The nihilistic shadow that loomed over postwar Hollywood was at its darkest in 1950, the year when the highest number of noir films were released. Ranging from canonical classics to hidden gems, these movies found directors like Nicholas Ray, Billy Wilder, and John Huston pushing noir beyond hard-boiled detective stories and hybridizing it with other genres: social-problem films tackling racism (NO WAY OUT) and mob violence (TRY AND GET ME!), melodrama and “women’s pictures” (CAGED, THE DAMNED DON’T CRY), heist capers (THE ASPHALT JUNGLE), road movies (GUN CRAZY), and even cynical self-portraits of Hollywood itself (SUNSET BOULEVARD, IN A LONELY PLACE). Exemplars of a move toward realism in Hollywood-many feature location shooting; true-crime sources; a grittier, less glamorous visual palette; and bleaker endings-these films exemplify the studio system at its peak, as well as the radical changes coming to the movies and the country itself. - Фільми й анімація
One of Humphrey Bogart's finest performances, In A Lonely Place. Such a masterpiece!
In a Lonely Place (1950) is easily one of my favorite 1950s noir-no, one of my all-time favorite movies.
I love the look of those classic noir films but surprisingly I’ve never watched one before. I guess I’ll use this as a great opportunity to watch one
"Sunset..." is my fave fave noir!
In a Lonely Place is a masterpiece. Where the Sidewalk Ends is fantastic as well.
IN A LONELY PLACE is one of my very favorite noirs. 👏🏼
Ah, the good old days - back when everyone was wholesome 😉
Wonderful pick, thanks for advices what to watch.
Arguably the best decade for noir
Night and the City is/was the most unusual one out of all these titles. Painfully hard to find a decent copy. Hopefully they're re-releasing it on bluray as I missed out the first time.
heyy im lookinh for these kinda recommendations
thanks yall
Cant wait till we get this in europe!
Little trivia for you: Gun Crazy had another (better) title: "Deadly Is The Female"
Any one know what the name of the movie is of the last scene of the woman saying. “Ooo I don’t think I like you.” Please.
The Breaking Point. Phenomenal film.
The Breaking Point
@@KwaIifiedThank you!
@@GoldenwhateverThank you, if you’re looking for another incredible film I highly recommend The Trial. (1963 or (1962)
Wait, where is "Angels with filthy souls"?
That clip from Home Alone was a parody of the classic 1938 Gangster film, Angels With Dirty Faces, starring James Cagney in the lead. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it.
@@azohundred1353 Oh, thank you, I didn't know that !
I only watch old movies these days
aaahhh noir! where 30 year old women look like 50 and attractive as hell!
