If you wanna talk extra details, Luigi is actually very vocal in this game; both his "call for Mario" button and his humming of the main theme actually have multiple recordings dependant on how much health Luigi has. The lower his health gets, the more shaky and scared his tone of voice gets, to the point where his calls for Mario tonally change from, "Where are you, Mario?" to, "Save me, Mario!!" It's a small fact that I've always latched onto with this game.
I love the fact he says '' And then Luigi GETS him ''. Like i find that so funny and entertaining 💀 and the Outro is also good, watched the video until the end just for it lmfao
Luigi doesn't laugh like a crazy person. Hes overcome with emotion after finally seeing his brother. Luigi did not usually get many adventures without mario so im sure after being bamboozled by a winning a mansion, haunted by ghosts, and facing that all alone the first thing he wanted so badly was his brother.
I love and hate how successful the first game was. It forever and permanently changed Luigis personality to always being afraid of ghosts/darkness/haunted houses. It bled into SMG and every other iteration of the character since. I miss the chill brother that would tag along with Mario only if Mario needed a P2.
Something I really liked about this game, the people ghost don't feel like enemies. They feel like lost the souls trapped in a loop. I finished Luigi's Mansion 3, and all the ghosts in that game really feel like enemies, which makes the game feel less haunted instead of more. Luigi's Mansion was creepy AF growing up and you are not the only person who did not want to initiate combat with that ghost
Man, this was the game I played the most as a 4 year old, but never actually finished it till 16 years later on an emulator. But just walking around and seeing all the weird ghosts and strange happenings was so cool as a small lad lol
I love Luigi's Mansion so much. It's such a fun game and honestly still holds up. The atmosphere and music were so well done that I replayed it multiple times just to feel that again. It's a shame there wasn't a game on the Wii, since it really made sense. Ghost catching with the wii motion controls is so obvious. I do agree the sequels weren't as good. Dark Moon was fun but the exploration never felt solid. LM3 was much better, especially since it was just one building again. But the lack of interconnectivity between the areas kinda brought it down for me. Plus, having King Boo as the villain again was really tired. I know they're probably going for the Mario and Bowser dynamic here, but I think it would be better to have new ghostly threats show up in each game.
I think the short length actually works to it's benefit, the game has a very arcadey structure to it especially with the focus on improving your score through the mansion at the end so I think being short enough for you to continuously play through and try to keep doing better and perfecting your play is part of the idea.
After watching the Bowser and King Boo fight, I have a theory on what's actually going on there. Japan has a long established belief that crafted objects that exist for a long time, like 100 years or more, can become "enspirited" and gain a will of their own, or be possessed by malicious spirits. There is an entire subclass of Yokai made up of such enspirited objects. Portraits fall under this category, and the Western World also has a belief in the idea of haunted portraits. The idea is that a well-made portrait can capture the essence of a person, but is only an imitation of the original. Based on this information, I suspect that Portrait Bowser is just that, a completely normal portrait of Bowser that King Boo enspirit's when he jumps inside. Portrait Bowser has the abilities of normal Bowser because the portrait is well made, but he is still just an imitation, which King Boo wears like a costume, and can manipulate even when not inside it. Once King Boo is trapped in the Poltergust 3000, he can no longer control the imitation, so it falls just like the real Bowser would, and the portrait returns to it's normal state, freeing Luigi.
I remember when you first release the boos getting stuck there because at the time I didn't know that the button to release them or video game forums exist
You're funnier than most of our local comedians. You've got the part!! Nintendo have always had an emphasis on music as well as as contextual music cleverly integrated in gameplay. Musical genius!
So, you attributed Luigi not being able to jump to his vacuum backpack being too heavy, but then Mario sunshine released where Mario was jumping 24/7 with something undoubtedly heavier than Luigi's vacuum. I figured it was because Mario was just stronger then, but... Luigi is consistently shown to jump higher and run faster but be less precise when stopping and turning.
I’ll bet the reason they didn’t make Luigi jump was cuz if they did, they’d have to make the ghosts able to keeping up with him, which I bet would’ve made development take too long to be ready for launch.
I played and finished this game in my teen years but for some wild reason I cannot remember half of the stuff listed happening in it. I remember playing through the first boss with the baby ghost but surprisingly nothing after that, up until the end of the game with fighting King Boo/Bowser. Now I'm wondering if I really played through the full game at all or if I abandoned it after that baby boss bc it was too hard for me😭
Ikr, I played it less than a year ago and remember almost nothing about it. Almost as if the ghosts don't want us to remember what happened. Edit to clarify: I played it as a kid as well, my playthrough a year ago was my 4th playthrough in total.
@@elarianasky that sucks, maybe the switch online thing will add luigi's mansion to the lineup soon, assuming you have both a switch and online premium. I'm lucky enough to still have a working gamecube and wii, though i cant play it now because i'm living in a college dorm and the gamecube is at my parents' house still.
@@Cheeyze unfortunately i don't _atm_ but i hope to get nso soon. last time i had it was two years ago and it was thru a code my friend was kind enough to gift me. lasted me a whole year, totally worth it. gonna see if i can't find another code like that, or just buy it outright down the line

I always saw luigis mansion as Super Luige Resident Evil. It feels very the same. you explore and unlock things and do puzzles. just its ghosts instead of mutated zombies.

This game is such a classic. Played it on my GameCube through my childhood and felt the same way
Great video! My only complaint is I now feel obligated to say “that’s when Luigi gets ‘em” every time I beat a portrait ghost
And that’s when Luigi gets ‘em.
And that’s when Luigi gets ‘em.

4:15 I also love the fact it’s double points for Nintendo since Luigi’s specially is known for his unique jumps haha.
Through the whole game I was scared that Luigi was gonna get me.

I've played through this game a dozen times, and never knew about the twins' boxes shaking if you pass the vacuum over them.
I certainly love Moving and Sucking in Different Directions!
