      I think this boat would get stuck in the everglades if it went over a huge patch of algae. Just not enough power. Still fun to drive and to say you built your own boat. Also very portable!

    great boat, but the whole point of an airboat is so there are no low hanging rudders to get caught on stuff when you run something over. keep up the great work man you are great motivation for me!

    • @jefftuckercfii
      @jefftuckercfii 5 років тому +1

      Yup, airboats are steered with multiple rudders mounted behind the propellers. With the flat bottoms they can even cross short stretches of swampland that are slightly above water level, as long as their are no obstructions that can rip out the bottom.

    The hull design seems to be a limiting factor. I'm no expert, but a slightly bigger and flatter hull would make it more efficient, IMO. Also, if the motors were made to pivot, you wouldn't need a rudder hanging below the bottom of the hull. Or have rudders behind the props like a standard airboat. I like the build, though. I spend too much time agonizing over measuring and fitting when I build stuff; this guy seems to do a lot just eyeballing things.

    Nice work! However, the whole idea of an airboat is to go in very shallow water with weeds. Your rudder prevents that.
    The propellers could be wired to run only the outside on one side only to steer. OR, wire in the ability to reverse one side or the other while staying in forward on the opposite side.
    Lose the rudder! Manage the airflow to steer the boat.

    @Creative Channel you do not need a rudder system, because you have 4 banks of 2 controlled fans per switch, all that you need to do is, turn on the fans on the side opposite of the direction in which you want to go (the fans will push your boat in that direction you want) and turn off the fans on the other side, and now lets just say that you want to go on an angle, you would turn on 3 sets of fans (2) on the opposite side in which you want to head to, and (1) set of fans on the outside for resistance.

      Apparently those are 150 watt motors which at 12 volts would draw 12.5 amps each. 8 motors will draw 100 amps. That battery looks to be about a 50 Ah size so it would run for 30 minutes if you were willing to destroy it by completely discharging it. At a more healthy 50% discharge level, it should run for 15 minutes at full power.
