  • One of the earliest known settled sites in West Virginia keeps producing 1700's Treasures but honestly this find could be amazing.

Hey Todd we are anxious up here in the far north to get out and detect. Snow still on the ground. I think that is a coin for sure. Great save!

Some great finds there. Love the button variety and if that coin is a Farthing, that would be a very old coin indeed. Great hunt Todd

True history seeker battling with frozen earth. Let's say farthing. Absolutely no hint of a shank. It's amazing something from the 1600's can still be found. Great effort!

Glad you enjoyed it Lynne. I do find another coin near there, a 1758 Pistareen so coins at this site are very old. If not a Farthing, I don't know what else it could be. It's definitely not a button and the weight and size fits the British Farthing as does the material it's made from. I just wish I could make out some identifying detail but from what I've researched, details on these thin coins are rarely ever found. I can always dream right? LOL

Todd, that looked exhausting digging in frost and ice, especially one handed. I never knew what a farthing was, I learned something new once again from you. Loved the buttons and buckles. Awesome hunt.👏👍😀

Thanks 👍 I had sent the photo out to some coin experts and this is what the consensus was. I had never heard of a Farthing either. The photos are what was sent to me. Is it? Can’t prove it without an identifying mark but with the weight and size and color, this is what was given me so I would say it’s legitimate as anything else. I do find my 1758 Reale near it and found that other 1600’s coin. In spite of the difficulty in digging I was pleased at what was found that day for sure. Thanks for sharing

Nice buttons Todd, I don't like digging in frozen or Hard ground It's a lot of work , but it can be worth it .

Excellent finds! If a farthing, could be an oldest of your finds?? Where there's one, there's more!!! Fingers crossed!👍🏻

Could be. I think it is. I have hundreds of buttons and a broad array of rivets and none look like this not match the size and weight. I do find a silver at this site almost as old. I just dug it a week ago.

Oh boy Tom that ground was like chopping up concrete. I did real well considering I had to pick and choose the targets given I couldn’t dig them all. I was whipped!

    Todd,
That one thing in the back "looks" like a straight razor.
I hope that is a Farthing.
You need a pickaxe for that kind of ground:)
    Cheers,
    Rik Spector
