I'm Brazilian. I bring towels, pick my trash and drink until I pass out. But tourists are unbelievably prudish and stick out like Usain Bolt in Beijing.
I bring my towel so I can wrap it around my butt as I gaze out over the calm serene ocean as last night's foul dinner spews forth from my anus like a high pressure hose.
readsomebooks666 Actually we spot Americans in Britain because they are usually really obnoxious and show no respect or decentcy towards everyone else around them.

I live in Rio and I guarantee TYT is wrong about us leaving trash on the beaches. The people who do that ARE the tourists, mostly (brazilian) country people who are not that used to beaches. In fact, beach trash is the only thing about tourists that irritates us. Other than that, you're welcome - the shrimp-like pink skin and bizarrely large swimsuits are always funny.
yeah so? alot of channels do that.......it's not that they pay to directly put it on trending, they pay to get their videos shown in the recommended section and related videos section. it also shows up first when you search for video relating to their videos. so this causes the video to trend

When I was in Europe I told everyone I was from Oklahoma. Everyone was super, taking their picture with me, asking about teepee's and buffalo. I laughed from London to Paris, loving every minute
It makes more sense to be out in the water if you want a darker tan rather than sitting in chairs in direct sunlight. the water bounces sun rays back off it's surface and if you are in the middle of that you get more tan.
Since i was a kid, everytime i see a tourist wearing shoes on the beach me and my friends call them Shoobies lol if u were a 90's kid youd know where its from
The trash part isn't a rule in any form. A lot of people here is responsible enough to not leave trash behind as they leave the beach (usually taking it to a nearby trashcan). But there is that subset of people that just doesn’t care. That last one I don’t even get. I never go to the beach to stay on my feet (and neither people that go with me). I would even add that I usually stay in the ocean (I'm not a fan of heat and sand myself, so I’m not a big beach fan in general), but people that I know never just stay there on their feet unless they are practicing some sport.
Not all. The Baia da Guanabara is definitely toxic bcs rubbish and primary sewerage are dumped in it. Much public water in Rio's Zona Norte is condemned. Before you talk about toxic let's talk about places like Flint Mich.
"It's a characteristic of the beach to stay on your feet talking … " I never saw a people that is so gregarious and happy to meet and talk with you !… That you not speaking the same language (I don't speak a single word of Portuguese) is the least of their concern : they get to you and start a conversation and finally we get to something and we all spend a wonderful 30 min or hour !… And they remind you the day after when you meet them again !… Such a warm people… Despite all their troubles and some dangerous situations one may encounter in the big cities, to me the Brazilian are among the most beautiful people in the world. I love them and I can't wait going back to meet them again.
Mattteus I was born and raised in Brazil. I am a Brazilian but of course there are people that thinks I am not Brazilian enough. Overall, people treat as if I am one of their own and I am!
Tourists always bring tons of stuff to the beach and a bag or purse, where Cariocas only come with havaianas (sandals), a t-shirt and optional: a thin towel. That's it!

First of all, most of Brazil is white. Perhaps not "as white" as americans, but still white, and when you go to the south you get "european white" people. Secondly, he is right, in Brazil "gringo" is often not meant to be offensive, it`s just a slang for foreigner. At last, you are right, dictionary companies should start calling Brazilians to write these stuff up, things vary from country to country and you cannot say a word means the same in a whole continent, and different languages (Spanish and Portuguese).
Why do so many people dislike every TYT video regardless of its content? Do you not realize that it doesn't hurt them, and it makes you look incredibly whiny and pathetic?

It's fine talking about cultural differences, but why do the hosts seem to criticize the Brazilians observations of tourists? Like how they felt the need to defend the decision to face the ocean at all times.
KEEP CALM and PLAY SOCCER IN YOUR PAJAMAS I'll make one, with as much basis in reality as the lists you tend to see: 5: Never stand on one leg! It is a traditional way of telling Tunisians to fuck right off. 4: Never bring roses to a woman when she's standing in an archway. This means bad luck and will make her very unhappy. Especially white roses, which is a symbol of death in their culture. 3: When you finish a meal, always burp over your left shoulder. If you burp over your right shoulder, you are being very rude. 2: Boiled camel's eye is a delicacy that everyone enjoys in Tunisia. Everyone. 1: If you take the train in Tunisia, always offer the person sitting next to you your handkerchief. If you do not have a handkerchief, you must appease your fellow traveler by citing Surah Al-Baqarah 2:195 - which goes: _"And spend in the way of Allah and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction [by refraining]. And do good; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good."_

As an American living in Brazil, this is hilariously true. I thought it was so weird seeing people sitting facing away from the ocean, and when I pulled out my bathing suit, my Brazilian friend asked me if that was what I was wearing to the bar. When I told her that I was wearing it to the beach, she just stared at me confused for like 5 minutes.
I'm Australian and every time I go to the beach overseas I find it so weird that no body wants to swim. Most places I go they just want to sunbathe and they don't go into the ocean at all. In Australia most people go to swim and catch waves
As a Carioca I can tell you that people stand in the beach to socialize, when they are not like sunflowers following the Sun on their beach loungers. As you may know, we are much more sociable than the European/US folks.
I love it when People dont know I can understand them. The faces are always priceless when I chime in. It hasnt happened to me, but my Sister has the tendency to talk about People without stopping to think if they could understand some things.
I hung out on a small beach in Salvador, Brazil. You want to talk about physical activity? They were doing cartwheels and landing with their feet in the water, Aparently this beach functioned as a gym and a training school for Capoera. But if you wanted to just swim and lay around, that was cool, too.
When I went to Japan I stuck out like a sore thumb. Not only was I a head taller than just about everybody, my clothing looked strange and drab compared to the fashion-forward clothing of the people I was with. I looked like a bum in my t-shirts and cargo pants. Also, there are so many wonderful things to climb in Japan but nobody does it. People really looked at me funny when I scaled the wall at Tokyo University. OK, maybe that last one is because I'm a weirdo and not because I'm a foreigner....
Tourist: 1. Stand in middle of the sidewalk in front of Macy's on 34th street talking and checking out their map. 2. Standing in the middle of the bus and people can move around them. 3. Walking slowly sightseeing when you are trying to get to work in the morning or go home in the evening. 4. Get on the bus without a metro card or change (non tourist do the same thing.)
It's nice to know that at least my fellow Americans clean up after themselves while they're there. I currently in SA where people don't even take a sec to throw trash directly on the ground. When the wind picks up, the trash gets whipped up into the air. It's super depressing.
there are little locks u can buy for bags that have zippers. just thread the the lock through the holes in your bags two zippers to keep them from being pulled apart, thus the bag wont open. a serious hassle but worth it sometimes. it doesnt offer much protection from theft but i look at it this way, if someone wants to steal my stuff, im going to make it really hard for them.
I like to stick out like a sore thumb. My favorite vacation outfit is an American flag Hawaiian shirt, cargo shorts, sandals, and a camera around my neck. I also like to say loud things to my girlfriend like "gee, y'all foreigners eat crazy food and not enough sweet tea"
About standing up on the beach, think 'party'. Going to the beach in Rio is pretty much like going to a party: You talk to people, you mingle, you see and are seen.
In the early 90's, it was common for Rio natives of all classes to walk to, from, and along the beaches with nothing but brief, tight swim suits and thongs. No jewelry, watches, or wallets. And it was said, "Petty theft is the tax imposed on those who gratuously flaunt their wealth."
I've been to Rio beaches a few times, and they do it right (except for the trash part): streamlined bathing suits (not banana hammocks), no bulky towels, no cameras or cell phones...just bring a few bucks, and you can buy all your drinks and snacks from the vendors plying the sand. Ipanema is the best!
In 1907, in Boston , an Australian swimmer was arrested for indecent exposure because her swimsuit showed arms, legs and the neck, the western culture have changed a lot i think the only people that kept their culture and values are Muslims. why this change in habits ?? ( i'm just curious about it )
I’m Brazilian and I pick up my trash and so does everyone I know. I wear speedos, I have my beach chair or sarong facing the ocean, I sit or lay down to talk to people, but I also stand up and talk if I want to have a more even suntan. Suntanning is a big thing for us so yes it’s natural to try and catch direct rays as much as you can. After all the ocean will always be there and you’ll be able to see it. I do drink at the beach, not until I pass out but drinking is part of the fun and here you can drink in public anywhere. I do think though that what reveals a tourist the most is the size of the swimwear they use. Shorts and big bikinis instead of trunks and smaller bikinis (which by the way are not thongs just smaller bikinis). Also farmer’s tan showing on necks, arms, and thighs. That’s the most obvious thing for us I believe.
ha! I will fit right in. My fam is from EL Salvador and live close to the beach. Yeah, we don't really lay around watching the beach that often and we often go to the beach to do some type physical activity.
We pick up our trash because we aren't trashy and litter. If we want to just stand and talk, we won't travel to the beach just to talk. We look at the ocean because it's beautiful and we all don't live by the ocean 24/7. We bring towels because it's important to dry up and avoid hypothermia.
I was told when I traveled that it was CRUCIAL to blend in , especially when going to super touristy places, because if you don't you become a target for criminals. It's super easy to manipulate people who don't know their surroundings, right?
A lot of us do love to dance and play beach football/volleyball and we do enjoy living in the moment (no cameras) and we do LOVE to show off our bodies. Picking up trash? that's a new one for me. I always pick up after myself everywhere I go. I can see why she would say that though, the most famous beaches in Brazil have trash picker uppers.
Didn't realize Brazilians were the authority on beaches. This gringo will continue to sit, face the sea, and get absolutely obliterated. And why would anyone want to "fit in" with Rio locals?
There have been times when I hear someone talking in another language, and I'm like I hope you're not talking about me. sometimes they apologize , sometimes we laugh and talk some more. never heard anything negative. I understand that people want to keep their conversations quiet, and I'm for it.
Spent 2 weeks in Rio, Jan of '86. Natives were small, beautifully tanned, dark hair. I was 5' 7", lots of freckles. My friend, 5' 10", bleached blonde. Yes, easy to spot tourists
In San Francisco, the thing tourists do that I hate is when they bring their cars to a full stop in the middle of the new span of the Bay Bridge (average speed - 70 mph) to take a photo. Or they wait until the last possible second to realize they're in a FasTrak lane at the toll plaza, and they don't have one. ;^D
It is soooo true. Being an East Oriental Asian myself, I have to constantly remind myself try not to take a picture in public, especially in restaurant, so the people around won't say or think what we all know ;) Well, I guess this is my way of life, and to my dream GoodyHandy
I live in an area that lives off tourism. When I was in high school and college, I used to have fun with friends on weekends going to the touristy locales, that most locals avoid, and I would fuck with tourists in all sorts of ways. One of my favorites still was to run up to clearly distracted couples, act surprised and excited and "happily" exclaim "Oh My GOD!! It's a tourist, like a REAL LIVE TOURIST!! **Look over at friend holding the camera** I mean, I've seen them in the jars and at the zoos, but this is so exciting! My first time seeing a real tourist, out of the cage, in person!!! Oh My GOD OH MY GOD!! Can I take a picture with you?? My friends will never believe this!!" And the whole time, they usually looked terrified like they thought we really had Tourist Zoos.. aahhh, good times.. lol
Stand and talk? whoever said that is wrong in brazil is not representing the country at all, there is no such social rule. And yes, the beach is a place where alot of people practice sports.
Ironic that they are ok with Americans not leaving their Americanism but want Hindus, Jews, Muslims & Blacks to forget their culture and become more 'American' or 'European' even when on a visit.
Isn't this why you buy disposable waterproof cameras? That's still a thing right? That way if you lose it, who cares? Or am I too old? XD That and I'd be there with a sun umbrella XD I'm too damn white for the sun. XD I turn into a lobster. XD
I'm Brazilian. I bring towels, pick my trash and drink until I pass out. But tourists are unbelievably prudish and stick out like Usain Bolt in Beijing.

Both but we usually tend to be more active in the beach, like playing sports!

Brown people don't go to the beach to lay out and tan.
how does that relate to this video
They were asking why people would stand around on the beach and not lay down and soak up the sun.
Not all brazilians are brown.
Not all Latinos are indigenous especially in Brazil and other parts of South America
all native Brazilians are brown.

Here in Brazil we also go to the beach to play football and volleyball . There is nothing better than, after each game, dive into the sea.
for Rio, it's a way of life, for tourist it's a novelty.
Tourist:
Cenk...physically active? Ha ha ha ha ha ha! :D Active how, at the cheeseburger eating competition? LOL!!
Stairs in Taiwan where people take selfies? Would that be Shuqi Street in Jiufen?
I've been to Rio beaches a few times, and they do it right (except for the trash part): streamlined bathing suits (not banana hammocks), no bulky towels, no cameras or cell phones...just bring a few bucks, and you can buy all your drinks and snacks from the vendors plying the sand. Ipanema is the best!
I never wanna stand out when I go on vacation because sometimes you can become a target, are they not aware of this?
A lot of this is just comparing people who might see a beach on periodic vacations, with those who live at/near a beach year round.
When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was an oasis commercial
The MAIN difference is Brazil is waaay more free than America!
In 1907, in Boston , an Australian swimmer was arrested for indecent exposure because her swimsuit showed arms, legs and the neck, the western culture have changed a lot i think the only people that kept their culture and values are Muslims. why this change in habits ?? ( i'm just curious about it )
"Stand and talk at the beach". We go to the beach to be social and talk to people as well as tanning. ;-)
Can someone tell me why this video has almost a 2:1 like to dislike ratio
Yeah, we don't really lay around watching the beach that often and we often go to the beach to do some type physical activity.
the beach? with the bright sun, the itchy sand, sneeze-inducing breeze and seagulls stealing your food? no thank you. ill stay indoors watching anime.
We pick up our trash because we aren't trashy and litter. If we want to just stand and talk, we won't travel to the beach just to talk. We look at the ocean because it's beautiful and we all don't live by the ocean 24/7. We bring towels because it's important to dry up and avoid hypothermia.
When I lived in a certain country in Europe, you could always tell which people were the tourists.
if Brazilians don't drink then why do they have such a hard time staying in their fuckin' lane in the relay?
I would stick out like a pale reflective maggot, my ass hasn't seen sun in years.
Your not protecting your phone or camera from staying with it, your protecting from getting stolen.
Tourists would drink because they’re on vacation
Beach in Rio is to play beach volleyball, soccer volleyball, run or swim. Cariocas are active by nature and the reason they are fit.
As a Canadian it's funny to hear there's a place that American tourists leave less garbage than the locals, lol
A nice run on the beach is always great though. Especially in the morning when it's not filled with tourists
Or they wait until the last possible second to realize they're in a FasTrak lane at the toll plaza, and they don't have one. ;^D
my knowledge about armenian culture is limited to what ive seen in gangster films
Lemme tell you, it's not just Brazilian beaches. If you're a local, it's really easy to tell who's a tourist.
It is soooo true. Being an East Oriental Asian myself, I have to constantly remind myself try not to take a picture in public, especially in restaurant, so the people around won't say or think what we all know ;)
Well, I guess this is my way of life, and to my dream GoodyHandy
XD
Y'all don't get it. Beaches in Brazil are like downtown centers, not an event, like it usually is in the U.S.
I'm Brazilian and I always pick up my trash.
I always sit facing the ocean.
And yes, towels at the beach are unnecessary.
