- On Sunday 16 July, Saab’s test pilot André Brännström won the Paul Bowen Trophy for the Best Solo Jet Demonstration at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) in England. The winner of the coveted award is chosen from displays flown by air force and test pilots from around the world, with some of the most advanced military fast jets participating.
The Paul Bowen Trophy for the Best Solo Jet Demonstration is named in memory of one of the co-founders of RIAT. In 2022, Captain David Szentendrei from the Hungarian Air Force won the same award flying a Gripen C, marking two years in a row a pilot flying a Gripen fighter has won the Paul Bowen Trophy for the Best Solo Jet Demonstration.
Gripen E is the latest version of Saab’s Gripen fighter jet, ordered by Sweden and Brazil. Gripen E incorporates cutting-edge technologies, the latest systems, sensors, weapons and pods to ensure combat advantage, delivering air superiority in highly contested environments. -saab.com

In Thailand we have the Gripen C in service with the military. I hope there will be more Gripen E in the future. ❤😊
A friend of mine have worked for Saab in Thailand. Beautiful country.
Best Greetings from Sweden.
I was reading Thailand has already ordered after USA refused hopes for F-35s
Gripen is better than F16
Sweden can probably not sell Gripen E to Thailand nowadays since we are aspirants to join NATO and since Thailand more and more is becoming an ally of China.
I would be happy though to see you allied with the west instead.
It would be sad if Sweden is not willing to sell Jas39E to Thailand.
That would leave Chinese J10C as the only alternative.
American old technology F16 is too old for newer generation fighter.
หวังว่าGripen Eจะได้มาประจำการที่กองทัพไทย🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭
LOL😂Winner. Really😂😂Only high speed flying. Poor.😅
Those twinkle rolls tho....🎉
Yes not that of a show. I think they are afraid of pushing it to hard. They remember the other crashes. There are way better flights with the C variant some years ago.
I remember being impressed by the old Saab (car) advert on British TV. It began as footage of a Saab driving along a remote road. It accelerated, faster and faster, until suddenly the road ended at a cliff edge and the car transformed into a Saab jet fighter, screaming up into the sky whilst the voiceover calmly announced, "Sierra, Alpha, Alpha, Bravo..."
Incredibly cool advert and an unforgettable bit of imagery.
Wow. I'll search for that advert. Haven't seen that one.
Cool, not seen that one! Only the Tony Scott one with the AJ 37..

Gripen is one impressive system 👍🏻
Very impressive. At the end the announcer said the pilots name (André Brännström) which is the same pilot that was featured in the famous ”Gripen and g-force” video that Saab put out themselves. No doubt a very skilled pilot.
Indeed a well experienced pilot!
And here is Andre being interviewed by C.W Lemoine ua-cam.com/video/LRR3mXOwAPY/v-deo.html
There are a few interviews with Andre´ here on YT. Just search his full name + pilot, and they will pop up. Some very interesting conversations. He´s been around for awhile.👍

The TECHNICAL opinion of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) pilots led Brazil to opt for the GRIPEN E, among its competitors RAFALE and F-18 SUPER HORNET.
These delta canards do seem to have this "grip" to air that more traditional aircraft don't have.
Planes like F-18, SU-27, F-15 are like rally cars on a gravel road and very impressive about it too but delta canards are like F1 cars.
Have you seen the F-16?
@@AugmentedGravity No, it was so far behind so I had left the area when it arrived...
@@coole6825 oh, hi
Exactly. This is also what Gripen pilots says when dogfight training with Norwegian F-16 and Finnish F/A-18: Gripen will outmaneuver them with higher sustained turn rate. You have to look out for the F/A-18 thought as it can point it's nose at a very high angle of attack and get gun shots away! 🤓
No?@@bjornnordstrom
Some of these turns are insane! Dogfights are rare in modern air-to-air combat but I'd feel pretty good as a pilot in this if I had to go into one.
UA-cams audio settings do not do this video the justice these jets deserve. They’re even more spectacular in person when your eardrums and chest vibrate. The 2 variations with 5 flights between them on sunday really stole the show.
That's why people who haven't been to an airshow with fast jets will never understand the madness and addiction to airshows. Everything is bigger, closer, louder, and faster! And the smell of smoke and fumes!
@@mvflights and the f35 and spanish harrier hovering! side by side is almost unbelievable to see by a single jet let alone the two generations. I like you say am thoroughly addicted since biggin hill, but theres no where near as many jets as usual. Its a shame the war is causing less of the jets to appear.
But thats not youtubes fault. It's mostly bad because of the mic/recording system and your audio listening system. Just saying.... 😇
J35 Draken and J37 Viggen did much more rumble so when they started to fly Gripen I thought the sound was like a vacuum cleaner.

Hey Swedes my country 🇳🇿 hasn't operated fighter jets in like 20 years but we are about to have a change in government. And the ones that are going to be our new government said that they will purchase fighter jets. They were looking at the super hornets or the f35's but I think both of those are not right because the super hornet is outdated and the F35 is extremely expensive to fly. Can you offer us some Gripen E jets please. It would suit our country because like you we don't have a huge defence budget although that is going to be increased.🙃
Our jetfighters look so good. Best looking jetfighter. And great flying by André.

@@faithosadebe5293 You misunderstand me . I mentioned that a Hungarian Gripen won last year this Award .
The best there is. Simply put. F-cking amazing!
The Gripen would be a best seller if the US didn’t use underhanded methods for countries to choose the F-35 if you’re a rich country, or the F-16 if you’re poor. In the end both planes will be more expensive to operate.
And not more competent.
Sweden is a head of almost everything, weapons too but now because Putin we must stay strong and help
With delta design with the exception of the placement of the engine -- this plane is a good candidate for stealth fighter ---- so agile - so fast - so much technology and cheap to operate.
Very true! Still waiting for it to be in Philippine airspace!
@@phillipbanes5484 stealth is overrated, for fighters that are defending a place rather than invading one (enemy radar /SAMs are typically not in your own country)
A non-stealth plane typically has more external hardpoints, which makes it overall more versatile - multimission multitarget capable.
(i.e eurofighter typhoon carries a shitload more stuff under the wings than the very expensive american stealthy thingies - also they can launch more of them for the same amount of money, and at some point one has to wonder what is weighting more in a war)
Yes, the raptors are sexy, and certainly fit for purpouse - however, there are not so many purpouses anymore due to limitations of the stealth design.
Given choice and unlimited funds, i like to have a couple of stealthfighters for special missions , and a couple of more conventional planes like gripen and typhoon for the more than likely situation where weaponry and manuverability matters more than ninjaskills.
Fortunately i am just an armchair general 🙂
I was told it price at $40m is that true..
@@zoolkhan nah.. You really make lot of sense.. Having them all for various mission is what matters most..
No aircraft is ' cheap ' to fly and the tax man uses your money doing it. But Gripen E is cheaper to fly than most modern military aircraft. The export cost of Gripen E is not known as so far only Brazil purchased them but they also had full technology transfer so that production could be indigenous. The rough price to Brazil was about $115 M per aircraft. That figure would be lower if it had been a straight forward purchase. F35A seems to have a purchase price of around $170 M ( Germany, Finland and Switzerland ) to non partner countries again that price includes training, weapons, spare parts and flight simulators so not an exact figure. Rafale F3R to India cost $255 M per unit. Picking out what it actually costs to build modern aircraft is difficult but F35A purchase price to the USAF was as low as $80 M but that was probably without add-on extras . So a big difference between export and internal purchases and those figures should not be confused or the extra price of purchasing an export licence.

I hope Ph will also soon have the Gripen. Saab has already established an office in our country and I know the Swedish government has already approved of the sales of the gripen to SE asia.
Not because i live in Sweden but this is a very very good fighter jet,top 3..maby even 2nd best after f35
The F-22 is undoubtedly the most manoeuvrable fighter. The "flat spins" that jet can do are kind of physics defying, thanks to its gigantic controllable rear wing areas and thrust vectoring. This also makes the F-22 near impossible to stall. The F-35 isn't far off, but it is a multi-role jet while the F-22 is pure air superiority.
The Gripen E is definitely up there as one of the most manoeuvrable jets.
Yes f22 if far better!!! i live in sweden and even rafale eurofighter su 57 maybe some more? are better, but its good for a small country as sweden to do this capable plane!
@@TheRealDuckofDeathDidn’t US Air Force stop using them? To expensive to fly.
@hemligx-sson8202 They stopped building them with 150 active because they indeed are crazy expensive. It's about 149 _more_ than they need for air superiority 😅 At least for shooting down Chinese "weather balloons". The plants have been refitted to only build the "cheap" F35s.
To me the most beautiful fighter jet ever, almost more then F-16 😊 And I don't doubt in it's capabilities, it can carry amazing span of armament, A2A and A2G, and some pods as well.

JAS is an acronym for Jakt/Attack/Spaning indicating the swing role. Shouldn’t be spelled Jas.
Thank you for the correction. will keep this in mind for the next 2 gripen uploads.
This is correct, it´s like calling a Viggen "JA", it´s caused by sloppy journalists.
Gripen E make it leave its multi-role.
The Gripen E is a Omni Role fighter jet. Can engage different targets at the same time.
@@mvflightsthe meaning is jakt = hunt, attack = the same 😉, spaning = search/recon. So in english it would be called something else. JAS stands for that the plane is built to do all of that work. Earlier planes had J only or JA and so on. For instance AJ37 Viggen had the capability to attack and some hunt. Later there where JA that hade capability of hunt and attack. SH37 was search and sea-recon. So thats what the JAS stands for and Gripen is the name for it and the letter after is which version. The Gripen E is an upgrade that is way better then when it came out. Its like a totally different airplane even if it looks the same

Same also in my home country, Philippines, military progression is between the gripen and f-16. The gripen is definitely cheaper than the f-16's, but there was also the talks about f-16 has more support in terms of the after sales maintenance as it has already been in the military world for a long time and many countries have also been using the f16. I also like to have the gripen over the f16 for my country's next jets.

Best fighter ever this one...dont need stelth - its to agile anyway and smart
Has apparently 0.1m2 RCS so in that regard it is stealth without having a dedicated stealth hull, that along with it's EW suite to make fake radar copies of itself i think it manages ok while also being agile as you say
It is really agile! no wonder it won the best solo jet performance of the show.
@Alex-cf9cn very informative. Thank you for sharing it.
@@Alex-cf9cn RCS is not a single numer, it's spectra. Every angle of the aircraft reflects a different amount of radar signal. If you want to make a RCS model, you should at least have one numer for every degree of angel. Around each axis (X,Y and Z), there are 360 different values respectively. So, to make a simplified model, you should at least have 360x360x360=46,656,000 of different values. Presenting only one number out of 47 million is a bit too much simplified... 😏
The F-39 E system of EW is the answer regarding the stealth buddy feature. Gripen NG is the air hacker.
Congratulations, Sweden and Brazil, to deploy this platform to another level.
it's time for Saab to design a new gripen car
Who were the other participants?
What a nightmare it would be , To put on another engine and load it up with warheads, and control it remotely. 😮
We may never now what the future will bring. Drones are already being used in modern warfare... So it's not possible.
Good demo, but not sure how it was voted better than the Belgian F-16 🤔
I'm also clueless about that. I was just thinking of what criteria they have in judging the displays. Like to display pilots needs to maintain a certain speed, or altitude. Or how fluent their rolls and loops are. To the public, we only see how fast how high and how dynamic the display is. But to the judges I'm not sure how they judge these displays. How they tell one is better than the other. Hope someone can read this comment and give us info on how the displays are being judged. Thanks for your comment and visit. JAS39 E is a 4.5 Generation design. Does not have any explicitly designed stealth characteristics. Is subject to the same infrared weakness from behind due to its engine heat. It has a complimentary sensor suite and in combination with a new AWS under development will make it formidable in grouped/linked attack scenarios. It currently carries a ~2.5 defeat ratio in simulated forays with the current F-35A. (It takes 2.5 Gripens to defeat a F-35A). The new linked AWS has not been displayed in public, so it hasn't been assessed yet. It's ability to be serviced in remote zones is a quality few can match. Ukraine would very much like to create a squadron of these models to defend its airspace.
In Red Flag NATO war games against F16, two, maybe three years ago, three Gripen C was up against 5 F16. The results were 0-5, 0-5, 1-5 to Gripen.

🤡 Tell that to the judges, little keyboard warrior.
Both the Rafale and Finnish F-18 displays were superior. The Gripen E in some instances appeared somewhat sluggish as compared to the original Gripen A or C. And I am guessing that is because its instantaneous performance suffers because of all the weight it gained while basically using only a slightly larger wing. And its high alpha pass was not impressive at all.
Guess the judges didn’t agree with you then, as the Gripen won the trophy! I wonder why … desk jockey?
@@Hiznogood Sure Lars. Just compare the turn rates, roll rates, alpha of the Rafale to the Gripen. No comparison, the Rafale has spent a career of having that lightweight (or now fatter E) in its HUD.
USA is kind of a superpower with ridiculous amount of money and owns the market. Sweden just making jets for our own country, selling some to fund it. go cry about it some where else.
I am for Rafale, it's simply a better jet vs Gripen. The Rafale put on a superior display. The judges probably voted for Gripen as a moral boost. It has even less power and load capability than a yank F-16. Also, you talk tuff when you have US on your side. If it wasn't for the yanks the soviets would have rolled over you nordics. And you would have statues of Stalin and Lenin in your capitals.

one engine only...too bad for military aircraft
So ignorant. F16 and F35 are also single engine aircraft’s. “Too bad for military aircraft”. 🤡
F16 was better
WAS.
The gripen is can do things F16 cant do, because the size and f16 is much more expensive.
