less! Keep them coming please.

Small jet indeed but sounds like a really big one. Heard them start with a full afterburner on the island of Gotland, an absolutely incredible sound! Fortunately, Gripen C will protect the Swedish airspace for many more years together with its new sibling Gripen E.
I saw the gripen twice today along with the rest of the show program from a park and view area in the so called danger zone 200ft over my head my ears are still ringing love it ! Personally I’d say the gripen is the loudest plane above the rest shown at the show
Maybe the noise from each engine disrupts the other? Like sound waves coming from one way interfering with another equal and opposite wave which creates zero? Idk
Man... As a SAFFER I never get tired of the Gripen. Small, agile and deadly in its class. That modded F-16 powerplant also doesn't hurt, lol... thanks!
The F-16 started out with the GE F-100 engine and later version have the F110, commonality between the F-16 and F-15. The Gripen started with a tuned up version of the GE F-404 but for the Gripen E they employed the F-414G
My guess is that JAS 39 gripen outmatches a F16 in most cases , and this plane is of a older generation with less power and older electronincs as radars and other .
Americans: "jas39gripen don't have stealth.." The Swedes: "well we land on a hidden road in wartime and rearm and refuel in 15 min..we don't need stealth the enemy don't even know what hit them and where we came from. How is your stealth at the big juicy target called a airfield"?=)

Nice filming! Too bad it wasn't painted in the more visible splinter pattern. It got some of that whistling noise like the Hornet, but not as loud as the crazy sounding Hunter.
That sound happens when the plane comes in at high speed but with the engine turned down to idle. That creates a flute kind of effect, and coupled with the doppler effect it creates this amazing sound. Almost like the sound of a ricochet from a bullet. 🙂

The Gripen C/D has been in Thailand for more than a decade, yes? Has done very well in exercises against the Chinese AFAIK. The Thai Air Force had five Gripens in Australia just now, where they performed really well in Pitch Blackmas well. 🙂 We are all waiting for the Thai politicians to make the decision to purchase Gripen E/F as the Thai AF recommends. 🙂
It must be an political thing that SAAB Gripen is hard to sell. They are way better than F16. And the US wants to sell their F16. You don't have to be a rocket engineer to get that thing. It's a shame, Gripen is a formidable aircraft. Like the Swedish subs who sank US aircraft carriers over and over 2 years in an exercise. It's little bit of that here I'll think.
It is NOT allowed to fly displays with armed fighter planes! An accident (crash) could cause many deaths among the spectators, if missiles were to explode...

Great performance of a great pilot from Swedish AF. That plane is like ”wax” in his hands.😅 Fantastic✌️
Not just a challenge. This thing consistently kept winning 1 vs. 5 encounters in Alaska against latest F-16's flowns by USAF a couple of years ago during NATO simulations.
These Saab pilots never turn off the fire 👍🏻
They are actually not Saab pilots. They are display pilots for a Airforce base called F21 located in Luleå Sweden
@@tigerclan3350 He probably meant "SAAB pilots" in the same sense you would call someone driving a SAAB car a "SAAB driver". 😂

Love that noise at 4:07 Awesome display and filming!
that sound was even louder on Friday.
What is making that whistle? I'm guessing it's the air resonance between the canards and the wings?
@@Nighteyes66 i think it's something to do with the turbine because it's coming when they go close to mach 1, maybe some turbulence.

Such an underrated bit of kit but up there with the best.
One of the sharpest Gripen shows ever, nice!
Wow, great display, great filming

Great aircraft as are all the Saabs … even the Tunnan

Pretty fabulous maneuvers of the Gripen as it is nimble and agile 😊

I wonder why the engine is so loud? The F/A 18 have two engines of the same kind (GE F404) and should be a lot noisier (!?)
Maybe the noise from each engine disrupts the other? Like sound waves coming from one way interfering with another equal and opposite wave which creates zero? Idk
It's loud for sure. The F-14, F-111, F-15E are still some of the loudest I've ever personally experienced.
i can tell you that when the display pilot trained for this earlier this week at his home base the whole city heard it
@@tacoenvyTomcat was a loud creature. But the BONE and Fat Amy are the loudest that I’ve heard working the flight line.
Wow really cool exhibition. Looks like the pilot can do whatever he wants in this aircraft.

Excellent filming this beautiful aircraft and all its moves.. 💪😃👍

Maneuvering in the vertical plane is outrageous.

Don’t know what it about the sound of the Gripen. Every time I’m under one I have the urge to run for a bunker.
It's not as dirty as Eurofighter. Their tight turns sound as if they're tearing holes in the sky.
For a single engine fighter, this gives the big boys a run for their money.
Thailand Jas 39 = Lancer Evolution
and, yes, excellent video work!
Wow!!
Was that a negative G rollout at the beginning?
Indeed it was, i have seen this profile before, and i think it's -2,5G
