Art Adventure: Breaking Down a Massive Abstract Painting
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- In this video, I take you through my process of creating some abstract art backgrounds using a large 22"x30" piece of Arches cold press watercolor paper and a color palette from The Color Cube. I demonstrate how I paint a huge abstract painting with watercolor and acrylic paints, which I then cut up into three smaller abstracts based on compositions I find appealing. By working on multiple pieces simultaneously, I show how painting backgrounds to revisit later can inspire further additions and help bring each artwork to completion. Join me as I explore the journey from a single canvas to multiple finished pieces, offering insights into my creative process along the way.

Anytime pink and ochre are involved I'm here for it!
Right? I love them together!! Thank you! 🥰
I have all my supplies right in front of me and here I sit watching video after video 😂
Have fun! 🎨 Thank you! 🥰
Appreciate the honesty because, well….me too!! ❤
Ditto!😁👏🏻
I love this creativity! Denise, I would challenge you to do what you offered, flip it over, blind cut 6 even pieces, and then create a series from it! That way, we can see the multi layers of underpaintings and then all the "toppings" with all those yummy art supplies...teaching us how best to use them all!!??
Thank you! 🥰
I really like that you left more white than you normally do.
Hopefully I can keep some of that when I add more layers 😁
Denise, I wanted you to know that you have given me courage to not instantly cut up artwork I don’t like. I had a piece that I stenciled with ugly paint and decided to go over it with white tissue paper. It didn’t completely cover the ugly paint, but it helped. Then I took some Indian ink and dribbled it and let it run and then on top of that watercolor. It looks better than it did lol. It definitely was fun to play and to experiment. Thank you for the courage.
That really makes my day!! Thank you! 🤗🤗🤗
I LOVE this colour combo! 😍
Thank you! 🥰
Hi Denise, pinks are not my ‘thing’, but I absolutely love the end result. The possibilities are endless with this approach. Thank you for yet another enjoyable video experience. Love from California ❤
So glad you loved it! Thank you! 🥰
See you later for what you do next on these. As always Denise, I love your wor. 🙂
See you then!! 🎨 Thank you! 🥰
Okay, this looks so fun and so freeing. Two more chores and then I get to paint today! Yessssss 😂🎉 Can’t wait!
These are definitely fun and a bit freeing! Thank you! 🥰
Pink yeeeeeessss. These colors speak to my soul. I love it Denise. So pretty. Thanks for showing us that we can go big. Hope you have a great week girl.😊
I love those colors together too! Thank you! 🥰
I get a big smile on my face when I see a new video on my feed. You are always so bright and sunny and your videos are such interesting lessons. Thank you for sharing. I loved the pink and yellow ocher combo!
You’re the best. That really made my day. Thank you! 🥰
Yummmmm!!! Delicious closeups!!! 😍
I did a smaller version of this a few times and it is very freeing to just have at it! "RAWWRR" indeed! 🤣 So glad you reminded me of these!
So glad you loved it!! Thank you! 🥰
Super fun, thanks Denise!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you! 🥰
Yummy colors!❤
Thank you! 🥰
I love this! When you said adventure, you meant ADVENTURE. I am going to give this a try.
I did!! 😂 So glad you loved it!! Thank you! 🥰
Denise, I love how these came out and looked fun to do! I make bookmarks with extra painting pieces I have left over! Thanks for sharing 🥰
So glad you loved it! Thank you! 🥰
Ooooo! More of that!!! Yeah!
Thank you! 🥰
I like the landscape orientation for those rather than portrait orientation... enjoyable!
Thank you! 🥰
These are beautiful. I can see them as a set of landscapes in different orientations. I have one very large sheet that I bought so many years ago. It will have to wait though as I’m committed to two other projects I have committed myself to finish this year. Thanks again Denise, waiting to see how you finish this project.❤😻
So glad you enjoyed it!! Thank you! 🥰
Holy WOW, I barely started watching and I’m so excited!!! YES!!! I have one of those giant sheets of 22x30 - eeeeeek!!!!! 🎉
You'll love giving those big sheets a go!! 😁
Loved this. Cant wait for part 2. I recently discovered your channel and I am having so much fun. I've been painting loose florals mostly for a few years so abstract is somewhat out of my comfort zone, but your videos are so inspiring. Thank you!
So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you! 🥰
Those are *gorgeous* Denise ❤I've been wanting to try something like that and I think you've pushed me over the edge :)
Go for it! 🎨🎨🎨 Thank you! 🥰
Great colours! Love the result! I have a few big sheets….this is a great approach. Thanks for the idea!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you! 🥰
Definitely going to try this! Thanks for sharing and showing a new concept!!!
Have fun! Thank you! 🥰
Thank you, Denise. Great job again. I love the colour palette. It’s so funny how every other UA-cam artist is using pink lately. I wonder what the art gods are trying to tell us?😊 I do like the white space, this is my number 1 biggest challenge to leave more white. I cannot wait to see more.
I feel your pain! White space is so important
So glad you enjoyed this one! Thank you! 🥰
You are an amazing artist who love to teach! Thankful 🙏
Thank you! 🥰
Very fun! Three for the price of one. Hoping you will do a video when if you decide to do more with them. Thank you, Denise.🤗
I plan to!! Thank you! 🥰
So cool. I hope you'll share the finishing process :)
I plan to! Thank you! 🥰
I've actually never tried a larger work like that. I've made smaller works like that though and would usually use whatever paint was left from making a bigger piece. I have to admit that I never used watercolours as much. I probably should have but just never did. Thanks for showing what happens with them. :) Isn't it AMAZING what can be done in art!? I think it is. When I was working with paints more, I would try EVERYTHING too... we're talking plastic spoons, knives, etc. Just to see what designs could be made with them! Have you ever done that sort of thing!? It's really fun! I used to be HUGE into artcards as well... 2.5" X 3.5" and would cut those the same way that you show here. I haven't done that in awhile but need to get back to it. It's so much fun. Anyway, love your video!
So glad you enjoyed this! Thank you! 🥰
Denise love that we got to see you paint on larger scale and be really more expressive in painting and mark making, the colours worked really well. The pencil wandering at first made me think of Paul Klee saying "Drawing is like taking a line for a walk" . the final pieces make a great quartet (Matt) P.s my Mungyo Oil pastels arrived,a great companion to the soft pastels which I have as well,so glad to you inspired me to get both sets
Lugged a large book containing Paul Klee paintings (also Picasso) home from a trip to Switzerland/Germany a number of years ago. I had never hear of him until I went to a private museum while in Lucerne and fell in love with his work. I will have to pull out the book again. Thanks for the reminder. 🙂
I love that... drawing is like taking a line for a walk! So cool... glad you love the pastels... they are some of my favorite!! Thank you! 🥰
This was phenomenal to watch. How does this paper not warp?
It did pretty good not warping! It was a big sheet of arches. I usually have good luck with the arches even on the smaller sizes. Thank you! 🥰
What brand of watercolor is the Napthol Pink you used?
That is the SoFlat acrylic paint. I linked those below the video if you want to check those out. ☺️
Than you for such beautiful inspiration I love this. You always do such a great job and I have learned so much from you Always such a great attitude and it comes thru in your videos. The best to you!
