We're supscribed to you channel really enjoyed your Peru videos. So imagine our delight when you came out this this new video... ... because, just today, we've been disucssion whether to take a 3-day detour from our Pervian trip to add Medellin (specifically Guatapé) to our trip in May, 2024. We live in the USA; and we have just over three-weeks scheduled in Peru. In your opinion, is it worth it to fly to Medellin for three days to expereince this area?
Thank you! 😊 we would say Guatape and Medellin and definitely worth the detour if you can spare the time. 3 weeks in Peru is a good amount of time to see everything! You would probably want at least 2 full days in Medellin though (1 to do the best bits of Medellin and one for a trip to Guatape, or you could overnight in Guatape and spend 2 days there if you’re not too fussed about Medellin). Either way you might be looking at 4 days total to make the best of your time there once you take into account travel days as well. Hope that helps 😊

Funny how the algorithm brought me here (Bogotano here), but once I've seen a number of travelers it seems unanimous: None expected Bogotá to be that much fun. I do get we may not have a beach like Cali or the many festivals Medellin has all year round... but the sheer size and cosmopolitan nature of the capital seems to charm everyone. As an old tourist ad said: Come visit, the only risk is wanting to stay. Glad you had a good time here. Edit: If you ever come back and want to see THE El Dorado... you want to visit Guatavita (just an hour ourside Bogotá) Edit2: No one seems able to pronounce La candelaria correctly lol

Bogota is nice, very pleasent weather and the old architecture of the kind that you will not see in cartagena. Some of it. Also whats good and surprising about bogota is that compared to cartagena its very quiet. In fact it doesnt even feel like an 8 million city as a lot of the streets are empty and peaceful. Medellin doesnt have an old town. I dont know what happened. Colombia was not bombed in the war. So perhaps the goverment people took the buildings down to build modern ones. Its not attractive. Probably once used to be a beautiful city but not anymore. The reason to go to medellin would be festivals like you say and easy access to nature as there is the avri park there for walking/hiking
@@dreamthedream8929 "pleasant weather" and "Bogotá" are not two words I'm used to see together 😂 as our weather has multiple personality disorder; one hour you're burning under the sun and the next you're under heavy rain. And yeah, the historical center's streets are rather empty, but we do have regular metropolis issues, especially if you go towards the center of the city, then again it's all part of the experience; I've heard of tourist that stayed saying after 2 years and they felt they hadn't scratched the surface of what Bogotá has to offer. As for Medellin it does have a lot of history behind it, it's all on Wikipedia too, so a quick read might give you some clues (also Cali's history is one for the ages).
@@DungeonBricks even if you burn under the sun it's still gonna be refreshing, nothing like this in cartagena. Bogota weather is simply refreshing. Never 30 degrees. Around 20 during the day and 10 at night. Perfect temperature for nice walks outside. Of course if it's not raining.
I’m planning on going to Colombia with my husband and teenage kids this year. It’s going to be a short trip; just a little over a week. We will spend a few days in Barranquilla because I have family there and it’s a lovely city as well. For the rest of the trip I can’t decide between Bogota or Medellin and its surrounding areas (Guatapé, Salento, the Cocora Valley). I’ve been to Bogotá in the past but the last time was ages ago. I’ve never been to Medellin and it seems like Medellín has better weather than Bogotá. What would you suggest?
If you have to choose one then we would pick Medellin for sure. The city has plenty to do plus Guatape is an easy day trip and Salento is easier to get to from Medellin if you have the time 😊 enjoy your trip! Sounds like we need to go back and visit Barranquilla too!
Its a great video about my City, but i have to talked something, The mine of salt, is not in Bogota, is in a town near Bogota, thats names Zipaquira and in car is i hour and a half, near our metropolis, in my point of view, the botanic garden of Bogota is the best of latinamerica, you should go to in other case, to the north is the most beautiful part of the city, Zone T,93 park, Chico Park are beautiful, Europe arquitecture, english houses, and incredible gastronomy.
We were there in August and would still wear our light puffy jackets sometimes and jumpers most of the time. It’s high altitude so it doesn’t get super warm maybe just in the middle of the day.
Straight up very refreshing to hear someone pronouncing the name of the country correctly, then hearing "ColUmbia" at 0:52, was disappointing. I'm guessing someone set you straight after you got there.
Sorry 🫣 we always try our best with pronunciations but it’s not easy and sometimes the wrong one just comes out in the moment and then it’s not possible to change it later!
Both good options. Bogota has Chapinero and Usaquen which are both really nice neighbourhoods to settle in. El Poblado in Medellin is great too. We probably slightly preferred Medellin to Bogota in terms of what there is to do there but we didn’t stay long enough in either city to really comment on what it’s like to live there.
If you follow the usual safety precautions (don’t walk around alone at night, stick to the main touristy areas, don’t flash all your valuables all the time etc.) then yes you should have no problems 😊 we never felt unsafe during our time in Bogota but that’s not to say things can’t happen like they can anywhere in the world. We hope you go…Colombia is an amazing country 👍

He asked my wife and I to stand in a certain spot, took our camera phone, laid down on his back against a street curb, and took our photo. In the background and above our heads was this wonderful old cathedral church. We looked like king and queen. He knew it all.

@@KittiandJon maybe you haven’t been keeping up with the nonsense especially in Medellin and to a lesser extent Cartagena. Crime stats fluctuate decades ago a thousand people killed a day now it’s only 500 still doesn’t put anyone at ease. But the real issue folks are seeing with Colombia is the indifference by police and victim blaming by the locals there are no safety improvements unless you mean more cameras? Content creators have been selling Colombia like it’s utopia like the tourism board have you on payroll but folks are finding out there are better places to spend their money where they are wanted Colombia ain’t it !!

Safety improvements? Maybe no more Escobar but crime is no joke there !!
Of course that’s true and you still have to be careful and use common sense when visiting. But it is better than it was a few decades ago.
