I can't believe so few UA-camr's were early backers... I was... I saw this when it was released to early... Loved those credits. Yes it was a great movie and every Trek fan should see it. In the USA anyway there was a screen that said the Blu-Ray, DVD, and Online Streaming would be available August 6, 2019.
Glad to see this initial reaction! I really liked the remastered space shots, there seem to be a lot of focus on the script writing process and a lot of the things they said they omitted during the credits, like trials and tribulations, I wish I'd been covered. I'm sure we'll be on the Blu-ray! It didn't quite seem like 20 minutes of remastered footage, but what I saw was amazing! The station looming over you two stories tall on a movie screen where you truly can get a sense of it's size and detail was really great!
Watching all those legends put together season 8 episode 1 was awesome and unexpected, including matching animation. Also looking forward to the bluray release which, according to Ira in the documentary, should include a special focus on several of the best episodes like Duet, Trials and Tribble-ations, and In The Pale Moonlight which they had to cut.
I really enjoyed it. I backed it when it was first announced, then more or less forgot about it, so I was pleasantly surprised when I got to watch it. Glad you had fun with it, too.
Saw it last night as well! Fantastic piece of work and to hear about the journey of the entire process after the credits rolled was also quite a nice treat. Highly recommend seeing the documentary!
I am so pleased to hear that you liked What We Left Behind. I loved it too! The showing I attended also had the roundtable at the end. Only two people left during the end credits and missed the end; their loss. I can't wait to buy the DVD. Unlike the sold out showing you attended, mine was only about 10% full, if that. I didn't mind that though; It felt like I was at a private screening.
I was an early backer and I loved this doc! I must say that the “8th season” ideas were pretty cool as well. If they’d make this in animation, I’d pay money to see it! No spoilers, but the things they discussed in the writers room were very believable and made perfect sense.
Fuck, I forgot that was last night edit - did manage to see it the following night, only had to drive an hour. Absolutely astonishing that the made 25 year old footage look that awesome on the big screen. Learned so much about the making of the show that I never knew. I actually threw $500 at this doc, so it would have sucked if I never got to see it on the big screen.
Prior to the Doc....they showed an ad stating the film WILL be available for sale on Blu-ray and DVD. I think the release date is August 6th. It will either be in the stores or available for sale online through Shout Factory TV.
I only found out about this the night before and decided to go see it on the spur of the moment. I think I would have donated if I had been aware of it. I have to say though, it was great to see Sacrifice of Angels battle footage on the big screen and in HD!
I’m glad to hear your theatre was sold out! I live in the middle of nowhere Michigan and only seven people came to the showing in my town. They definitely deserve every ticket that was sold. I’ve never been so satisfied and smiling walking out of the theater-totally made up for got and endgame
I was crying like a baby after the first 20 minutes. I was missing any reports on this for weeks! I tried to reach out to my fav trek youtubers. But I think they rather bitch about trek instead of be vocal about this masterpiece documentary. I need #DS9season8 really bad right now
this documentary is it only for the US and Canada? i am from europe...can we expect it here sometime soon....i just saw the trailer and it brought tear to me eye....
I went to see it last night as well and I loved it so much!! What blew me away was how well they remastered the ship battles during the retaking of DS9 It was incredible!!! Why can’t they make STD like this I loved loved loved this movie....and why did I never think gerek was gay? And trying to hook up with Jillian?!? That’s crazy
Of course it will be available for retail after backers have received their copy. It is being made by the same production company that released For the love of Spock.
If CBS all access wants to be super successful, they should HD remaster DS9 and Voyager and make them exclusive to it. I am really sad the Documentary isn't playing anywhere near me.
I backed it on the Indiegogo platform at the Blu Ray and DVD level ($41 inc shipping) which included an early streaming link. I watched it last week via my backer's link on a loop for days. It just felt as if you want more and more new stuff. Waiting for my Blu Ray/DVD which I am told has a special backers' artwork different from the retail edition and hoping for more special features in the Blu Ray. For your information here is the ling to the Indiegogo page www.indiegogo.com/projects/what-we-left-behind-star-trek-deep-space-nine-doc/x/217657#/
Mecha trying to leach her way into some interviews? When you talked about how the actors read some of the heat mail i immediately had Random in my thoughts. I couldn't imagine being identified as the bad side of Trek Fandom.
Just got home from seeing it, but it was really good. However, my theater really ruined the beginning, it kept turning off and on, and it started like 30 minutes in
I loved it how ever they said George Washington was a terrorist and He was not. He was a reable he did not attack civilians. I understand they where trying to get the character to relate it would have been a ton better to have uses the atomic bomb not G.W.
I just want to know where/when i can watch this online please... (Endgame was just depressing... the first half of the movie had this depressing atmosphere and in the end it just hits you in the face that this was it, no more original core Avengers Team. Then the Spider-man trailer picked me right back up again, something to look forward to.)
Hi my name is Robet Anthony, not the name listed, I bought s new ph. An Ebay gave me a number but it still has other name on it. My comment is D,S,9 always moved me , and star trek has. I lost my dear mom this Feb 3rd. She.would have been 91 Feb 24th. I torn 62 25th, she was.always saportive in my sifi ,. Yrel.intrest. in the early 90s. I worked as a Klingon form 92 to 96 at Paramounts Great America on Santa Clara California, i wish I could have seen thos DS9, cimlnama event ,sounds. Great an.moveing, back in 1987 Sept I ment Gen Roddenberry with Magel his wife, I had lost my dad Agust 8,heart attack
I regret supporting this indegogo, they promised a digital copy of the doc and only gave us a preview we could only watch on our phones. I was really unhappy with the production team after they joined thier distributor, it seemed like they didn't give a shit about thier indigogo supporters anymore. I've learned my lesson, do not support Star Trek projects via crowd funding.
The one thing I hated about it was the political part. They really didnt have to show trump. They basically did the same thing spike lee did for his film but smaller I just personally want politics out of star trek.
Was it still worth seeing or was the political stuff too overwhelming? I'm tempted to buy this documentary for my collection since DS9 is my fave Trek show, but if the SJW content is as bad as it is in modern trek shows I may want to avoid it. I don't like Trump, but I don't need him to be brought up in whats supposed to be a look back at the making of DS9, the same way I don't want to see Klingons reimagined as straw man interpretations of Trump supporters (like they were in STD).
@@KaijuCommander it was just ok not spectacular. I personally was dissapointed coming in thinking this was going to be like the jodorofsky's dune which was a great documentary the animatics in that where sick. I will still buy this though just because im such a fan of DS9.

I saw the documentary in theatres tonight as well... emotional journey... moved me so much... this is my Trek

Hehe, thanks for the mention! Glad you're doing a reaction.
Blu-ray, DVD and digital download Aug. 6, available to anyone
I hope this will be available in Europe sometime.

Good for you, getting to see it so soon.
This was a fantastic documentary. Strongly recommend. Look forward to the DVD with the special features/extras. There's still more to come. :)

Think it will morph into an actual feature film or something? We can hope right?
I'm looking forward to when I can watch the new documentary.
Prior to the Doc....they showed an ad stating the film WILL be available for sale on Blu-ray and DVD. I think the release date is August 6th. It will either be in the stores or available for sale online through Shout Factory TV.
I loved the documentary. HD shots were incredible.

I loved the musical act at the end with Armin, Max, Jeffrey and Andrew!!!!
Wouldnt it be a surprise at the las vegas convention if they announced DS9 remastered was starting development

Loved the doc, would love to see a real season 8
At this point, I wish CBS would let the fandom crowdfund HD remasters for DS9 and Voyager. I honestly think the support would be there.
There is no way to watch it online for early backers anymore. The online link for early backers was only available for about 5 days a month or so ago.
Really good.
When is the DVD to be released? I wanna see this bad.....only heard about the project a few days ago and think I missed out at cinema 😢😢
August 6th according to a scene in USA theaters.

Watched in a small theatre in a small city on the east coast. We were the only ones there! Don't think Cineplex advertised it at all.
It's to bad we couldn't crowd fund a proper season 8.
I wasn't super into DS9, but I really, REALLY want to see where they go with their season 8 ideas. I'm hooked!
Of course it will be available for retail after backers have received their copy. It is being made by the same production company that released For the love of Spock.

Can they remaster animation? If they can I’d like to see the animated series remastered.
