    Nicely done!
    On my ‘14 I read about potential sub frame cracking with a top box.
    I installed “The Stiffy” support brace to hopefully prohibit that cracking problem.
    I don’t load the top box heavily as well.

    Just installed the Heli-bars just like yours on my 2018. I agree with you concerning routing the throttle cables and clutch cable under and between the forks tubes. Of course I didn't watch your video until after I installed them. Now I have to re-route the above cables tomorrow. Thank you very much for your video. Huge help.

    Man, that is a beautiful ride. Gonna be a hard choice for my next bike between the FJR, the BMW R1250RT, and the Honda Gold Wing (non-Tour model). Luckily I'm not looking to replace my current bike for 2-3 years, so I have plenty of time to think it over!

    Thanks for putting up this video. I am really looking hard at this bike (Actually, the non-ES version. I just don't see a need for an electronic suspension.) My only real concern with the bike was riding position/angle. Never rode a sport or sport touring bike before. Just standard and cruiser. Now I know if I end up getting the bike and down the line I don't like the riding position, there are mods to make it more like a cruiser with better lean angle.

      I came to this exact bike from a Honda Shadow ACE 1100 cruiser. I can tell you it's different, but for me in only good ways. I broke my tailbone as a youth, so sitting upright to forward as opposed to leaning back added many hours to my riding day. where before i would become fidgety in a couple or a few hours, i can now ride for 6 hours or more very easily.

    Nice bike. Too bad Yamaha couldn't squeeze shiny paint into the budget. 6th gear seems like a good idea, but I like the gear whine from my 2013 - sounds like warp speed approaching. Unsure about the 'cage' thing (unnecessary weight) or bar risers (shoulda got a GoldWing), but of course the rear trunk is a must-have. I do admire your nerve putting the big guy up on a Harbor Freight lift. Tried it with mine and won't be doing it again - scary.

    I love your videos so thank you so much for doing these. I just bought the identical bike two days ago. Amazing bike with only 1700 miles. It was in the dealer a couple days before I bought it getting the 2nd gear recall done. Everything to me and the first owner seemed great until on my 40 mile return ride home that night I noticed a block from my home my left boot was covered in oil and so was the lower half of the bike including the rear tire (so lucky I didn't loose the bike honestly). Turns out the clutch slave cylinder oil seal popped out and was put back incorrectly by the dealer. After getting it picked up and trailed back by the dealer its supposedly cleaned and fix :( so they say. They put new Michelin tires on it, new brake pads a couple new panels will be replaced replaced as well.
    For my trouble and probably to help dodge a lawsuit they are giving me pretty much whatever I want in accessories including labor. My question for you is primarily what should I for sure get? I'm 55 and 6'2 & I like everything you've done to your FJR and wondered how after a couple years your liking everything you've done and what would you change if anything. Probably my biggest concern was I noticed early on my one and only ride home that my right wrist hurt (arthritic from braking it 40yrs ago playing football) and wondered if riser bars would be the answer as I didn't have much the same issue with my Yamaha FJ09 and my past Indian Chieftain. Thank you so much for your consideration on these questions and hope to hear back when you get a moment.

      Good to hear from you sir, sorry to hear that you had troubles. I believe you are correct about the handle bar risers. I consider them a must for the FJR. I use the Helibar riser plate on my FJR's, that makes a huge difference in comfort for me. If you only do one mod on yours I suggest putting on the helibar riser plate for sure. Good luck with your new ride and keep safe out there... :)

    I purchased a 2018 ES same color as yours. My transmission whines so much I am about ready trade it in on another cycle due to the transmission. I bought this for touring but I cannot put up with whine for hours at a time. I have asked the dealer check twice and both times said that is normal with this transmission. I sat on one and looked more sporty to me than touring. I am mostly looking for comfort, wind protection. Performance is secondary. Would you recommend this to someone who has a riding profile like me? or would a regular bagger or touring motorcycle is best.

      Hello there sir... good to hear from you... I have always found the FJR to be a very comfortable bike. They are built for long haul touring and I enjoyed traveling on them. However the FJR is quite big and heavy and can be a hand full at times even for the most experienced rider. You might consider a bike that is not so heavy as the FJR... I have been on some bikes for the last few years that are around 500lbs and less and find traveling on them to be much easier and less stressful than muscling the big FJR around loaded with gear. There are a lot of new adventure touring bikes on the market now.. it is a buyers smorgasbord out there... any how that is my 2 cents for what it is worth... thanks for watching and happy bike hunting... :)

      Hello sir, good to hear from you. Yes my FJR1300 was a 2018 model with the 6 speed transmission. All bikes with the six speed gear box manufactured up to November of 2020 were recalled. I had my dealer order a service kit for my bike back in January 2021. When the end of May 2021 rolled around and the dealer still had not received the service kit I contacted Yamaha directly to inquire as to what the hold up was on my parts. I was told by Yamaha that the service kits were all on back order and they had no idea when service kits would be available again in North America. At that point I decided to sell my FJR and get a different bike for this season which is what I did. I am hoping to pick up another FJR in a year or two after all this crazy crap ends and the world gets back on course. Most of the people that I have heard from that had the recall work done on their FJR's had good luck with the recall work. I only heard from a couple of people that had some issues with the service work. So if you have a dealer that can get the service kit for you I would say have the work done and then forget about it... Thanks for watching... good luck and keep safe out there... :)

      Well, the point I am trying to make here (would love to hear your point of view as well) is that, people of our age group I.e. 50s, will not be pushing the 2nd gear that hard for it to break. And if that is the case, why bother have a dealership tinker with a factory built engine.
      It just make me shudder every time I think of my 2020 FJR in the hands of local dealership, working on the recall...

    I never understood why someone would buy an FJR which has a specific seating position & then manipulate everything on the bike to change it. Why not just buy a bike that fits you better? All those add-ons make the bike look cheap. That little extension off the master cylinder would drive me nuts (the looks of it). But to each it's own I guess.

    • @cyclistman6358
      @cyclistman6358 5 років тому +4

      There’s far more to a motorcycle than how it fits you. The FJR has some really great qualities and modifying ones position to fit your body type is the proper thing to do to complete your overall experience. I have a 2014 FJR and love it and have changed a few things to customize it to my preference.

    • @johnc8910
      @johnc8910 5 років тому +5

      Any motorcycle is designed for an "average" (whatever that is) rider. If you ride many miles, you will eventually customize your bike, even if you have something like an FJR that is designed for the long haul.
      Nearly every FJR rider (including me) changes three things:
      1: The windshield. The stock windshield looks nice, but if you are taller than about 5'10, on a long trip (what this bike is designed for), the wind will beat you to death.
      2: Handlebar risers. Many motorcycles will let you change handlebars rather easily. Not the FJR.
      3. The seat. On all the FJR forums that I have been on, I have seen only two people that actually liked the stock seat. After my second long trip, 4100 miles, I gave up on the stock seat.
      OB is coming from a 2013 FJR, so he already knows what works. If you are starting from scratch, here is how to do it. You take the stock bike and take it on a semi-long trip (1,000 miles or so). When you get back, you fix what bothers you the most. Repeat and fix what bothers you next. After you have done that 3 or 4 times, you should have the bike pretty well dialed in.
      In my case, I got pretty lucky. I bought a barely used (630 miles) 2013 FJR in 2014. The previous owner had installed a different brand of handlebar riser plate that fit me perfectly. This is the first bike I have owned that after 3 or 4 hours that hasn't left me with a painful knot between my shoulder blades. I was younger then (I am 72 now); I just . . . endured.
      First long trip that summer: 2700 miles. The wind beat me up. Ordered a taller windshield. That fixed that. I figured the seat was adequate. The 4100 mile trip in 2015 cured me of that. Got a better seat, not a great seat, but better, "better" defined as "a good 500 or 600 mile a day seat". My long trip (6000 miles) next year showed me that I am almost there. I am still debating if I want to lower the rider footpegs.
      I have ridden (round trip) 1500 miles to eat lunch ("The Last Ride of the Year",
      Dec. 30, 2016 to the Stagecoach Cafe, Stockton, AL.
      Here is an old video about an FJR set up for long distance rallying:
      ua-cam.com/video/vYqsUy-hXw8/v-deo.html
      It is purpose built for the Iron Butt Rally, a giant scavenger hunt. If you cannot ride 11,000 miles in 11 days, you will not be competitive.
      The FJR is a VERY good choice for this. In 2015, the FJR took first place and 5 out of 6 top places.

      That has to be one of the most ignorant statements I have read. Not everyone is 5'-8", 175# with 30" inseam. Do you leave the car seat and mirrors in the factory position? of course not, you adjust them so you are comfortable, common sense.

    • @Airtouch67
      @Airtouch67 4 роки тому

      @@betoney1 Ignorant? Really? Your analogy makes absolutely NO SENSE. So, let me ask you this. If you wear size 32/34 pants, do you buy pants that are 29/36? Then do you add fabric to the waist and cut 2 inches off the legs? NO. If you wear a medium t-shirt, do you buy an x-tra large and put it in a de-hydrator so it fits? NO, you buy things that actually fit dumbass. So, if you are 5 foot 3, don't buy a V-Strom 1000 or BMW 1250, etc. If you weigh 135 pounds, don't buy a 700 pound bike. I see this all day long in the biking community. Adding lowering links, cutting this off, putting this on.. you are compromising all the factory engineering that goes into that bikes overall function, PERIOD. So once again smartass, but a bike that actually FITS you. And, going by your car analogy with the mirrors and seat - you are talking about simply adjusting a factory installed part. To make the comparison you are so pissed about, that means you would be removing the car mirrors to install a "different" set of mirrors and removing and replacing the car seat to accommodate your preference. Apples to oranges my friend. If you can't see correctly out of the car mirror you hit a button, adjustment it for 2 seconds, and your DONE. Not remove the mirror and add a 2" extension to it. Anything making sense in that little brain of yours?

      @@Airtouch67 I have ridden street and dirt bikes for over 45 years and modify them to fit me ergonomically. If I was a short person would I only buy a 125-200cc bike? if I am a big guy do I only buy tall adventure bikes? Of course not, that's why there are so many aftermarket parts available to tailor any given bike to suit different sized riders. If you find a bike that you like but it doesn't fit perfectly, no one would pass on a great bike, when the solution is simple and readily available. Common sense.
