These are majorly underrated rifles. I reload so that helps a lot with the ammo issue. My Type 38 has shot one of the best groups I've ever shot with a surplus rifle, that really surprised me. It's beat to hell but the bore is great. My Type 99 is in amazing shape.
I just got a same rifle as yours made by TK, series 35, almost same condition, with nice furniture and prestige bore but no mum, and it’s number actually matches production number that you will find out after ya take rifles apart. The reason why they all in good shape is because they are too long for combat groups but they still need to issue to soldiers, so they were equipped by the guard division, which only stay in Tokyo to protect emperor Hirohito, they didn’t suffer any brutal battles and most of them directly brought home by the GI.
I have enjoyed shooting my Arisaka rifles that I have . I am getting low on ammo for both 6.5 and 7.7 . I have the Type 30 long rifle , a Type 38 long rifle & carbine , the Type 44 , the Type 99 in long & short rifles , plus a “ last ditch “
I have had a very recent fascination with the type 38 and type 99 (mainly type 99) I am hope that the gun show next month will have one in good condition and in its original stock. For me these rifles have an elegance to them just like the samurai sword. I can’t put my finger on it but they do.
I really want to know if there is a single documented case of a Japanese soldier downing an aircraft with with one of these things. He would have been an absolute madlad! For real though, great rifles. My grandfather brought back two from WWII, I believe both were Nagoyas. Because they were trophies likely disassembled on transit back to the US they lack any of the cool attachments but are great Mauser clones. Wish I didn’t have to sell an organ every time I buy a box of ammo though…
I could hear that dust cover all the way in Korea.
Anything is possible with the power of anime on your side!
OMG that is amazing it doesn't even matter there is no mum you have a long rifle talk about a scarce piece very beautiful

My Dude, you need a reloading press. Shorten some 30.06 brass and pick up a box of .303 bullets. You could save your vocal cords.
